Kedeligt? / Boring?

Well - you've seen it before. Several times! But these ribbed socks are for my nephew who turns 21 (I think....) on Thursday. Last time I made socks for him, he was a baby.....
To spice them up a little, I made orange and green stripes to break up all the blue stitches. I think he'll use them. He is studying to become a teacher, and I don't think they have the strictest dress-code!
The yarn is wollmeise. I used 115 grams, and I thought I made them on 2.5 mm needles. The top part is made with square metal needles that turned out to be size 2.25 mm.... But since I changed needles at approximately the same time in both socks, I hope they are alright!
And so I've used 2835 grams of wollmeise this year. I hope I can just squeeze another pair of finished socks off the needles in October. Those socks are - quite astonishingly! - NOT made from wollmeise!

October - the end

Ihvertfald i oktober!
Mønsteret kan du finde her.

Today's pattern is not weird at all. It's just pretty, but still - it's not just a scarf. The pink yarn and the lace-ribbon are once more reminding us of breast cancer and of those fighting it. For the last time this year, this Monday brings a breast cancer pattern, since it's the last Monday of October.
I hope these patterns once more reminded you that all of us can dress in pink. Just a touch of pink in October!
The pattern can be found right here.

Vintertid / Winter-time

Meget fornuftig veninde....

During the night we changed the clocks for winter-time. One hour back on the clock = an extra hour of sleep. But my inner watch seems to be just as stubborn as the rest of me, so even though I went to bed early, I woke up at the usual time for work.....
Yesterday my friend and her family came for a visit. Look, what they bought for me! Knitted candles! How am I ever going to burn those beauties down?
We had activities for the kids (and her husband), and then we had time for wool and pattern-books. She is a wonderful friend!

Et langt ærme / A long sleeve

The first sleeve for my hexagon-blouse is done. It took some time! Not just because of the small needles, but it actually went well in the beginning, and I was more than half done in late September. Then I tried it on and found it too tight..... And then I had to start over, making decreases on every 6 rows instead of every 4 rows.
I used 65 grams of yarn for the sleeve. Approximately. Which means that I will have to use the second skein of WD Pesto for the second sleeve to make sure I have enough. Very lucky I have 2 identical skeins!
As you can see, I made a tiny border in another green color. Will be on the inside, though, but I hope it will look nice.
The second sleeve should be faster. There are courses ahead, which will help a lot!

Oslo

Yesterday I had a short visit in Oslo (capital of Norway) due to a meeting. We arrived about 30 minutes early, and so we had time to cross the street(s) and take a look at the Opera House that actually was the next-door neighbor.
And - well - I was knitting a sock.

Can you imagine - they took our ship that's usually staying in Copenhagen! I don't think they call it the "Oslo-boat" in Norway, but maybe the "Copenhagen-boat"?

The Opera House is a real beauty. Built to look like a mountain-side with snow, made in white marble. Fortunately, it was unpolished. I guess it would be beyond slippery over winter if it was polished.... You can climb the slope all the way to the top, and actually, you can stand on the roof.
Meget kort, men effektivt!

We didn't reach the top, but only climbed to the back of the house. We found this seagull behaving very well, willing to be a model! (Some of the other seagulls were gigantic!)
The meeting lasted until late afternoon for our part, and then we flew back home. Very short, but efficient!

Mere tæppe / More blanket

It's anything but fast, but the blanket for my niece is growing steadily. Right now I'm more than halfway through with a total of 59 (small) squares. I think it's going to end up as a 108 square (9 x 12) blanket, or maybe 117 (9 x 13) squares - we'll see how long the zauberball will go!
A few of the squares will be big. Mostly because there were some very long white parts, and I couldn't stand the thought of all-white squares. I will make a few more big squares, and I think it will be really pretty with large and small squares!

The colors are like the bottom picture. We agreed on turqoise for the borders - I really think this blanket will turn out nicely (sometime in the future)!

Tivoli

Inden aftensmaden fik nevøen lov at prøve Vertigo alene.

Yesterday I went to Tivoli with my 13 years old nephew. The very best day, it seemed, because although we went after work/school, there were hardly any people and no lines anywere.
Within the first 90 minutes we tried 7 of the wild rides, including 2 I never tried before. After that, I had motion sickness, even in a ride that wasn't too bad..... We had a break, though, with a little to eat and drink, but after my nausea, my nephew got to try the Vertigo alone. He loved it (but still didn't want to try it again after dinner.....)
After eating, we tried some more stuff. A bit more peaceful, but we also tried the Demon again. (It's fun!) and then he tried a ride with a lot of spinning around by himself. Because I have to admit - at that point I was really dizzy, and even the stripes on the pavement gave me nausea.....
The promising young man ate TWO candyfloss alone. (He is a medical wonder. I never met anyone else who was able to do that!)
Did I scream? YES! We had a double-ride in the Dragon, since there was no line. Phew. I think I need a few years break from that one! But I did get my lungs ventilated, while hanging there, swinging around, head down.
My next Tivoli-experience? It will be for Christmas, and it will be PEACEFUL!!!!!

Hele vejen op / All the way up

Mønsteret er ihvertfald her.

This weeks weird breast cancer awareness pattern is PINK! All the way up your legs.
They are really wonderful, don't you think? Will take a while knitting, but you won't be cold all winter, and you will get a lot of attention.
I think they are cool. Maybe I should knit some next year? The pattern is right here.

Smuk / Pretty

This little guy was crawling along the sidewalk close to Disneyland Paris. Amazing colors! Where he came from, where he was going, and what kind of animal he was is floating in the wind. It wasn't Donald Duck! I'm sure of that much...
I'm very impressed of the colors. Even the hairs are bright yellow! And I'm wondering what the stingy thing on the back is for?
I guess Charlotte could turn his colors into a lovely sweater? She has so many funny and interesting ideas with colors.

America!

Just wanted to share the pleasure of this poncho that I met in an airport-shop with - well - American souvenirs. Called "America!" You probably sensed it already, didn't you?
Fun idea, although I don't really have enough imagination to visualize anyone actually wearing this poncho.....
Now I'm back home, and thanks to the fall-vacation this week, my usual evening-activities have been cancelled, which led to a very nice and peaceful week. I really enjoyed staying at home 3 nights in a row! It is really very relaxing just being at home and not having to take care of anyone and their plans but me and my own.
I had a lot of practical things to do, though, so I didn't knit for around 84 hours. SCARY!
Fortunately I did pick up the needles again, before I forgot how to do it!

Sokker / Socks

Ulla made a challenge - dare you show your collection of knitted socks for everyone in your family?
Ehm - yeah! - of course! Since the birds seem to have warm feet automatically, you'll just get to see my 15 pairs of socks. Many different kinds. Some of them in yarn from the supermarket are really hard to kill and well represented.
When they have holes, I darn it 1-2 times at most. And then they go to the great, big beyond for socks. I trash them, saying "Darn it", and then I knit knew socks. (Okay. Method and quotation orrowed from one the YarnHarlot books, that I like very much.).
I like knitting socks for me, but since I have plenty for entire winters in all my pairs, I make socks for others while waiting for my own socks to grow holes......
;-)

Rose

The little dress is finished, sewn, washed and joined me for a little walk to a botanical garden close to were I live. I wanted to take photos of the dress with some pink flowers, to make it easier for my camera to show the pinkness more correctly!
The pattern is "Little sister's dress", that I guess has been used by many people. And now by me! A great pattern. Easily done and quite simple but yet very pretty. Perfect for knitting at conferences, when you have to listen as well!
The dress is for a little girl I met just before going on the conference. Her mother is from Asia, her father Danish. She and her mum live at my friends place right now, after her dad threatened her mum (and her) with a big knife. Her paternal grandparents don't seem to care much, and her mum's family is far away from Denmark.
I know that I'm a big softie, but I just can't stand the thought of a young, barely 1 year old, little girl is thought to be precious by no-one but her mum. Of course, her mother is in a big crisis situation right now, so I tried expressing some concern and love in a piece of knitting. The dress is big, but so is the girl, and you know - they grow like weed during that age!

The dress is made from wollmeise, the color is called WD Tutu Dark and is really lovely pink. Almost so bright it hurts your eyes if the sun is really shining! As you can see, the shade is very variegated, and I'm very happy with it.
I made size 18 months, but used slightly bigger needles, and it ended up a size 2 years.
The dress took 150 grams of wollmeise, and so I used 2720 grams so far this year. I guess I'll be able to buy some more of the yarn soon!

Universal Studio

It was very hot and amazing seeing Universal Studios. I remembered a lot from last time I went there (I think it was 4 years ago), but was very excited to see the new Harry Potter corner. After walking through the park, and almost through Jurassic Park, I suddenly saw Hogwarts high above the trees. An awesome sight!
Apart from the castle, that has a castle-tour and a ride to make you feel like you're flying, they built Hogsmeade, the village where the pupils will go for candy-shopping and ginger-beer. They built some very nice shops. Some of them are open, like the candy-store and Olivander's wand-shop, while the rest are just nice to look at. Furthermore, all the employees are dressed with long cloaks and they even have a school choir singing, complete with frogs and all...
Denne gang sådan lige i Trendelenburgs leje.

Of course I had to try the ride with the flying (after making sure that it was mostly simulation. Didn't really need more loops in my life right now! Well. Apart from the loops in a knitting project.) and after going back and forth a few times, I was finally told I could split the contents of my bag into 2 lockers, and then I was good to go.
It was a lot of fun! Well - except that the ride stopped shortly 2-3 times, while we hang strapped in the chairs in different positions. The ride is really cool, and you definitely feel like flying! We also saw some very horrible dementors.
Maybe the dementors were to blame, actually, because after we passed them, the ride stopped again. This time in a perfect Trendelenburgs position. Well - similar to it, at least! The chairs were tilted backwards, and my head was a bit lower than the rest of my body. My legs were in an angle over the edge of the chair, and there I was. Lying around, staring up in the dark ceiling for 5-10, maybe 15 minutes. It was kind of relaxing, but in a very annoying way!
The ride never really started again. In the end, the chairs were turned, making everyone sit up normally, the lights came on, and we rode slowly through the rest of the ride. The ride is definitely not so much fun with the lights on, as you can see!
After this ride, I didn't really have the energy for anything except coffee and a bit of knitting, and that was the end of that day. Now I'm back home in my apartment. I love that too!

Hunde mod brystkræft / Dogs against breast cancer

Today's pattern is a kind of extraordinary. You won't have to use a lot of yarn, and I doubt it will cost you much time to make these. They are pink, and no doubt reminding us to focus on breast cancer. But - and this is an important BUT - you really need a very patient dog to use these.... Don't tell me I didn't warn you!

The dress is done for now. It's really pretty, and I used almost a skein of yarn for it. As with other wollmeise-colors it's really difficult to capture on picture, but I'll try again when I'm back home and the ends at woven in.

The conference is done as well. We had a wonderful dinner last night, complete with these pretty little butter-birds! All my colleagues are going back home today.

But not me. As a "desert" for this congress, I will stay another day and today I'm going to Universal Studios. I'm really excited!

Orlando

Men hvad. Det hedder livs-erfaring, ikke?

My life is running ahead of me..... Right now I'm actually in Florida for a conference. I left Denmark on Wednesday, and I really love landing in the middle of palm trees, sunshine and warmth!
I had been very careful, finding a hotel in walking distance from the conference center. It was also cheap. Totally win-win! Unfortunately I didn't notice that the highway is running exactly between my hotel and the conference center! In order to cross the highway, I would have to walk 3 kilometers in either direction, cross the highway and walk 3 kilometers back....... The money I used on taxis already, would easily have gotten me a better hotel, closer to the conference!
Well.... I guess it's just another stroke of life's wisdom for me.
Her er dejligt i Orlando. Jeg gad virkelig godt tage en ferie her engang. Måske kombineret med noget andet, for en hel uges turistgejl bliver nu nok for meget. Selv for mig!

For the opening reception, we were welcomed like this. Just inside the door was a man, dressed as a bush. He was very busy making a lot of people jump and scream a bit, when he suddenly grabbed their shoulder. Very funny - and I was very happy that I already discovered him!
Orlando is very nice. I would love to take a vacation here some time. Maybe in combination with something else, since I guess that a whole week of pure tourist-stuff would be too much. Even for me!

Of course I'm knitting! This will become a "Little sisters dress" in the pinkest of all pink wollmeise-colors. I'm sure it will be finished before the conference is over!
I know I've been babbling about wollmeise, but I just love all the shades in this skein of a "single" color. I hope the dress will be well received!

I kø / Waiting in line

When we were going to Paris, my niece came to my place the evening before we were flying, because we had to go really, really early in the morning. As she sat there, drinking tea, she sad "I forgot to bring a knitting project. Too bad!"
How many times do you think you have to say that sentence in my home before you will be forced to knit something? Maybe - if you're lucky - you can say 75% of that sentence....
We found Blackhill wool in 2 green colors and some very green, very thin mohair (also from garnudsalg.dk). The 2 types of yarn were knitted together on needles size 5 mm, and since she couldn't pick a color, she ended up with stripes in the 2 different shades in wool, combined with the mohair. It is going to be a (huge) cowl with a hood when it's finished. Soft like a peach! Not my colors at all, so I guess it's really fine she got it.
Anyway. There we were. Waiting in the lines. I was crocheting squares and she knitted. Very, very nice, even though we seemed to be the only knitters in Disneyland!

Forsinket / Delayed

Rimeligt nemt at lære udenad, men alligevel rigtig flot. Og elastisk.

The socks for my niece are finally done. Too late for her birthday, but I guess perfectly timed if she is going to use them this winter. Even if she is living in Barcelona for 6 months right now.
These are the very socks that the hamster loved. I gave them to my niece without the hamster, which I believe made her kind of happy!
The pattern is called "Merino Lace Socks" and comes from the book "Favorite socks". It is a lovely pattern. Easy to memorize, but still very pretty. And elastic.

I finished them standing in a line in Disneyland. I guess it was while waiting for the "Crush"-ride, that really gave me a lifetime of respect for any creature following the East-Australian current.....
The yarn is a very pretty guinea-pig from Wollmeise. Just the color to make you happy! They took 110 grams, and so I used 2570 grams this year.

Disneyland weekend

As mentioned yesterday, it was a wonderful trip to Disneyland Paris. We had a great time, and I guess my niece never felt like she had enough of Disney during those 3 days..... She even wore the Minnie Mouse ears I bought her throughout the entire weekend!
She lured me into rides I would have sworn never to enter. Some of them had me do quite a lot of screaming, and one of them was so crazy that I afterwards volunteered in taking the Indiana Jones ride (loop and all) for the second time, this time keeping my eyes open all the way, because I was brave enough to do it after trying something much worse. Now I feel prepared for taking my 13 year old nephew to Tivoli and even try some of the rides that he likes!
The show before closure time was spectacular in a way I've never seen before. The princess castle itself was used as a sort of a screen, and it was really amazing.
Hvem havde f.eks. set denne hue komme? En Mickey Mouse - Master Yoda kombination?

We also visited some of the shops. Not that I really bought a lot (for once!), but they had some really funny things to look at. Who would have imagined a hat like this existed? A Mickey Mouse - Master Yoda combination.
