Bryllupssjal / Wedding shawl
Men ak!
One of my nieces is getting married in August, and as the first of the young people, she would like a knitted wedding shawl. So of course she'll have one of those!
She picked a "Queen Silvia" shawl from "Knitted lace of Estonia" by Nancy Bush - a real Haapsalu-shawl. (Well. The pattern has the edge knitted on instead of sewn on. But I'll live with that!)
I had the yarn bought from England - incredibly soft merino/silk.
But alas! It was almost impossible to knit the super-thin yarn on a metal circular needle, and when I finally made a few charts, I could see how the yarn was far too white. It was supposed to be more natural.
Lettere sindssygt. Jeg ved det!)
Fortunately, I was in Haapsalu! Help was not far away...... I bought pretty, short birch-wood needles in a shop, and they are just brilliant for knitting the thin yarn! I also bought the thinnest, most beautiful merino with a bit of cashmere in the shawl-museum, and it's really wonderfully beautiful.
So after starting the shawl no less than 3 times, it's finally growing well. I knit and knit and knit while in Estonia, but after I returned home, I haven't knitted so much.
I think it will be very beautiful! (and I have to start again. Actually, I would like to make another shawl before the start of August for another present. Slightly insane. I know!)
