My mother turns 75 on Monday. We're going to celebrate the birthday on Sunday, and what on earth could be a gift for her? She wanted a new shawl, but right now she's staying in bed for who knows how long, and doesn't really need a shawl....
Fortunately, she thought it would be a shame if I didn't have any sock-recipients, and asked for blue socks.
Blue - that was just the color of the guinea-pig wollmeise yarn. Very blue, actually!
So she will get a pair of (rib)socks that fit, and a tv serie telling the story of the founder of Carlsberg. I guess it will keep her occupied for a few hours!
The socks? Needle size 2.5 mm, 145 grams of wollmeise with nylon and quite a few articles read!

Kolonormt! / Ginormeous!
The shawl for my oldest niece has made me breathe very heavily. Many, many times! Mohair-boucle is absolutely hopeless for recognising a pattern easily, and just the thought of unraveling is even worse.....
The good things are that it will be warm and soft and BIG! Actually, it's going to be gigantic! Right now I'm starting another skein of yarn, that I had to buy right now, if I'm to finish in time. Just because the first skeins were not enough!
So - if "The White Lady" (famous ghost) shows up at the Academy of Music in Aarhus, then it's probably my niece, walzing around in her new shawl very soon..... If she is still cold after getting this shawl, I'm not sure what to do!

Saturday on Fanø came with two workshops. I already showed you the results from the first one, and so you are gonna hear a bit about the second. Annette Danielsen talked about her new book: "The art of knitting an island". I never met Annette Danielsen and all her models before, but I would love to do it again! It was so funny and informative.
It was really interesting seeing the models "live". Several were completely different from my imagination. Positively or negatively. The model "Hvirvelstrøm" (a bit like a whirlpool, I guess) was exactly as expected, and it only added to my love and expectations of the model when the designer told how she tried to make the rings in the water, when you throw a very big stone in a round lake. That word (in Danish) couldn't be in the book, though, so the name was changed.
Ude foran holdt fru Danielsens bil. Her forfra. Flot, ikke?
In front of the house was Ms. Danielsens car. Here from the front. Pretty, huh?

Men se så lige bagpå! (Åh - den er SÅ FED!!!!!)
But then look at the back of the car! (Man - it's SO COOL!!!!!)

Meget fin detalje!
Fanø also came with "The school-mistress' house" in Sønderho. Very nice detail!

Johanne finished her socks, that were never before seen.... Hello Kitty wasn't born in vain! Tomorrow is Wednesday, and you know what? I guess you'll see a few more photos from Fanø..... It's so pretty!

Hold fast! / Hold tight!
The last pattern for cars this month.
Today you'll have the chance of using that specific yarn you once bought by accident and have now you have no idea of what to make from it.
This pretty, eye-catching steering-wheel cover is something you can't live without! Not only will your fingers keep warm, but I'm also pretty sure it will protect the car from being stolen...... (Especially if you make a pink one with ruffles or a green with little flowers!)

Weekends on Fanø are always great. Weekends with friends are also great, so weekend with Fanø AND friends are over the top!
We live in Esbjerg, and did an effort to woolify our friends balcony with (discreet) yarn-bombing. Her husband won't be too pleased if it's very obvious!
This year was planned with time for "hygge", and it's actually very nice when all the time isn't spend with hurrying around for the next workshop.
Yesterday I was on the knitting "jewelery" and it was so funny! I made a pretty shawls-pin (and wore it all day). I also made another shawls-pin/kilt-needle not shown here, and then a bracelet, which will end up as a hair-band for my niece. The glass-beads were kindly donated by my workshop-neighbor, and I'm very happy with the result!
We knit in copper-thread, fishing-line and other weird things, but it's really funny and interesting, and I bought a pair of the extremely thin needles to bring back home for next time I need to make something.....
Her ses fine georginer fra Kastanjestrik.
A knitting festival is also exhibitions and yarn and people! Here you can see some pretty flowers from "Kastanjestrik".
Considerably more people came to Fanø this year, and the exhibitions and shops are totally crowded, so today's exercise will be looking at the fun stuff while everybody else are at their workshops. Will we succeed?

Ho ho ho....
We arrived in Esbjerg, Johanne and I, without our bikes. The train had schoolchildren stuffed in every corner, leaving no room for bikes. Fortunately, schoolchildren get a little confused rather easily, so the fact that it took them quite a while to enter the train, left us with time to carry the bikes (running) up the stairs to the bike-parking AND enter the train before departure (it was a bit late due to the very same children. Otherwise we would have been left behind!)
One of the important things to do today was visiting Ho yarn-shop. It's still the coolest yarnshop! Ever! Extremely nice, filled with great yarn (only) and with great savings. I know no other yarn-shops like this one! (Actually, I informed Jane, who has the shop, about this fact several times. Didn't get any more bonuses, though....) If you ever get close to the western part of Jutland, you should go see for yourself!
I was extremely good and brushed off a lot of yarn jumping onto me. But this blue wool clinged on! Dyed in 4 shades of blue, and extremely pretty!
When you're reading this post, I'll actually be attending my first workshop. On how to knit "jewelery". Interesting!

At blive klar / Getting ready
My bike's excited. The tyres got air and it's ready for the second journey ever to Jylland. Fanø will be on bike this year, and I think it will be good!
I wrapped and packed. Gifts for our "pakkeleg" (yes. Again. We never grow tired of this game!), fun books. A gift for our hostess. Knitting projects. Shawl for the niece and another pair of socks (number 4) for the nephew. I have to get it done!
The birds are well provided with food, so they'll manage, and in a few minutes the bike and I will take off. Maybe we'll meet amidst all the yarn?

Hundertwasser

Another pair of plain k2p2 socks. For my nephew. This time using 6-plyed Opal Hundertwasser on needles 3.25 mm to make them grow fast!
They are lovely and warm, and the pattern is identical on both socks! I used almost 1 ball - a total of 120 grams. And with this, I just need to make another 2 (large) pairs of socks for him. They are going to be with different patterns. I have decided which patterns, and just need to start.....

Kunsten at trække tiden ud / The art of procrastination
I have a small job on the side. Four times a year I get a list of 80-90 abstracts and get to pick 10-12 of the articles. I receive the articles, and then I have around 1 month to read them and write a short review of each. Not unreasonable with a month to do this!
Anyway. Every.single.time I end up panicking the last day, reading, reading, reading (and writing), EVERY single time!
This last week I tried reading a little here and there, but was constantly disturbed by work and other things. So now I'm sitting on the couch with my computer.......
The really great thing, of course, is the fact that my very plain sock is growing a lot!

Bagdelen / Rear end
Opskriften er lige her.
Todays thing for the car is in Danish for once (but I'm quite sure that you can make it work if you know how to crochet!). I found it first at Lin's place, and had to share this with all of you.
A small, crocheted thing for the towbar on the car. So show everybody whatever you like! Make your own flag, for instance. Or a Santa hat? The pattern is right here.

Today we're talking orange. A lovely color that lightens up and brings happy thoughts. (Well - you've already guessed it's one of my favorites, right?) I have had some orange clothes over the years, and I still looooooove burned orange.......
Orange things at home did make me think, though. But I found it!
First my measuring-"spoons" from Ikea. Who wouldn't pick orange for these?
My bedlinnen is orange right now too!

Orange, crocheted carrots. Great birthday-present last year from a friend. Made by her sister and included in a pack of other healthy, crocheted vegetables.

Pretty, orange bowl from Turkey. It has a small injury in the black, but that won't stop me from using it! (I also have some red bowls in a similar pattern. Very, very pretty!)

Last, but not least - todays birthday boy! My youngest nephew with the orange hair turns 6 today. Very big day! Here he is a big school-boy, and I'm not kidding - he grows 4 inches everytime he puts on the bag!
Okay, han er jo ikke her i mit hjem, men han er i mit hjerte. Tæller det ikke også?

Okay. He is not here in my home, but he is in my heart. That counts as well, doesn't it?

Today is brown. Not the easist color, but a bit more present than purple!
Let's start with the backyards autum-treats. Hazelnuts on my wooden floor. Strange enough, I'm the only one willing to bow down and pick them up, but I guess it's just too bad for all my neighbours....
Brun som den fine PostDanmark notesbog!
Brown like the pretty notebook bought at the post office!

Brun som lokomotivet. Denne gang uden støv, altså!
Brown like the train. This time no dust!

Lilla fredag / Purple Friday
Ha ha - her går det sandelig godt!
"Lilla" in Danish can be many shades. From violet to scarlet, and it might be wrong just calling it purple. I don't have a lot of "lilla" stuff. But I found a little. Here goes.
First thing is a purple thriller. Elizabeth George is a great writer!
Then I have beads. A Christmas present from a niece at some point. When toddlers visit me, they love to wear all the necklaces that hang in a place easy for them to reach. And meant to be worn!
Maybe purple is appropriate today? I voted for "Radikale Venstre" (not so radical, actually, and not very left. More like political middle) who has purple as their color. It's going to be interesting seeing the coming government work.
I'm sure, the first female prime minister in Denmark will have some work to do, having everyone agreeing!
Så er der et lilla Æsel-krus. Åh, Æsel. Du er så sød!
A purple Eeyore mug. Oh, Eeyore. You're so cute!

En fin, japansk pap-æske. Indeholder alle slags post-it blokke.
A pretty, Japanese cardboard-box. Contains all kinds of post-its.

Last, but not least, some yarn. Wollmeise in shades that are or could be purple in some way. The amazing thing is that all shades could possibly be combined with a good result, although they are so different!
Now I'll go hunting for some brown things. See you tomorrow!

Today the color is blue. Blue like the sky and the ocean. Blue like the wall in my hallway and blue like the little girls dress on the painting. The big girl is my grandmother (I think it's the big girl) and I'm very happy to have this little heirloom painting on my wall!

Blå som sommerfuglen på væggen i badeværelset.
Blue like the butterfly on the bathroom wall.

Blå som gamle kongresprogrammer.
Blue like old congress procedings.

Blue like - once again - a surprised budgerigar. Maybe not as frightened as the green one, since this bird has been living with me longer and by some kind of miracle still hasn't been eaten......
