Fourth of July
Yesterday was the fourth of July, Independence Day. It was my first time in the US on this day, and needed to celebrate this!
So I bought "Stars and Stripes" earrings to make us look perfect. Unfortunately, my niece's friend didn't have ear piercings, so she had to photo-bomb instead of wearing them......
It was a half day-off, and a lot of shops were closed. Those, that were open, closed early. Most people had gone camping. We went to the river and hung out, and then in the evening, we went to see firework. The roads were kind of empty when going there, which was really strange.
The fireworks were in a park. There is nothing to read about it on the internet, but apparently, it is a tradition every year with a rich guy paying for the show.
When we arrived, it looked like this. Made us wonder whether we got it right! But there were a few other families who were waiting for the show, too.
As it was getting dark, it looked like this. Obviously something happening! There were plenty of people, but not totally crowded. I guess it's good there is no official information about this, because otherwise there would have been no empty spots!
It was so nice and cozy. Children running around with light-sticks and sparklers. Families on blankets. Strangely enough, someone brought their dogs. I don't think I met dogs before who liked fireworks, but these dogs were really calm!
The fireworks started at 10 p.m., and it was really spectacular! Giant rockets and plenty of them!
There was kind of a long break so we didn't stay for all of it, but we saw a lot!
It was so great sitting on a blanket, watching fireworks. Too bad, New Year is always in the winter, making that bit hard! (On the other hand. Someone would just get hit by a rocket being fired horizontally.)
When we got back home, we watched the next show. My nephew had some fireworks, and there was an empty parking lot close by. He was SO proud.
Today is an ordinary day. My sister spent her last day of vacation and needs to go to work again. My youngest nephew is counting the hours until my departure. He is NOT looking forward to that. Fortunately, I still have a few days left......
