Mere Amsterdam / More Amsterdam
(Heldige mig!)
The congress is great and I get to knit a lot, while listening to new, exciting things (and quite a few old things).
There is also a giant exhibition from medical companies, but surely aren't a lot of stuff to get this year.
I've succeeded in finding a pathetic number of 2 pens and a post-it, and then this! A placebo asthma spray! (Lucky me!)
They could have had a bit more fun stuff. Reflexes or measuring tape or just a larger selection of pens?
Yesterday afternoon, there were no sessions about children, so I went for a walk to visit more yarnshops. It was quite a walk, but it is really nice here with all the canals!
I found and visited "Stephen & Penelope". Very pretty shop, but just not my taste. I guess the problem was mostly the fact that I already have quite a few Stephen West patterns from Ravelry, and then I found the yarn very expensive. But I did buy a skein of sock yarn!
Afterwards, I followed Tine's advice and found Weldraad. This is a very cozy shop with their own patterns and quite a selection of yarn. Something Dutch, but also quite a lot of Danish and Swedish yarn. The yarn is placed in drawers, where you can't see it right away, but they have a selection hanging on the wall. They did remember how a lot of Danes visited not too long ago.
She was quite the sales-person. I bought a very nice book by a Dutch designer (in Dutch!) with patterns from the Swedish place Öland. And then she talked me into buying some SWEDISH garn! ("It is such a nice company and they use local wool")
It felt a bit crazy - going to Holland to buy Swedish yarn!
When I get back home, I'll show you what I bought.

Or - maybe it not 100% genuine Dutch, since the pattern is from Pennsylvania, but still it's Holland as seen through American eyes.
It definitely is pretty, though, the crochet tulip-blanket!
What could possibly be more Dutch than tulips? Apart frm wind mills, wooden clogs and those beautiful, Dutch sweaters.

Amsterdam
These past weeks have been kind of busy, so it was really nice having to concentrate on what yarn to pick for a conference!
It is 5 days of knitting, which I love!, and with a never failing trust in my own turbo-knitting abilities, it would be really horrible to bring too little, right?
I guess this will hold me occupied.
The first morning offered me the prettiest bowl of oatmeal I ever had! It actually tasted really nice with the fresh fruit and poppy seeds.
Since I'm visiting Amsterdam for the first time, and since I discovered that I had almost a whole day without programme, I had to go see Anne Franks house. Of course I read the diary, like so many others, but it can be really hard imagining the reality in a hidden life.
There was a line outside the museum that took 90 minutes, but it was worth it. I saw the bookcase door and climbed the steep stairs to the few, tiny rooms where 8 people were hidden for 2 years. Imagine so little space!
Definitely a museum worh visiting.
I often wondered why all photos from Amsterdam contains water. Now I know why. Because the water is everywhere! All the pretty canals with the house-boats and the sweet little streets next to the water. Everything is so beautiful and cozy. (If you keep an eye on the bikes and avoid being run down!)
Herligt!
I also found a very nice yarn shop. I understand that I HAVE to visit another one (owned partly by Stephen West), but this one was quite good, too. I dug out some Dutch yarn and bought some rather nerdy books. So lovely!

There was something about a hat that was too small and never really covered the ears. I had to do something about it!
So I started another hat for big Miss T., also using the wollmeise DK. This hat took a little longer to make, since i also had to work!
The pattern is a bit old from 2010, but oh, sooooooo cute....... The color of the apple matches the color of her new coat, and I do believe that there won't be a dry eye (or a cold ear. I really made this very long!).
The stem and the small apple leaf are really so cute, and I can't wait giving her the hat.
I used needles size 3.5 mm, and the hat is nice and thick and weighs 65 grams.
Alternatively, you can use it for a toilet-paper cover. Could be useful!

Jeg vil også savne jer / I'll miss you too
Yesterday was my last day at Herlev. A very, very long last day, working from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and with plenty of work!
I had a nice present from the outpatient clinic - carefully chosen Danish candy. ONLY Danish candy! So I won't get too addicted to Swedish candy........
Right now, I enjoy a day at home before leaving for a conference. I really need to plan what knitting to bring for this occasion!

Græskartid / Time for pumpkins
The very youngest Miss T, who is now 6 months old, got some knitted stuff as well. When I asked her mum if she had any special wishes, she said "Pumpkin hat" - and right now is the perfect season!
I brought yarn for this last weekend, and going home by bus, I knit an orange hat using wollmeise DK.
I do think it's very cute!
On top of the hat is a real pumpkin leaf (although I guess they are bigger in real life!).
I'm looking forward to send this one after a wash.

Dem med glimmer / The glittery ones
The bride from Saturday celebrates her birthday tomorrow. Although it could have been fun knitting something else at the time, they actually finished during the wedding.......
It was nice being able to put them on the gift table so I would have to send her birthday present by mail!
The yarn is from Opal with glitter, bought in Flensburg. They are really nice, in boring ribbing using size 2.5 needles, weighs 80 grams, and they are completely identical!

It is September and time for yummy, ripe apples hanging from the trees! (Or in the supermarket. Local apples, at least! The other apples are available around the year......)
Today's apples will stay fresh for a long time and they are also practical.
The pattern is kind of short, but I think you can work it out.
Happy crochet!

Bruden / The bride
So here she is. My oldest niece in her incredibly beautiful dress. WITH the shawl.
It was a wonderful and very beautiful day, and fortunately the weather was fine and dry, too.
The bridal dress has been sewn by her (very pregnant) friend and looks like something a movie-star would have worn. If you knew how many dresses she tried within the last six months! She ended up with a dress that didn't look like any of the ones she looked at, but it's very classical and pretty.
She didn't wear the shawl when entering the church, and I sat there, really trying to prepare myself for the possibility that she wouldn't wear it in church. Just to be prepared. She is not the kind of person who wouldn't wear it when she asked for it!
Then, when they walked down the aisle, I accidentally stood in the back. And then she had put on the shawl! I started crying since I got so incredibly happy! Especially since I just prepared myself for the other possibility.
So you can guess I was a very, very proud and happy knitter to take these photos! (Her younger sister definitely would like a shawl too at some point. She already asked! I'm so up for another one.....)

Det bedste / The best thing
Punktum.
My niece got married and it was the most fantastic wedding.
The very best thing was that she was wearing the shawl!
I can't wait to get home and show you the photos.
She is now officially my favourite niece. Period.

En undskyldning / An excuse
Today I'm going to a wedding! Yesterday, I went to the center of town to buy a wedding present (because I'm always way ahead of everything). I took a small detour and "happened" to pass Sommerfuglen.
In there, I really felt sorry for myself for not going to Fanø, and had to buy a little. As the seller said, you can always find some kind of excuse for buying some yarn, right?
I bought the new book by Susie Hauman. Such nice models!
I also bought on (tiny) skein of yarn. So pretty and soft! Just afterwards I got a fresh photo from Ho strik, where my friends were visiting on their way to Fanø.
They brought coffee! (If THAT is not really serious shopping, then I really don't know what is!)
Well. But I'll be going to Esbjerg for a weekend soon, and then I'm sure I'll visit Jane in the amazing little shop too!
Today I'm going to the wedding. My oldest niece is getting married! It will be such a wonderful day, and this young lady is also coming. My knitting projects are packed, and I brought yarn to make her a new hat that will cover her ears......

Dagen før / The day before
I dag har ham her fødselsdag.
Today, this guy celebrates his birthday. I DID receive an invitation, but since there is a wedding tomorrow, it was kind of difficult flying back and forth across the Atlantic ocean!
The flags earrings are in place, though, and the gift of socks (and other stuff) was mailed and has arrived. Today will be used for getting ready for the wedding tomorrow. For instance taming the hair!
There are great chances for a nice day and a wonderful weekend. Even without Fanø.

Ude midt i havet / In the middle of the ocean
My niece and her husband went to the Faeroe Islands this summer. I had kindly reminded them how these islands are filled with knitting patterns AND that my birthday was approaching. It paid off!
I received this beautiful book by Tanja Jacobsen for my birthday. They thought it would be easier knitting from a Danish pattern for me.......
For all the patterns there are some incredibly beautiful nature photos that fits the model. Like this one colored as the sunset!
The yarn for the models would be whatever you want. The content and yardage is described and there are suggestions on the first page, but not with the models.
The pictures are so amazing and pretty that they don't only make me want to knit all the models, but also to go to the Faeroe Islands. Now!
Some day I would hopefully succeed? Preferably when it's not too foggy.........

The hoodie is growing well. Actually, the body is done now, including a pocket, just like the young lady wished.
As you can see, it won't be one of those camouflage-sweaters. But I do think the colors look good together. It is really lovely when all you need to make is a hood, two sleeves and some lining!

Videnskab / Science
Right now, the cases about doctors use of investigation-payments to personal stuff have been taken up in court. They sure spent some cash!
My sister suggested that I should use my last money for yarn. As soon as I stop at Herlev, the money will belong to the hospital.
I guess I could buy some luxury yarn and knit for rats?
What a case that would be in court!

Jeg skal bare i gang / I just need to start
The pretty, purple, sparkly yarn which will become socks for my niece within the next 10 days is just lying there, looking at me.
I guess they won't knit themselves up, so I'd better get started!
Happy rainy Sunday!

En vidunderlig dag / A wonderful day
It became a really nice birthday yesterday! The weather was good - most of the time - so I guess I have been really sweet.......
Last night I spent with some of my favorite people. Of course we had a cake lady with hair and pattern from American Twizzlers, among other things.
I got a CRAZY amount of gifts! A perfect t-shirt, brunch for 2, chocolate and Swedish emergency stuff. Not only food, but also a Danish-Swedish dictionary, that I will really need!
The Lego-lunchbox is actually a yarn bowl. It has a hole in the top to make the yarn stick through. Well - how genius is that? Danish design at it's best!
The mail also held gifts. One of them - a surprise from the US - was at the post office. A gossip magazine with the Duggar-scandal, caffeine-chocolate and fairy-stuff. I already had a gift in Chicago, so it was fantastic having another one!
The other gift was from Jutland. The card said that "the content fits one of the pages", so I can assure you I hurried up opening that gift! Inside was a new book by Annette Danielsen and yarn for this sweater. I have to start knitting it! For me!

Et år mere / Another year
It is very hard to ignore. You can lie about it, but not stop it, and even if you don't celebrate, it still counts.
The birthday, you know!
I've really been looking forward to this year's birthday. I will have nice, knitting, chatting, cake-consuming guests tonight, so I'm looking forward to a really nice evening! Guess I will have to spend the day cleaning and make some cakes before it happens.......
Happy day out there!

Freestyling
Trods alt!
I've started a small baby-vest. Well. Maybe not that small. Size 1.5-2 years, I guess. The pattern calls for pretty, regular cables made with the same distance all the way.
The vest in the yarn shop was not made like that, but had a kind of anarchistic cables, which really looked fun and pretty!
So that is how it will be. With different sizes of cables. It will be symmetrically mirrored around the middle, and identical on the front and back, so it won't be that chaotic, though.

Vi strikkede jo også / We knitted too
Hvad er en strikkeweekend uden strikketøj? Selvfølgelig strikkede vi. Temmelig meget!
What is a knitting weekend without knitting? Of course we knitted. Quite a lot!
The socks for my youngest nephew where almost done before the weekend started, and now I mailed them with the rest of his gift.
They took 100 grams of wollmeise leftovers, and I hope he will like these socks on fire!
Hættetrøjen til min niece kom godt i gang.
The hoodie for my niece got started off really well. It will be very colorful with the big, yellow bit! The yoke is with stripes in garter stitch, and I will switch color again for the lower part. It is really exciting how it will end up, but I do think it will end up looking good.

Øjne på fødderne / Eyes on your feet
These minion baby shoes are just too cute....
Actually, they are so cute it makes you want to "borrow" a baby, put the shoes on and put the baby back, just so you could make the shoes for someone.
Or you could make them and save them for halloween?
Or just make them to look nice.
