Even though I'm doing my best finding a new pattern when making a new shawl, this one will be something I made before. The pretty Tiong Bahru shawl was so beautiful and elegant, and right now I know another, special person who will retire.
It is for the secretary in the patient foundation, and she is some kind of lady! There is no end to what she has done over the years, but since she is more than 70 years old by now, I guess it's okay retiring.
I want to make her a shawl, and it's going to be one more of these. She likes black, but my colleague told me she might like purple also, so purple it is. When I went to Odense, there was a skein of Drops Lace on sale in the right color, and even though the yarn is so terribly slick, I hope it will work out. It is easier seeing the pattern in purple compared to black, and there is a crochet cast-off.
It needs to be done in just 2 weeks, so I really should be knitting non-stop. I guess....

Herman - R.I.P.
Bl.a. revet æble, nødder og chokolade. Og lidt kanel. Han blev så lækker! Det blev en dejlig, duftende kage.
On Tuesday, Herman maturated and became an adult. He was mixed with flour, oil, sugar, eggs and more. For instance grated apple, nuts and chocolate. And a little cinnamon. He turned out delicious! It became a lovely cake with nice smells.
Mine gæster tirsdag aften spiste ham med velbehag. Mange stykker......
My visitors on Tuesday ate him happily. Many slices...... The rest of the cake came to work with me on Wednesday, and now he is gone. The last, little baby Herman will go to Lisbeth, and by now I can only hope that my colleague (who had one yesterday. Not totally willingly, but he is very polite!) will remember to look after Herman and bring a cake for everyone next week!

Lampeskærme! / Lamp shades!
It is already quite a while since I bought some lamp shade skeletons in Lagerhaus in Sweden. After I have been living in my apartment for 11 years with naked light-bulbs hanging from the kitchen ceiling, the poor bulbs now had been upgraded to naked bulbs with skeletons of lamp shades.
I wanted to make shades, but it wasn't until this Sunday, in the rain that called for nothing but sitting inside, watching movies, that I got started.
In the end, I chose crochet. Using 2 different flowers, a big and a small model. I used "gotlandsk pelsuld" from my stash, and available in several colors. First I wanted flowers all over.
But you really grow weary from crocheting flowers! So instead of making another 100 flowers, I ended up with black, double crochet for the rest of the lamp shade.
Now they are hanging in the kitchen, looking very finished. It is a bit untraditional using black lamp shades, and the light became a bit darker (if you know what I'm talking about), but since it is filled with holes, it works out nicely.
I used a total of 85 grams in 7 different colors. They were very simple to make. First I made a ring of flowers, thinking it would fit somewhere on the skeleton. Then I did double crochet until it was the right size from top to bottom, when it was stretched a bit. I didn't want them to be too loose! On the bottom edge I made the crochet edge that I know how to make......
Herman will be eaten today! He just managed to get some decendants. Now I just need to find some people in need of a cake-baby.

But this is what I'm working with!
Her er opskriften, ingen anede eksisterede.
You won't have me saying it! I do speak often and a lot of asthma-sprays at work. The blue, the brown, the orange and the red. I know how to take it (correctly) and even has my own asthma-spray-flute for demonstration. (The best thing is, that the nurses will come when I make the noise. It worked last Friday!)
This is the pattern that no-one had any idea existed. A knitted "sock" for the asthma-spray! I understand everyone is in tears by now...... (Except that you should rather use powder than spray if you haven't got a spacer.)
If I really could make a wish, I would love to have asthma-spray earrings! THAT would be too cool for words!

Strikkedans / Knitting-dance
Last night I saw something no-one on earth ever watched before. Guaranteed! A knitting-dance performance in "Dansehallerne" at Carlsberg (my first time there, by the way) featuring Stephen West and Kirstie Simson.
It was quite funny. Modern dance, and they started out by telling about their life while dancing (and knitting, if you were Stephen West).
All the time, many in the audience were knitting as well, which was part of the concept.
Part of the performance was conducting the knitters. I couldn't participate, since I was laughing too hard..... Well. Not only the speed but also the emotions were conducted. A little, chosen group was also on stage, dancing with their knitting projects.
At some point the light was turned off - right when I had reached a row of bubbles! Argh! - and I discovered that I'm actually able to knit backwards in darkness! The resulting bubbles don't look too weird.....
Det sjoveste tidspunkt var helt klart, da de inderligt begyndte at synge "There's a yarn for us. Somewhere a yarn for us." Frit efter denne her.
Ville jeg gøre det igen? Sikkert!
The finale was partly Kirstie being tied to the chairs, partly that everyone who felt like it, could come on stage, pulling a silk-"hankie" - a tiny piece of dyed silk, made from just one cocoon.
Afterwards there was beer, film and the possibility to buy signed knitting books by Stephen West. We also had the possibility of meeting all the other knitters and especially meeting people in real life who you only knew on the web. It was a really nice performance, but somewhat strange. I guess I'm more into watching classical ballet.....
The funniest moment? It was definitely when they started singing - very intense - "There's a yarn for us. Somewhere a yarn for us". An interpretation of this one.
Would I come again? Quite sure!

Men UDEN betaling.
Meget tilfreds.
I dag står den på strik-agtigt...... Først lagersalg hos Wilfert, og i aften strik-dans-noget i Dansehallerne. Skøn dag!
It has been a busy week, even though it has been short. But I did manage to knit my way through a few meetings. For instance this Thursday, where one of my colleagues with a nasty cough found a moment to try on the finished sock. She proclaimed that it fit her PERFECTLY! And the heel was the best kind of heel! If I really didn't knit for other people? Her house is turned east-wards, and it is so COLD! (Really!)
Yesterday I knitted on at another meeting, and there she was, telling me that she would love to pay, if I would only knit her some socks. I could pick the yarn and color and everything!
I don't really like knitting for others, as you may know, if they are to order projects. But these special socks didn't have a name on them. So she will have them. Due to all her reasons for needing socks, the nasty cough and because she is always so nice and smiling and helping others. But NO payment. (I hate that. I knit because I want to!)
The socks are made with sparkling Opal Hundertwasser. I love the sparkles! They took 70 grams (as usual) and the stripes match perfectly. I'm very happy.
Today is filled with knitting-stuff..... First I'm going to a yarn-sale at Wilfert, and tonight I'm going to see the knit-dance-performance made with Stephen West. Lovely day!

Minde / Memory
Today you will get a cactus-flower-photo-spam. It is not any cactus standing in my window. It holds a lot of memories! (Oh well - and two flowers at a time won't come that often....)
This cactus is not the original one. The "real" one came to live with me when I was a teenager, inherited from my grandmothers sister, whom we all loved dearly. She was amazing with plants, so of course the cactus was in bloom constantly when she had it. At my place it got plenty of water, but actually lived quite well as long as I stayed in Odense. It grew a lot of flowers and plenty of little cactus-kids who came to live with my friends.
Two years ago the old cactus finally died. It didn't look very well in the end. But I was fortunate enough to receive a baby of a baby of the old cactus, now living with one of my friends in Odense. And THIS cactus grows flowers! It also just grow and the first little new cactus is coming along. No wonder, that even the cactus is dearly loved!

Travl trio / Busy trio
De burde faktisk have serveret gratis lagkage i pausen.)
After some lovely, peaceful days of Pentecost, I took a dive into 3 very busy days. Such days where I'm only home to sleep. Days of knitting my sock in the few minutes in between other things. Shopping will be tonight before the supermarket closes, and my package will be picked up at the post office tomorrow.
But I have been to Odense! I've seen lovely friends! Last night I went to the Opera and watched "Tannhaüser" by Wagner. (Even on his birthday. They should have served free birthday cake during the interval!) I was a bit worried beforehand - Wagner is known to be very complex and heavy, right? - but much to my joy I already knew the music! It was amazing! Even in spite of me almost dozing off during the first act. Maybe because I knew the music from my childhood, always listening to the classical music my father heard while working in the evening, while I fell asleep?
I also had time to feed Herman. He moved to a larger place, as you see, and is bubbling away.

It is definitely slower than knitting the "right" way, but I do feel that the next rows of bubbles have been so much faster compared to the first row from left to right. All the stitches look like they have been knit through the back loop, which is kind of fun, and the knitting a bit looser, but it is actually impossible to see the difference.
It is really weird about the two hemispheres of the brain! Even though I thought that I just have to do, what I usually do, just mirrored, it is indeed something new and different!
The sweater also really shows how I learn new methods. I learn them, when I need them. Not before. Not while the well-known methods work fine! When do you learn new stuff, and did you ever try "knitting backwards"?

Blomstrende skriverier / Blooming words
Today's pattern is a perfect spring thing. Even if you work, you can bring the flowers with you, using this crochet cover for a pen. It is even re-useable when the first pen runs out of ink!
And you also get a little Herman-photo. The recipe says that if he hasn't got any bubbles, he is dead. I think he is very much alive!

Bobler og huller. Og Herman! / Bubbles and holes. And Herman!
A few weeks ago, on my "Tour-de-Yarn-Shop", I bought yarn for a sweater for my sisters eldest.
He is 13 years old, and choosing patterns and such is not among his favorite activities, I guess......
But he does like getting something knitted, and he was very compliant, looking (shortly) on the patterns I showed to him a week ago.
When I said "Bubbles and holes", he said "YES". Maybe he even glanced at it..... So I've started a "Lystfisker" (Angler) by Annette Danielsen, and while watching the European Song Contest last night, I finished the ribbing and first row of bubbles.
I'm doing my very best knitting the wrong way (left to right) when making the bubbles, so I don't have to turn the project all the time. It isn't easy! I definitely understand those messing around with needles and yarn when learning how to knit!
Today my life was further enriched with Herman. Did you ever hear about him? He was a chain-cake when I went to school, and he is still alive! For 10 days he is going to live in my kitchen, being caressed and fed, and then he will turn into a lovely cake that I can bring to work!

Bella vest
The Bella vest is finished and turned out really lovely. It is made with Mandarin Petit, pure cotton, and took 95 grams for the biggest size that will fit a "baby" 18-24 months old.
The pattern is taken from a booklet by Lene Holme Samsøe, and it is a very nice pattern.
I really like the leave-pattern on the yoke, and the rest of the vest almost finishes by itself, since it is stockinette stitch. It took me only 5 days of knitting.
There was something wrong with the number of stitches in the pattern, but everything turned out nicely.
The buttons were found in my drawer.
Now I just need to wrap it and give it away in a week. I hope it will bring some joy!

It is impressive, don't you think? It doesn't take more than a few hours to become fed up with having a cold..... It's extra annoying waking up in the middle of the night, not being able to sleep again!
But I can enjoy my cactus that went crazy, having TWO buds at a time, and both of them looking like they will become flowers!
I am also very happy about a visit from my oldest niece. She has been staying in Copenhagen for a few days, and fortunately, she is capable of entertaining herself while I have been at work. It has been ever so nice. Tonight I'm going to enjoy being alone, though, getting ready for work tomorrow.
The Bella vest is done, but I'll show it to you later. It looks good!

Hvad de siger / What they say
This Tuesday I babysat the 2 youngest in the afternoon and evening. Very pleasant! My niece started by asking if I knew, what she was wearing under the scarf? And then she showed me the cowl that I made for her and looked very happy......
We practiced the very old discipline of picking dandelions and blowing the seeds off, ate ice-cream, bought hard candy and visited an electronics mega-store on the main shopping street. They were not to sure about this, but I told them of all the films, so my nephew asked "Are they more films than you have in your apartment, Moster?" (This is how I live. Films, yarn and birds.)
Later in the evening, after watching me knitting the little Bella-vest, he suddenly said "You need to make a vest for me too, Moster!" I hadn't seen this coming, since he never wears a vest!
"Make me a safety vest! It needs to be 4 inches thick!"

Drama
The vest does not cause any drama. Oh no. It is just growing steadily in a very calm fashion. Maybe it could speed up a little?
It was my neighbours Dobermann that caused a lot of drama on Sunday. And I didn't even notice it! Once more, it found a way to get loose from the collar and raced happily back and forth in our garden in the center of the building, while everyone around it panicked.....
The happy, once more captured dog ended the adventure by riding away in the backseat of a police car. One of the 3 cars coming with the sirenes on and filled with armed police officers. (WHY didn't I see it????? I have to get more curious!!!!!!) He came back home quite quickly and is now the proud owner of a new harness that he is unable to get loose from.
My poor neighbor is on vacation and needs to get home and hear all the news. Hopefully, it will lead to a change, so Boston can come out and run and play like every other dog. It is not easy being big and looking dangerous!

Legemad - der kan drikkes! / Play food - for drinking!
Opskriften er denne her.
Today's pattern is really nice. I have seen quite a few patterns for play food here and there - knitted and crocheted and very pretty! - but you rarely see play-drinks!
Don't you need a sip of milk or juice when you really play concentrated?
The pattern can be found here.

Noget andet / Something different
One of my colleagues is going to defend his doctoral thesis soon (a bit like a ph.d., only much bigger. It is a Scandinavian title.) For my own ph.d. defense he was kind enough to give me a gift-card for a yarn shop (with one of the others, who also give really great gifts.....), and he had his second child about 6 months ago.
I thought that for his defense he will have an un-traditional gift - a Bella-vest for his little daughter. (By the way, he already called the "pediatrician" for advice once. What are friends for?)
Or maybe all this is just an excuse to make the pretty little vest? It is so cute!
I'm using cotton, and it is just beautiful. (Even though the stitch number is wrong. Sorry.)
By the way - the scarf ended up at my sister's. My youngest niece cried "ITCHY!" (Oh yes. She never deserved it!) and the other nieces just weren't quick enough. But it is just perfect for the green coat it belongs with now!

Farver / Colors
The scarf got a yellow edge, and by now it is quite finished. It is fairly big - around 35 x 150 cm, and I guess it is pretty warm thinking of the summer warmth we are (almost) having.
The pattern was very simple. All stockinette stitch, 2 rows of mohair and 2 rows of sock yarn (sparkling) alternating using 4 mm needles. The crochet border just needed to be put on.
It is incredibly light, soft and airy. You would never guess that the stripes are just plain sock yarn in combination with the yummy mohair/silk yarn!
It weighs 100 grams in total, and now I just need to think about what to use the last 75 grams of mohair/sock yarn for...... Oh well - and I need to give it away to someone! I hope one of my nieces wants to wear something this colorful, since it's a little too much for my taste.

Gul kant / Yellow edge
Yesterday I did the yellow crochet border on the scarf. Took me most of the evening, while I "watched" tv. A farming programme, a gardening programme and a coaching programme with Chris MacDonald, who really has a funny accent when speaking Danish......
Right now the scarf is drying, getting ready for pictures.

It's almost 8 months since my mother died. It was a giant relief not having to ride the train to Hillerød twice a week. Not constantly being a little worried or having the little twinge of guilt somewhere in the back of my brain. Not feeling all the time that the time wasn't mine to plan, and not feeling bad about the times that I really wanted to plan everything according to my own head......
Her illness took up so much space in my mind, that I'm having a really hard time remembering her as a healthy person. So even though I really wanted to have a healthy mother, it didn't feel like a realistic alternative to her death.
Whenever I visited her, I walked through a little bit of forest. Every single spring I watched the anemones bloom and I picked flowers for so very many little bouquets. For her, but definitely also for me! Today I traveled to Hillerød once more. Found that the stone with her name had been placed on her grave. Drank a cup of coffee next to the grave (she just loved having coffee) and came home with a last-minute-bouquet of anemones. But I got them!

Den blå planet / The blue planet
The great thing about having the same day off every week, is that I can do some planning. Since my family found out about it, I've had all kinds of really nice activities on Tuesdays.
Today I had a visit from my nephew and his wife. They were flying off on vacation today, and before doing that, they slept at my place last night, and today we went to see 'The Blue Planet'. It was amazing! Especially on a day like today when it's not crowded and we could actually see the fish. Like the orange fish with purple eyes......
We had lunch at 'Kystens Perle', and by now they have taken off towards the airport and I'm on my way home, using the bicycle path on the beach. It's SO wonderful......

Wonder woman
Det er mandag. En travl dag efter weekend. Første dag i ugen.
It is Monday. A busy day after the weekend. First day of the new week.
I don't know about you, but my life sometimes feels like a few super powers would be really great to have!
Today's pattern is a wonder woman sweater.
Maybe it would help knitting something like this? And we could be fashionable?????
P.S. If you are not very familiar with wonder woman, you can read about her here.

En slags striber / Stripes - sort of
The home-dyed socks for my nephew are done. They are very colorful, but goes well with my tablecloth!
He wanted stripes, and stripes it became. Sort of, anyway.....
I have yarn left for another pair. I'm sure he will get those too. Doesn't take too long knitting socks his size!
I used 50 grams of Knitpicks sock yarn. It is nice and soft, and if you get the opportunity, you should try their sock yarn blankets. It is really fun dyeing your own yarn!

Måske i neongul?
The scarf is finished, knit-wise. When I get back home, it needs a wash, and then I think it may need a crochet border. Maybe in bright yellow?
It is really soft, and the sockyarn (sparkling!) is good with kid mohair.
I have enough yarn for another one, but I guess I'd better finish the striped socks first......

Flere striber / More stripes
These days are filled with meetings and talks all day, and I'm knitting like crazy!
The kid mohair and sock yarn I bought in Uldstedet a few weeks ago is becoming a scarf. It will be half orange, half green, and I just started the green.
It is very simple. Fifty stichtes on 4 mm needles and stocking stitch all the way.
I hope it turns out well and that one of my nieces will like it.
Afterwards I will make another one with bright yellow.
