Well. Winter is almost gone. Spring is in the air! The children's department is bursting with snot, and of course I had to bring home a little......
I'm a bit scared that this time it's not only the kindergarten-plague, but the infamous man flu! I really feel sorry for my self. Even though I am able to work. I don't have a fever, and I don't feel like dying. I'm not spreading a cough everywhere.
But it's still nice spending a few evenings in the company of my couch!

Bling bling
The socks for the next niece celebrating her birthday are done. They are really worthy of a party! Pink with glittering yarn. I'm not sure it gets any better than this! Now they are washed and ready for delivery.
They are made with pink arwetta and multicolored berroco sox metallic that I bought in San Diego.
Really nice colors, and the glittering stuff is just the thing that makes them perfect.....
The pattern is very simple and pretty. The slip stitch pattern for the leg and stockinette stitch for the rest of the sock. I really like the effect. Furthermore, the pattern is completely free! I used a total of 75 grams. And then I guess I'd better get around knitting more socks. There are 2 birthdays coming up in less than 2 weeks!

Sandhedens øjebilk / Moment of truth
Back in October, I visited my lovely friends in USA. There are some great things about having friends in the US. One of them is the ability to order stuff on the internet........ (You know what I mean!)
Unfortunately, only one package had arrived before I came. The others waited until 2 days after I'd left.
Now my friends are back in Denmark. Bringing my packages. I was really excited (and a bit worried) to see what I actually ordered! And how much? Oh......
This Sunday I saw my packages. First 4 great books! Two books of techniques and two pattern-books. Looking good, all of them.
Then came the yarn. Not at all as much as I feared. Lovely Knitpicks bare for dyeing in my kitchen, and 4 skeins of malabrigo worsted in great colors. Bougth for the salad-scarf. By the way not enough of the light green color, I discovered when making it!
I think I will use it wisely.

Agent P
I really like Phineas and Ferb. Yes, I do! I love all the predictable stuff, the nosy sister and the incredible imagination of the boys, but also of the evil Doofenshmirtz.
I also like their platypus that keeps disappearing, but really is a secret agent.
Well. After this very long introduction, I guess, the pattern is well introduced. Your very own platypus!

Surprise
(Tak for alle jeres gode forslag)
When your niece comes visiting, you can get some surprises. Especially, when you are looking for a pattern that she remembered and wanted to see, and you find out, that two pattern books were so great that I had to own 2 of each!
I guess there will be a nice present for someone at some point?
By the way, our knitting circle was gathered yesterday, and we found names for the budgerigars! (Thank you for your great suggestions)
"Pelle" will become "Perle" (Pearl), which is almost the same, but a girls name. But the new bird will be called "Marius". In memory of the giraffe. (I already started training him to ignore anyone offering him dark bread......)

Ny fyr / New guy
Hmm........
New bird bought on the way home from work yesterday. For the first time ever I have 2 birds with identical color! Feels very weird, but the new bird looked very young and looks like a male.
I don't know how the early childhood of this bird was like, but immediately, it picked the straight swing as the favorite place and has been sitting there ever since. The old bird tried taking back the swing last night, but without luck. This morning they were sharing the swing......
The biggest problem right now is the name. The old bird is called Pelle (a boy's name), but is a female. Feels difficult changing the name? I'm thinking of calling the new bird Polle? Hmm.........
Hvidt garn at farve. Uha!
My oldest niece came visiting. Last night she told me that the yarn shop just across the street is closing, and asked if we could go and have a look?
We did. Looked very hard. Picked up yarn and put it down again. Picked it up again several times and put it back. Thinking of summer, yarn-dyeing and the baby arriving soon. I also thought of all the yarn at home!
Suddenly everything went wrong..... Brought home the blue theme. Isn't it pretty? Bourette silk for a summer top. White yarn for dyeing. Beautiful sock yarn! And soft, yummy wool/angora for a tiny baby sweater with stripes. Oh my!

Bling!
Suddenly I realized that one of my niece's birthday is coming up fast.... In a week, to be more exact!
Maybe I should start a pair of socks? Preferably some that are fun to knit, quick, easy and pretty.
Hunting down the perfect sock yarn made me find these 2 skeins. Pink and multicolored (with glitter).
The socks will have pattern on the leg part and stocking stitch on the foot. Looking hot.....

Og så var der en..... / And then there was one......
There has definitely been some major setbacks on the budgerigar-front lately! Two weeks ago I arrived home from Myanmar, finding my old bird sick and bothered by a tumor that had broken through the skin. He was put to sleep (to say it very nicely) by my sister.
I couldn't have foreseen that I would loose another bird yesterday..... After a very long day - on which I had forgotten that I had to work in the evening as well! (so much for forgetting to put appointments in my calendar!) - I arrived home to a lonely, blue bird in the cage and a dead bird on the bottom.
Sigh.
So now I will be buying a new bird within the next days. This time I would like a long time of life and happiness!

Perfekt match!
Jeg ville have alle farverne 3 gange).
First there was the tea pot cozy. Made from a hat pattern. Now I also have a hat......
It is a bit smaller and wasn't felted, but otherwise they are identical. The hat was used for the first time yesterday. It is really soft and warm (and a bit big. I wanted to use all the colors 3 times).
The yarn is malabrigo worsted, a total of 105 grams. The pattern is called "Asparagus" and is really from a kid's pattern. I made the smallest size, but on bigger needles.
Really nice. But I guess I'll refrain from using both at the same time?

Gå efter guldet! / Go for gold!
Bare kom igang. Danmark trænger til noget guld!
The winter olympic games are still on. I don't think Denmark can count on gold as a nation. Not, that I'm watching, but from what I've heard, we're not doing very well in curling, and that was kind of our only chance......
But if you can't win, then you can make it yourself!
Just get started. We need some gold!

I like the tea pot cozy a lot. The colors and the pattern. It was also very warm and soft before felting it (now it is even warmer and softer!), and I actually tried it as a hat (it was really a hat, wasn't it?), I really liked it.
Well, so now I'm making another one. A nice hat for me.
It is not very often you get the chance to match you tea pot, is it?

Weekend
Denne her weekend ser ud til at blive kort.
It is Saturday. Totally peaceful with no plans. Really nice! The day got even better, when the FOURTH knitting magazine within just one week landed in my postbox today!
It is not very productive thinking of finishing the stuff I'm making without starting something new. I've reached the boring point of my projects by now. Especially the temple flower, even though my 11 year old niece gave some really good advice yesterday.
You just need to make it with the sleeves, and then you can change it if you don't like it!
Why didn't I figure that out myself?
This weekend looks short. I kind of hoped to give away my work duty tomorrow, but it doesn't seem like it will happen. Better enjoy this day even more!
Have a really nice weekend out there.

Min kalender / My calendar
Her hedder det papirkalender.
All the rest of you probably arrived safely into the digital age. With phone-calendars and stuff.....
Not me. Oh no! I have a paper calendar. If the activities are not in here, it is probably because I forgot to write them down. Some things are in my memory, while others may be forgotten.
Yesterday I had it written down, that my tiny choir was going to sing for eve-song in the church. I hurried home from work and arrived at time! (For once!)
Just forgot the smart thing about dates. The appointment is next week. Which I discovered by calling my friend from the choir.
In the end, we went for Vietnamese food and went to watch the Paul Potts movie. It was just great! So sweet.
Morale? I guess it turns out better, if not everything has been written down correctly!

For Christmas, I got a total of 2 teapots. A large one, holding 2 liters, and a tiny, very pretty teapot for when I'm alone. The big one fitted nicely over my old brazier, but the small pot is too tiny. There is no way it can stand over the hole.......
So since I was sitting at home anyway, thinking about whether I'm going to love my temple flower, I decided to make a teapot cozy.
Some things were decided beforehand. It had to be more than one color, preferably with stripes. I wanted it felted to make it more warm and thick. It should have bright colors. The yarn should be somewhat heavy.
It didn't take me long to think of the asparagus hat from the book by Annette Danielsen. When I looked for yarn, I almost stumbled across the malabrigo worsted. Leftovers from the crochet scarfs. The rest sort of followed......
I made the smallest size, which turned out nicely. I made the circumference a lot wider than the pattern, since I think things shrink more in the height when felted.
It took me 2 days, a couple of washes and 135 grams of yarn. But it turned out really nice, and the size is just fine.
There is one problem, though. Now I want a hat like this, so I guess I have to start knitting again.....

Tid i sofaen / Time on the couch
While sitting on my couch, watching the Olympics, I have been knitting on my Temple-flower and have gotten quite far.
Actually I'm so far that I have to make up my mind soon. I guess, I will make it either half a flower longer, or maybe an entire flower.
It is a model that I really don't know how to feel about. I guess I have to see how it turns out. It is really nice with the sleeves, but difficult to find out how the length will be.

Babuschka!
The Olympic Games are happening in Russia right now. Amazing achievements in sport!
On the snowboard-slope there was a giant babuschka. One of those wooden dolls holding a smaller doll inside, that has an even smaller doll inside and so on.
You could knit mittens with a babuschka! Couldn't you?
The pattern is in Finnish. That is really weird! But it holds a chart, so I think it will work out fine.....

Myanmar souvenirs
As you may have guessed, I bought quite a lot of fabric in Myanmar. Quite a lot! My colleagues were impressed and a little shocked at my shopping-abilities, but I guess they just have to get used to it.....
Here are all the different kinds of fabric. The large piece at the bottom is cotton with embroidery on the edge. I think, it could become a nice dress or skirt? The small "packages" of fabric are 4 pieces of sarongs for men on top, and 3 packs of wonderful silk. The rest of the long pieces are cotton or cotton/silk. There is enough for a skirt in each. I think that some of them could become blouses/tops with the pattern on the bottom? Could be nice.
First I need to wash the fabric. I just washed my two "silk"-outfits. Surprise! The colors look really weird now. I guess it was the special tourist-silk.......
I also brought home nice bags. The red and black are identical. The middle black one was bought from the women with long necks, and finally there is the tote with Aung San Suu Kyi. Just had to buy that one.
Right now, I'm enjoying the final souvenir that I didn't really mean to bring home. Stomach pain and diarrhea. I was really cocky in Myanmar when most of my colleagues went down and I happily kept eating! In a way, maybe I deserved it.

Flere strømper / More socks
During all the bus rides I knitted too, of course. Socks. I brought a ball of Opal yarn with pretty stripes.
Of course you can also knit while waiting for the sunset..........
After finishing the adult socks (women's size medium), there was a long way before I would meet my suitcase again and I still had a little yarn left. So I made baby-socks too.
The adult socks are completely identical, but the baby socks are not alike at all.
I'm not sure who these socks are for, but if the baby socks are for my nephew's baby, then maybe the adult socks are for the mother of the baby?
In total, I used 85 grams.

Hvad skal du strikke? / What are you going to knit?
In 10 hours, the opening ceremony for the olympic winter games in Sochi will begin. As usual, there is a Ravelry-event (Ravellenics), usually with the rule that you knit something that should be started during the opening ceremony and needs to be finished before the closing ceremony.
I have to admit - I don't have an exact project for this. I think I'll finish my "faith moves mountains" and maybe my "temple flower". But you are allowed to finished a work in progress!
I'm looking forward to watching snowboard and skiing. Well. The things I will have time to watch.
What are you going to watch? Are you going to join the Ravellenics, and what will you knit?

I finished a pair of nice, soft socks. Made from the softest yarn with possum-wool and a little alpaca. (Oh well. Mostly wool. And a bit of nylon!)
They were first started during my Christmas-vacation, but very soon I discovered how tight they were. Too tight! Then the yarn spent some Time-Out time, before I cast on for the bigger size that fits quite well.
It is kind of funny that the color is very different on the two socks. It has to be due to different dye lots. (I didn't check that.) But I guess I just have to move my feet very quickly. Then no-one will notice ;-)
The pattern looks complicated, but is really quite simple. It is also for free, and is called Candlepower socks.

Hunde / Dogs
Myanmar has a lot of dogs. Most of them are street-dogs, looking quite shaggy and lying sleeping in the most weird and surprising places.
After a lesson about rabies, most of us chose to walk in a wide circle around them......
Some of them are very cute, though. Like this puppy!
This dog at the market was waiting very patiently for a treat from the butcher. I do hope he got it! I guess he did? Dogs don't beg like that without a reason!
In a lacquer factory, we met this sweet, very confused creature. It ran around, sniffing everyone's (smelly) feet!!!!!!!
Maybe the lacquer-fumes had melted the dogs brain. Who knows?
