This weekend I've been in Valby. Way up in Northern Sealand, out in a wood, on weekend-camp with my church. Amazing weekend!
Since I happen to be a pretty independent person, I really like making my own choices when to arrive and leave, even though I don't have a car. I prefer not to have anyone pick me up or driving me to the nearest stations that are located 4 and 6 kilometers away, respectively. So usually my bike rides the train with me, and I go the 4 kilometers from the station on my bike.
When I was going home today, and the weather was amazing, I faced a dilemma. I could bike to the station and get home fast, or I could bike the 20 kilometers to Hillerød and enjoy the forest and nature.
It wasn't really that hard, since I've been longing for the past few years to spend a day or two going on bike through Gribskov, but just never got around to doing it..... Now was my chance!
I grew up right next to Gribskov, and I must admit that ever since I've had a hard time finding another forest just remotely similar to the greatness of this forest. Gribskov is JUST RIGHT! Huge enough to let you get lost. So big that you can't hear any traffic (apart from the train's horn when it runs through the forest). Still airy and light. Not at all like Robin Hood's Sherwood forest, but filled with beech, birch and fir trees.
My wonderful "citymaps2go" had an excellent overview of all the forest roads and paths, although some of them were seriously small out in the real life...... I didn't loose my way, but rode on my bike up and down the hills in the wonderful weather. Every time I met some people, I seemed to be going the wrong way and had to turn around and go back after 200 meters. A bit embarrassing!
I also passed Gribsø (the lake). Rode around half of it. Some time I ought to take a closer look at it?
The trip also took me to pass the house where I grew up. Way out in the middle of nowhere. It was very strange, how tiny the road looked!
It was a wonderful trip, and I'm really happy I chose the long bike ride. I have to do it again!
