Endnu et par fødselsdagsstrømper er færdige! I tide!!!!!!!!!
Another pair of birthday-socks are done! On time!!!!!!! Number 2 sock was only half done, but I knit the foot when I visited my nephew yesterday. His birthday is tomorrow. It was a very nice evening, and I was knitting!
The socks are made with left-overs from the socks for his cousins. Just enough yarn for another pair, when the multicolored "Amazonas" had stripes on the leg made with "Feld maus" (thus the headline). I like the colors together.
He put them on right away and was happy.
The evening was passed finding out what shawl I will knit for his girlfriend for their wedding.
So wonderful! More about that in tomorrow........

Ikke SÅ slemt / Not THAT bad
The little shawl that I really didn't like, got to have the ends sewn in, get a wash and a block. Now it's a square of 16 x 57 inches and actually not that horrible.
I like the wave-pattern in the in the different shades and types of yarn, even though I would have liked it a bit broader than the 16 inches..... The color is not right on this photo, by the way.
It feels a bit lighter and you almost see through it after the blocking, but it is still wool and I bet you it's nice and warm for the winter!
Meget nemt men effektfuldt!
It can just cover the shoulders, but doesn't go down that far. So what do you think? Do I need to make another one? Maybe I can add a shawl-pin or such (idea by my oldest niece). Wouldn't it be okay?
Maybe the tale of the little, unhappy shawl that no-one loved, will end happily after all?
Some fact: I bought the yarn on Fanø. It was fun with the big skein of different qualities. I used as much as I could, but in total it weighs 190 grams. The pattern is very straight-forward feather/fan. Simple, yet effect-full!

Garn / Yarn
Måske skulle de bare have været her søndag i stedet?
This Saturday I had guests. Knitting guests. It was so nice and everybody liked seeing my new place. But a couple of them asked "Where is your yarn?"
Well. It was hidden, of course. I don't live in a pile of yarn. Maybe they should have just visited Sunday instead?
I had to find yarn for the new shawl I'm making instead. Blue yarn. A lot of it came on the table! (And the floor. And the bed.)
I ended up picking some blue yarn and something with color-changes. Also blue, but still a bit different so it won't be too boring. I'm going to make Daybreak, and I think it will be nice!

Hurtig / Quick
Today's pattern is not only quick in the air but probably also quick to crochet.
A cute little bat!
Who doesn't need one of those in their life?

F.eks. Barndom ovenfor.
The blue project I showed you yesterday was actually for a gift. A friend of mine turns 50, and I know she would love having something I knitted for her.
But I want it to be something I would be happy to give away! I don't think my feelings for the blue shawl will warm up in time, so I guess that will not be the gift.....
Instead I'm thinking warm a a little more rustic. The was Stephen West designs. For instance Barndom on top.
Eller Daybreak. Eller noget med hulmønster? Jeg tænker. Det er hyggeligt at planlægge!
Or Daybreak. Or something lacy? I'm thinking. Planning is so nice!

I'm not sure what to think
When at Fanø, I bought that big skein of yarn with 12 little skeins. It became my airplane-knitting while on vacation, and I wanted it to become a stole for warming the shoulders.
Now it's done. It didn't turn out as big as I hoped. Maybe I used needles that were a bit too small? I ended up using 3.75 mm needles, since they were made from wood and great for planes.
Of course I need to sew in the ends, and then I'll have to see, how much I can pull it when blocking it. It looks nice, I just imagined it a bit different.......

Produktiv ferie / Productive vacation
Men pyt.
While on the congress and on vacation, I had the most wonderful amount of time for knitting! Actually, I made 2.5 pairs of socks in a bit less than 2 weeks. Well - apart from the hats, you know, and most of the birthday-shawl!
It was just great. Especially, since I don't always have a lot of time for knitting on a normal day.
The last pair of socks finished is for my oldest niece. Her birthday was a month ago, so they are somewhat delayed. But never mind.
The yarn is hand-dyed arwetta sock yarn, bought on Bornholm. I guess she didn't think she needed socks in yellow, pink and purple, but I liked the combo! Now she can always find her feet......
With these socks done, the amazing thing happened that I'm no longer behind with the birthday-socks! Feels great.

En tur til centrum / A trip to the center
When I was visiting Ann Arbor, I went with my sister to downtown. So nice! We started out having breakfast at a cafe in town. It was actually very nice having breakfast without (very) impatient kids!
The colors of the treas were incredibly beautiful right. It is the very area in the US with the prettiest trees. Everywhere are bright colors in the most amazing, almost flourescent colors!
In the middle of town there is a square with a - well - M. If you step on it before passing your first exam, you will never become anything......
I do think I passed plenty of exams, so I dared stepping on it! No photos were taken, though, so it was never proofed to happen!
Squirrels were everywhere. Large and fat and ready for winter. Actually very cute, too.......
Meget flot! Damen ved informationsbordet stirrede mistroisk på os. Måske med god grund?
We passed the big "Law Library" that looks like the dining-hall at Hogwarts. Very impressive! The lady at the information-desk stared at us mistrustful. Maybe she had good reasons for that?
To my sister's horror I took a photo of my sock. Of course! (Didn't make the lady stare any less, I can assure you!)
Taking photos of socks were not forbidden.......
The trip ended in an American book-store where I spent a few nice hours looking in knitting books. Till I had enough! Can you believe it..... But then I looked at other books. And drank coffee. I LOVE American book-stores!

Nothing is like coming home!
As you know, I really like traveling. It is wonderful entering the plane and end up new or well known places. Away from the everyday life.
But just as much, I love coming home! I know nothing better than landing in Copenhagen Airport, knowing I'm home now.
Fortunately, the apartment looked good and the birds were happy and had enough food.
The suitcase was emptied, and I got to look at what I brought back.
My birthday present - the nice onesie - came back with me, of course. I even used it last night, since Denmark has become so very windy and fall-chilly! It is wonderful to wear. Very soft and warm, although it doesn't have even one thread of natural materials in it. Thank you, Frikke-family!
I also brought some American classics home. Pumpkin because.... Well, because it was there, and it could be fun to try using it for cooking!
The glue came with the warmest recommendations from my youngest nephew. They use it at his school, and it glues EVERYTHING! (Moster, aren't you happy you bought it?)
Karamel-popkorn. Uhm.
Caramel-popcorn. Yum. I love caramel-popcorn! Ever since I tasted them in England when I was an au pair. This is the first time I had luck finding them and it will be very exciting to try them!
The other popcorn are for the micro-wave. They look so pretty with all the different colors!
I also brought home some knitting magazines. Stuff for friends. My yarn. It is so nice unpacking the suitcase!

Halloween coming up
Halstørklædet finder du her.
In a little less than 2 weeks, it's Halloween-weekend. It's not quite started being celebrated in Denmark yet, so here is something you can have fun with for somewhat longer.....
I think, you need to think hønsestrik the American way, but it's fun!
I think the patterns could be used for other stuff as well? A hat, a bag or a sweater.
The scarf is right here.

Rhinebeck!
"New York State Sheep and Wool Festival".
Today was the day for my first trip ever to Rhinebeck. "New York State Sheep and Wool Festival". I had really been so excited about this!
I'm not sure what I imagined. Something like Fanø. Bigger. But really - how much bigger could it be?
It turned out to be huge! When we arrived, the parking lot was like something you see outside Disneyland. It wasn't filled, but we arrived early......
HELT klar.
Right inside the entrance was the sign-post. A total "Kodak moment"! So here we are. Dorina on the right, Corrina in the middle and myself on the left. SO ready.
Inside, it looked like this. A lot of barns on both sides of a road. With little shops in between the houses as well. Oh - and this was just a corner of it!
Every barn was huge! There were little shops all the way down on both sides, and it was almost impossible remembering where you saw what. Since there was a total of 15 barns! Oh well. There were other buildings with other activities as well. That I didn't have time to see.
In some of the buildings, there were animals. Sheep, goats and even llamas. I thought of poor captain Haddock who was really spit on in South America and was a bit worried to stand in front of them....
But nothing happened. They look so cute!
Of course there was yarn too. Mountains of yarn! All kinds of hand-dyed yarns. Each softer and more delicious than the last one. Yummy!
If only I had space in my suitcase.......
I was wearing my Temple flower. Just because it's so nice and Danish design. Actually, a lot of people asked me what it was!
There were an amazing amount of beautiful knitted stuff. It was so nice just looking at other people's clothes!
When you leave Rhinebeck, it looks like this. Of course.
I really behaved, though, and only bought 3 skeins of yarn. A big skein of lace-yarn in beautiful blue shades and 2 skeins of funny sock yarn. The multicolored one has 10% of buffalo-down (who could not buy that?) and the yellow/brown (it's not orange) has 15% of dogs hair. It is so incredibly soft. (It's called Woofers!)
Do I want to go to Rhinebeck again? Wouldn't be bad.......

Flere huer / More hats
Just one Michigan-colored hat wasn't enough..... Oh no! My niece wanted one as well, and of course it shouldn't be identical to her brothers hat.
But it did need the M!
Next, my brother-in-law wanted one as well. It should also be different, so the stripes were doubled and the hat got cables. Didn't take long to make!
The final touch was pom-poms. So a pom-pom-maker was bought, and the hats were completed. Everybody was happy!
Her er alle huerne så sammen. De er da meget sjove, ikke? Tykke og varme er de ihvertfald!
Here all the hats are together. Funny, right? They are really thick and warm!
There was still a little yarn left (after I bought the second portion!), and poor Muddi, my nephew's monkey, was very afraid of the upcoming winter.
So of course he needed a hat as well!
Her er de så. Dreng og abe. Sødt, ikke?
And here they are. Boy and monkey. Cute, right?
