Going home from Cuba, we had transit in Toronto. For EIGHT hours. I really longed to be in a place where people spoke English and where the only shops were not tourist-shops. So (of course) I went to town, after studying Ravelry very carefully to find some yarn shops.
It took a while to get there from the airport, but it wasn't hard finding Queen Street West, were the yarn shops are lined up.
The first one was Americo. What a great shop! Only their own brand of yarn. Very, very nice qualities (and expensive!)
My project had run out going there from Cuba, so I bought a skein of wonderful lace-yarn and started a shawl on the last bit of way home. They were really kind and wound it for me, although they normally didn't do that during the weekend. But you can't fly without a knitting, can you?
The second shop I visited, was Romni Wools Ltd. The most crazy yarn shop I EVER went to! They had yarn EVERYWHERE! They have an amazing amount of brands in just one place, and I have a hard time imagining how anyone could go in there and keep just a little focus.
They also had lots of patterns, but mostly yarn. Great brands. Also European and Scandinavian (which I didn't really had the need to buy, strangely enough.)
The basement looked the same. Well - apart from the fact that all the yarn down there was on sale!
It was like nothing I saw before! Anyway. I bought a skein of sock yarn in camouflage colors. Turns out, my oldest nephew would LOVE socks in this very yarn. So I guess it's meant for his birthday......
Toronto was cold. With snow! The pigeons found a warm place, as you can see, but I enjoyed it. After a wonderful trip to town, I had plenty of time to get back to the airport - and all my colleagues who had worried a lot whether there was enough time and stayed in the airport. Poor things.
