When you are traveling. When the niece's sweater is done (finally!). When there is a nephew with a birthday in a short while (this years last birthday of a nephew, by the way....) What do you knit then?
I don't really have to say wollmeise and socks, do I?
This time it's a very free, and very nice pattern that happened to be on my phone. Can't wait to show you the finished socks that I actually like a lot.
Still a foot to go, but I think they will be done by Saturday night......

Vasket og klar / Washed and ready

As you all know, I really feel this sweater took a lot of work. That is why you'll see in another time in this post. In the newly washed, pretty state - ready to send off to my niece.
The pattern is called "Stilhed" (silence) from the book by Annette Danielsen, Strik en stund. (Knit a moment)
Apart from the fact that I didn't really read the pattern and had to redo the yoke, it was a well-written pattern (her patterns are mostly like that), and I followed it completely.
It is made with Wollmeise lace-yarn, and took around 250 grams. For the pattern, I used Drops alpaca, around 20 grams. The color is very dark blue (like ink) and is a guinea pig. My gauge was way off, so it's a bit smaller than size small. I really do hope it fits!
All in all, I'm very satisfied with it. I hope, I can get a picture of niece in sweater for the blog, but we'll see.......
By the way - this is the third model I knit from "Strik en stund". It must be a record for a single book of knitting patterns! (Except a sock pattern book)

Be aware

The last Monday of October will have a breast cancer pattern too, of course.
This hat leaves no doubt about the meaning has something to do with pink and ribbons!
I bet it's nice and warm as well......

Mit hjem er mit slot / My home is my castle

Just as much as I wanted the vacation to go on and on, just as lovely is it to return home. Unpacking all the goodies and just relax.
You need to see these very smart shawl-"needles" I bought in La Casita. I saw them in Latvia, but they were not for sale. They guarantee nothing gets loose or falls off! (They weren't very expensive either.)
My plane landed at 6 a.m. this morning, so right now I just want to sleep. Guess it will be very easy after a glass of red wine tonight!

While Dorina and I visited Brooklyn General Store, we met Owen who is 4 years old. Apparently, he was a bit bored in the shop, and had a story or two to share. While we talked, it seems like Dorina took a picture.
I love this photo! Don't you think the photo in itself has a good story? Oh well. And I love kids telling stories about this and that. And making faces appropriate for this specific story!

På gensyn / See you later

In just a few hours I'll be going to the airport. Don't want to go! It was a wonderful vacation. (But that's how I feel after every vacation. Fortunately.)
Yesterday was a bit different. My phone suddenly made up its mind that it didn't want to receive text messages from Dorina. So instead of meeting her, she was waiting for me and I for her, until I finally called her.
While I was waiting, I went for a walk around the neighborhood and visited the "High Line Park" where I met the little guy on the picture. He was running around, without caring about all the pedestrians. You could really worry about a little, irresponsible mouse alone in New York......

The park was made on an old railway track and is a really nice place.

Since I was still waiting, I decided to walk past Purl Soho. On my way there, I passed this house, where "Friends" was supposed to take place. (And a bunch of tourists taking pictures.....)'
Hvad siger I til det her neonpink garn? Lækker, blød uld.....

In Purl Soho they have so many nice things. And the prices are high! Mostly, I looked. What do you think of this very pink yarn? Nice, soft wool......
Dejligt sted!

Finally Dorina and I found each other and went to Brooklyn General Store. The window display was hens and chicken, which was perfect with my new picture bought on the High Line!
The shop was as nice and cozy as ever. I got 20% off. Lovely place!
Bagefter gik vi over i "La Casita".

Afterwards we walked to "La Casita". Outside was this pretty bench! It was such a nice place too. I've been there once before, but it was Dorina's first time to visit.

In the window was a knitted version of their street. We should do something like that with Nyhavn in Copenhagen! It was really well done.
We looked and bought a little. Afterwards we had redwine and knitted a bit. The yarn-shop/bar combo is a total winner!
Jeg elsker New York......

On the way home I saw another Tardis! With lights and all! The landing had been somewhat sudden, it seems......
Now I'm going home. Not much to say than I really have to come back some time! I love New York...

Lady Liberty & ballet

Smukt!

This blog post will have a lot of pictures..... Don't say I didn't warn you! Yesterday I went to visit the Statue of Liberty. The trip began with this beautiful walk along the Hudson River with this view of the new tower at World Trade Center. Beautiful!

This time I had a ticket for the crown, but of course I started with the museum and the base. The museum was quickly done (last time I was there, I read EVERYTHING!) but I did get this picture of me and the lady...... (Weeping angel?)
We were good at staring, both of us!

You take a boat there, which is a nice little trip. On the boat and on the island you can really enjoy the view of the New York skyline. Amazing!

Threehundredfiftyseven steps above the ground things looked like this. The view was great! She is standing there, looking away from the city, so this time it wasn't the skyline as a view......

Here is her right arm with the torch. At some point it has been possible to go all the way into the torch, but must have been a very narrow trip!
Her ser i indersiden af hendes hovede. Og frisuren, der altid sidder perfekt.

This is the inside of her head. And the hair-do which is always perfect!

This is what the staircase for the crown looks like. It is actually a double staircase. One going up and one going down. It was very narrow, and there was just one way. Up. The lighting is not very good all the way. But with all this said, it didn't really take long to get there.
Today my legs really hurt!
Vildt!

Last night Dorina invited me for a ballet in Lincoln center. The San Francisco Ballet Company performed "Cinderella". It was so fantastic!
The costumes and the choreography was amazing the story was so funny. Actually, the Disney version is nothing compared to this. It was an amazing evening!
Oh well - and then there were so many people looking so extremely rich. Which they were.....

På vej videre / Travelling on

Yesterday I saw Christmas tree decorations so horrible that I wouldn't hang them on my own tree. (Now THAT's ugly!) The burger may have been allowed near the bottom of the tree, but the x-box controller? No way!

I also saw a bit more scenic nature from a high view over Troy and Albany. You could see all the way to the neighboring states. It was so pretty, even though we only stayed for a few minutes, since I had a train to catch.

Before the train we had lunch. We ate at the university of Troy. In the cafe next to their music hall. And can you believe it? It's identical to the Opera in Copenhagen! It was designed by engineers to get the best acoustics. Really funny to know where the inspiration for the Danish Opera came from!

The train ride was great. Right next to the river with a beautiful view. I sewed and sewed and sewed. Now I REALLY wanted that sweater done!
Stadig blandt venner. He he)

Guess what. It's finished! It is so pretty and soft and wonderful that I actually stopped hating it..... Dorina's daughter Chanda agreed to be a model so that I could see how it could actually fit a human being.
So now I'm in New York. Still among friends. It is so nice! (And I had some more, innocent kids eating larvae.....)

Yesterday, some amazing things happened with blue. The first picture is not blue at all, though. It is a picture of the best salad, I ever had! Bought in a pizzeria in Troy, called Defazio's. It is the only remnant of "Little Italy", but I'm sure it will survive. The pizzas were amazing, and there was a total of SEVEN crusts to pick! You did have to wait for the food to be freshly prepared, though..... (If you happen to pass Troy, the address is 266 4th Street)

We walk a bit yesterday. First a walk in a little forest on an island, afterwards in Troy. And what do I suddenly see? A TARDIS! It was so cool!
It isn't quite done yet, and I have no idea what they will use it for, but still. A Tardis!
Man hensmelter helt i tårer over fædrelandet.....

In a shop with stuff from all over the world (where I bought some very nice earrings), we suddenly found these Danish Christmas plates for decoration. We almost cried thinking of our home country..... (Or. Well. You get the idea)
But the biggest blue thing yesterday? The sweater for my niece is finally knitted! I just need to sew it together now, and I guess a train-ride to New York City will be helpful for that. This is huge!

Efterårsfarver, larver og Halloween forberedelser / Fall colors, larvae and Halloween preparations

Need I say more?).

Monday had so many things coming, that it was like 2 days...... When the kids were at school and the husband at work, Sara and I went to Lake George to see some leaves. Fall is extremely pretty over here.
We went by boat for 2 hours, up and down the lake while having lunch buffet while a musician played and explained about the views.
The colors were so beautiful to look at, and since it is a very attractive area, there was one mansion after the other close by the lake. Summerhouses, you know.....

Some places, the mountain-side was orange because of these leaves. I think you can see sort of what it looked like. The see is huge, and I guess we only went halfway, although we sailed for an hour each way. Wonderful cruise!
On the way home there was a little time for power-shopping of new jeans from an outlet. Pants for all of next year in 15 minutes!

In a fun store in Saratoga (a horse race town that we passed too), I bought these delicious snacks. The worst part? The kids refused tasting them before I had started......
Even though you could count the legs, they tasted like a single crunch and spices. Not much. I did get all the kids to taste them as well. (They got 1 piece of candy from their mum for each larva......)
Hr. Gru hang (meget passende?) blandt de allermest skræmmende masker i butikken.

Since Halloween is coming up, we went shopping for costumes. It was a fun 30 minutes in a Halloween-shop with everything you could ever wish for. For adults and all sizes of kids. I love these kinds of stores! (and got new earrings)
Mr. Gru was hanging (very fitting?) among the most scary masks in the entire shop.

And here is the new Ninja! Impressive what a bag of costume can hold...... The others had a bit to supplement the costumes they already had.
What we will be doing today, I don't know. We did everything yesterday! But I think it will be a very nice day again.

Søndag i Troy / A Troy Sunday

On Sunday, I finally succeeded in leaving Washington. Once more, it was the gate at the very end of the airport, and the plane was tiny, but I didn't sleep as I had planned if going on Saturday! I knitted. For a change. Apart from the very last 5 minutes when the ride turned so bumpy that it felt like one of those adventure-rides in a theme-park. (You wouldn't knit on one of those!)
We drove by the house for a short visit. After bringing in the Danish candy and all the magazines, and changing clothes, Sara and I went to a concert with Albany symphony-orchestra.

The concert was in Troy's music hall. In front of the hall was this very pretty version of Uncle Sam. He is everywhere in town in different versions, and this one was really nice!
The concert was great. We were on the front row and enjoyed music by Ravel, Schuman and Faurë. And then there was a modern piece (actually a world premiere!) by an American composer. It was modern. We were very happy our hair didn't fall off, for this orchestra could really make some serious noise! But the classical pieces were really good.

Afterwards we were on a wine-bar. There was a special menu with 3 kinds of wine with which we had bread, cheese and sausage. Very delicious and so nice! (And we had a ride home. Very fitting....)

A package had arrived for me before I landed. This is for a very special project. Nice, soft, eco-wool. I'll tell you what it's for later. First I need to finish the sweater for my niece, a shawl, a scarf, a dog-sweater and 2 pairs of socks..... And my dress for Christmas! And the 2 cardigans lying around at home, feeling quite abandoned.

Et helt ærme! / An entire sleeve!

It was a long flight. So long, that I actually made the first sleeve! It's needles size 3 mm, so my fingers were a bit tender at the end.....
My niece is petit, and the sweater will be fitted. Hopefully it will fit her, because it sure looks very small..... But it is turning out so pretty, soft and warm! Now I just need to finish the second sleeve and the rest of the yoke. Maybe it just needed to see a bit of the world in order to finish?

The trip didn't go exactly as expected. We were delayed, so after running here and there and a very long taxi-drive into town to see if I could catch the train, I ended in a very soft bed in a nice hotel. With this view outside. Slept for 8 full hours, had a lovely breakfast, and now I really hope it will work out with the next plane. I have a piano-concert to reach! (And some very excited kids awaiting when I land)

Klar til at rejse / Ready to go

I don't know if you ever noticed. But I really like travelling.....
My vacation has begun. The article draft has been sent for my colleague, the last review written (very late last night) and one side of the yoke is done.
My suitcase was kind of ready already last night - just needed to fill in some clothes!
My bag-pack is filled with yarn, needles, a pattern and a great book, and I'm SO ready for sitting in a plane, having a wonderful time all the way across the Atlantic ocean!
The bird-keeper is ready, and the cages cleaned. I can't wait to meeting my good friends again. And of course you can come along on the side as well......

Stockholm syndrom?

Købt i Ho. Fine farver, og fuldstændigt som 2 dråber vand. Meget tilfredsstillende.

My good friend asked me when I will start vomiting socks? All the time there is a pair in need of knitting. In July, when I knitted nothing but socks, I really hated it. But right now, where I'm knitting them for the sake of "hygge" (and for reading some articles), I actually like it.
If I don't know what to knit, I can always start a pair of socks! They finish quite fast, and they fit in the bag nicely. They can be very simple or extremely complicated just as I wish, and people actually really like getting them.
I may consider if it is actually a kind of Stockholm syndrome? Now that I forced myself making them and then started loving it......
These socks are made from 75 grams of Opal. Bought in Ho. Nice colors, and totally identical. Very satisfying.

Hvad jeg laver / What I do

Fritiden lige nu er fyldt med de her to ting. Eller dårlig samvittighed over de her to ting. I stedet for at stirre.
Tilfredsstillende fremad.

My spare time right now is filled with these 2 things. Or feeling guilty about not doing enough about these 2 things. I think about them. The article and the sweater. If I'm not squinting at one of them, I'm staring angrily at the other, and all the time I feel I need to DO something. Instead of just staring! (Never did any goo anyway, did it?)
I still have 2 days back at work before my vacation starts. That is the biggest carrot for me, since I need the first draft for the article to be done (keep reminding myself. Not the entire article. Just a draft) and the yoke needs to be done, so the sleeves can fly on vacation with me. Great plan, right?
But actually I'm doing progress. Enough progress.
