Yesterday gave me time and dry weather, which was needed. My windows needed cleaning! When I clean windows, I clear the window sill of plants (I have a lot!) and these two guys were also going away for a moment.
Do you know these plants? They grow soooo slowly, but will get very, very long "branches", and the "leaves" will fall off everywhere (and become new plants if you like....) - especially if you move them! Yesterday I was really fed up with this, so they met the scissors. Big time! But - hey - they will grow out again in a while.
The windows? I heard that you should never clean them in bright sunshine, since they will have stripes. My opinion is that you clean them when your timing is right, so yesterday they got a little stripey. But the stripes are so clean!

100
Maybe I'm disappointing you, but I only made 10 squares yesterday in the train. (I also knitted.) Now I have a total of 100 squares AND I have sewn the ends of every single one. That makes me very, very happy.
As you can see, there are a lot of colors. The last 50 squares will be red shades, but the finished blanket will probably be quite chaotic...... That's fine with me, though.
Now, that I can see the finish-line, I plan on continuing as fast as possible, and if I'm really, really good, I might finish during Easter? I do have something almost like a holiday from work, with days off on Thursday, Friday, Easter Sunday and Monday.

Fridag / Day off from work
So I went to Gothenburg. Almost 8 hours in a train to join a 4 hour meeting and have lunch.......
I didn't dare ride my bike to and from the railway station without my helmet. I guess I'm a chicken now!
But I was very busy on the train, and tomorrow I'll show you all my squares.

Göteborg
I dag skal jeg til Göteborg. Til et møde. I tog.

Today I'm going to Gothenborg. For a meeting. By train. On my day off. I'm not really feeling like doing it...... To top up things, I'll take the train back tonight, because if I went by train, I would only be home 1 hour before I'll have to start working tomorrow. And I really, really don't want to plan like that!
That said, it will surely be nice. With time for knitting/crocheting. All the while my dust balls at home will have a meeting. (Maybe they sense my feelings, that their time is running out?)

Uden arm / Arm-less
At kunne vaske normalt op.
I took off my bandage on Friday. (The 2 weeks became 13 days. Bones don't know how to count, do they?) It felt really weird!
Even though it was just for 2 weeks, my arm felt like parachuting. I just felt like putting the bandage back on to feel secure.
Saturday was not filled with happy-arm-feelings. It was very sore, but then things became better, and now I'm back at work. A bit stiff, but it will get better, I'm sure.
I truly enjoyed my sick-leave. Having plenty of time wsa really nice, and I even wrote the first version of my article, which I'm really proud of.
The crochet squares are still coming along. I want the blanket to finish soon, but I also started knitting socks. Still automatic, luckily!
And then I'm so exited about obscure things like being able to apply bodylotion (easily). Do the dishes normally. Using the computer without the bandage pressing all kinds of buttons, making the document look very weird! Washing my hands! Can you imagine - I never guessed it was really such a nice thing to do.

Uovervindelighed / Invincibility
Opskriften er lige her.
Maybe you played Mariokart or Super Mario games sometime. Maybe not.
That's why you might (not) know that this star brings invincibility! At least for a short while.
Maybe I should knit one to hang on my bicycle?
The pattern is right here.

Lige over gaden / Just across the street
Just across the street from were I live, a little yarn shop opened last year, called "Strikkeriget". I've walked past it several times, but always outside opening hours. Last week I made sure I was able to get inside to have a look.
It is a very pretty and cozy little shop (with "little" emphasized) with a lot of interesting yarns. Kauni in many pretty colors, different kinds of wool and also a few different sorts of novelty yarns.
And then there was Opal sock yarn for just 40 kroners a skein. Just a little shopping advice, because I'm afraid the offer is over, when the basket is empty....

Farvel kur / Goodbye diet
My Wollmeise-diet lasted until last Friday, and yesterday I picked up the result: 2 skeins of lace-yarn in the colors WD Koralle (left) and WD Vamp (right). Veeery yummy.
I do have some explanations/excuses ready. (Of course!) Just read for yourself:
1) I only needed to knit another 10 grams before making it to 1 kilo, and I bet the part of the socks I'm knitting weigh more than that!
2) But - the Wollmeise update hardly ever has any red laceyarn, and I love red so much!
3) I feel extremely sorry for myself for breaking my arm, and I really need to shop to comfort myself....
So now I just need to start knitting something (anything!) from Wollmeise laceyarn....

At udnytte / Taking advantage

Crochet is not my favorite. I've come so far, though, that I'm (almost) able to make granny squares without looking, but still far from having automatic movements like when I knit.....
Right now I'm doing my best to take advantage of the fact that crochet is my big (only!) thing at the moment, doing my best to finish as many squares as possible before the cast is cast away. Hopefully I will make so many that they will make me feel like I just might as well finish it up. At least I would like to finish half the squares for the blanket!

It's just 2 weeks, it's not warm summer, and I only broke my arm a little bit.
But I CAN'T WAIT to remove the cast on Saturday and shower the easy way!

Overlever / Survivor
At my old office there is a plant. Not very impressive or pretty, but rather a bit unkempt.
It's been there for 4-5 years now. It might produce one or two flowers at some time during the year (never simultaneously!). I think I'm the only one watering it, so it's not really nursed in any way....
But it's alive! I don't know how, but I'm very impressed! (Maybe I should spoil it with new soil some time?)

Blomster? / Flowers?
You are not that stupid out there, are you? Of course you know it's just my crocheted squares... But it does look funny this way, doesn't it?
I'm making good progress on my squares. Right now I'm making some in darker colors and I need to think hard if it's good enough or I need more pink, yellow and orange. I would like something lively, but I guess I bought quite a few skeins of the somewhat more "boring" colors!
To make it a little harder, I want to make the blanket bigger than what the pattern describes. It's hardly more than a big shawl! Oh no. I want a BIG blanket. Which means I have to make around 150 squares instead of 77. But it will be a nice, useable blanket.....

Uforudset / Unforeseen
Betrækket til håndtaget finder du her.
This Monday comes with a pattern that I accidentally stumbled across. Never thought about the need, but it's true that you can burn your fingers badly on a cast-iron pan!
The only problem would be if the cozy catches fire. But I guess you'll find out!
The handle cozy pattern can be found here.

Mere hækling / More crochet
Almost a year ago I crocheted squares for my nephew's blanket, and while doing that, I started another blanket for me. After just 5 squares, the squares went way down the knitting basket and were forgotten. (I DID remember to buy enough yarn for the blanket, when Drops Delight was on sale!) Well, the poor squares were victims of my lack of love for crochet.
Now I've been forced to crochet, and the blanket is back on the table. It's really nice making the squares, and I even memorized the pattern! The pile is growing, and I'm crocheting a lot, since I'm quite sure the poor blanket will be forgotten again when I'll be able to knit again.

Morgentur / Morning walk
While on sick leave, I'm not hurrying. Sleep a little longer, and to get from Frederiksberg to Rigshospitalet (the articles, you know!) I walk. It's a very nice distance, and to get there, I walk across Assistens Kirkegård. It's a very old graveyard that is very different. It is also used as a sort of park, and it is a very nice place. There are plenty of old (and newer) tombs, also with some famous people.
This is one of the tombstones. Two sisters - the first one born 2 months before the other and dead at the age of 10 years. The other one born 2 months later and dead at an old age.
Between the names it says "In death united with her sister". The girl who was born first, was named after her grandmother (buried in the same tomb).
So - what happened? A twin-pregnancy resulting in 2 births? A premature baby, surviving for 10 years, against all odds? A healthy sister? Could be fun to know the truth.....
Yesterday held sunshine and spring in the air. Pretty snowdrops and (not too bright) pigeons. It's wonderful to walk through here, enjoying the trip and the morning!
Lige udenfor muren ligger byen.
The city is right at the other side of the wall. With all the morning-hurry. It's strange, because just by walking instead of riding a bike makes it feel like a vacation. I look at houses and people of all sizes. When I start cycling again, I think my route will have to be different.....

(Ja!
During my 3 days course, I couldn't knit. My colleagues realised right away that something was wrong! (Yes! You can knit so much at courses that your colleagues will regard it as normal!)
Fortunately, I could crochet, and so I did. I had to look a lot at my project, though, but I was listening and I could read the slides....
I brought a ball of Zauberball Crazy and turned it into these squares (in real life they are darker and more dusty-green). Pretty, right?
The squares are to few for any use, but if I take advatage of these days, I'll make some more in similar colors.
How much of a yarn-addict am I, when I really HAVE to have something in my hands? Almost feels like taking you tranquilizer when not being able to get your drugs...... (And just to clarify - I never tried that myself!)

Mærkeligt, men sejt / Weird, but cool
During the last 3 days, I have been at a course in Herlev and have had some pleasant surprises. First of all, it was very easy and fast to go from Frederiksberg to Herlev using public transportation, but it was even better to see, what Herlev train station has.
It took a few trips past the shop to be certain..... The Station has a YARN SHOP!!!!!! (How CRAZY is that?) It's located in the old kiosk. Doesn't have space for loads and loads of yarn, and you can also buy tea and coffee (this yarn shop smells really nice!), but it's definitely a yarn shop.
So - should you happen to leave home without your knitting? Have no fear. Just go past Herlev Station and solve the problem between 2 trains. Don't we need more shops like this? (And WHEN will crown princess Mary have a sheep farm on Tasmania, so that Amalienborg Castle can start selling yarn? Well, I'm just asking!)

2 uger

Well, good old Einstein doesn't really have anything to do here, except that he is right, don't you think? In order to give a simple explanation, you really need to understand it yourself.....
The past 4 days have been unusual. Not only Friday and Saturday, but also Monday, I cooked dinner. Just for me. It felt great, and now my freezer is full..... It is really weird, and maybe this is why Einstein belongs here today, because - how can it feel like pure luxury to cook and eat in solitude? Well - I am living alone, but sometimes I still need to be alone. Doesn't really make sense! Except that I'm really grateful for my life being so filled with other people and never letting me feel lonely!
Well. Enough thinking. Today I'm going to talk to my boss and find out whether I should stay at home or if she has something I can do in spite of my right hand. These first 3 days of the week I'm at a course, learning about child abuse, so right now they are not missing me at work. (Fortunately, I can crochet a little. The subject is so sad!)

If you're hurt, you'd better do something to get a little (HUGE amounts!) attention and pity. Well, don't you love it?
Even if it's just a tiny wound on your finger that people tend to overlook, this page offers the solution! A Band-Aid-protection-thing!
(And then I can't help but think of the toddlers doing their best to beg for Band-Aids to put on even the tiniest scratches. They are so cute!)

Nyt navn? / New name?
Lidt for kækt!
For the first time ever, I've broken something. Just a little crack in a bone, but maybe I should re-name my blog and call it "Plasterwoman" - live observed at the end of a broken arm?
Fortunately, the Orthopedic surgeon told me that knitting would be very good when it stops hurting. Veeeery clever and highly qualified man!
The next days will be knitting-free, but we'll stay in touch anyway.
How I did it? I tried climbing a curb sideways in the darkness on my bike. A bit too bold!

Go Green
A few weeks ago I visited Nørkleriet and stumbled across a very pretty kit for a felted bag. Yesterday I cast on, and it's growing really fast (probably due to the fact that I'm knitting the bag, not the socks....). After the bag is finished and felted, it will have a funny bubble-pattern.
The yarn is special. It is "regenerated wool", made from 70% re-used wool from the production of carpets and sweaters and such, and 30% new wool from New Zealand. Really nice yarn and good for felting.

Weekend
After a few weeks filled with new work-place, guests, weekend-work, bad sleep and just so much to do, I'm really happy to announce that MY WEEKEND STARTS TODAY!!!!! A weekend with no work and no guests. The only things I need to do (apart from my usual weekend-stuff) are 2 knitting-evenings. Not at my place. I just about think I can manage that......
The days will be filled with articles to read and write, a little shopping and other small stuff to do, but it's okay. A lot of it can be done from the couch, while knitting. (It will be so nice!)
The first major thing has just been done. I applied for a visa for CHINA!!!!!! My friend from Esbjerg is in Beijing with her husband and son until summer, and around New Year I realized that not only does SAS fly directly from Copenhagen to Beijing, but if using my bonus points, I could travel quite cheap.
So in a few months I will enter Asia for the first time ever. Am I excited? We are going to relax, talk, knit, eat Chinese food, see some tourist stuff and visit a few yarn shops. I feel like I will be traveling to the moon. Meeting a completely different culture, people I can't talk to and I would never, ever be brave enough to go there alone if I didn't know someone there. It's going to be crazy!

Normal
As you can see, I rarely make socks with the speed of light.... The socks for my nephew turn out nicely (and they are really more kind of bluish than what the picture shows), but socks grow better if you have plenty of time for knitting. I wont have time before Saturday - today, for instance, comes with no time for knitting at all, unless I go to bed really late (and add to my lack of sleep), but the weekend will help them grow.

Paul
These socks should have been finished in February, but decided to keep me knitting in March as well. They have left town, possibly even crossed the border, since they are to be a bonus birthday present for my lovely sister, who turns 35 years on Saturday. I don't think they will be as far as El Cerrito by then, but hopefully they will reach her before she turns much older....
Since my dear sister has given into her dark side and is reading this humble knitting blog frequently, they are hardly a secret. But then you can look forward to them, right Sis?
Some facts? Wollmeise, the color is "WD Paul". (Compared to the "real" Paul, this color is quite different.) I used 100 grams, making the amount of used wollmeise this year reach 990 grams. So I'm really not qualified for buying more wollmeise yet.
The next pair of birthday socks are cast on. Big size to give on Saturday. (Yeah, right!) I'm comforting myself thinking that he will be able to use the socks for a long time, even if they will not arrive on the exact date.

When I was a kid, the smurfs were big. With toys and cartoons (some of them still in my belonging....).
Now they are in again. Not just because of last year's film, but also because of the smurf-game for smartphones (or is it just iphones/ipads?).
I fell into the trap as well, and while you're playing this cute, funny and timeconsuming game, you might as well wear this hat to keep your neurons warm.....

Strikkedrømme / Dreams for knitting
I don't know if you noticed, but I did manage to collect a tiny wollmeise stash..... this year I'm going to knit from it!
Among other things, I have pretty, pretty colors of lace-yarn. I thought that at least 1 skein should become a model from "Amimono" by Helga Isager. Her new book came home with me a few weeks ago, and I suspect wollmeise would make a very pretty "Robin". Or maybe a new "Olive", that I love so much! It would also be a great "Vanilla". Each skein holds 300 grams, and that should be enough.
I also have plans of a "Featherweight Cardigan", an "Evenstar" shawl and a shawl inspired by "Arsenic and old Lace". I happen to have just the right shade of poisonous green......

Garn i USA 2 / Yarn in USA 2
Eat.Sleep.Knit. Uha, for en dejlig butik! Kun luksusgarn, men lige lidt billigere end i garnbutikkerne.
Today we will take a trip around 3 more of my favorite internet yarn shops.
First I would like to mention "Webs". A wonderful, big store that will even give you increasing discount up to 25%, depending on how much you buy. (Don't we all just love discounts?) They have a lot of yummy yarn, and also my favorite kind of pink..... They are even happy to mail to Denmark, but please consider the taxes.
Then I will mention "Yarnmarket". I don't find the webpage terribly exiting (just saying), but they have TOFUtsies yarn, which is a really fun kind of sock yarn, made from cotton, wool, nylon and crab shells! You will get some really lovely socks, and the shop carries all kinds of colors. If you look elsewhere, you will find some really yummy yarn. Unfortunately, they only ship to USA.
Last, but not least, you have to hear about my favorite shop, Eat.Sleep.Knit. I LOVE it! They only have luxurious stuff, but a little bit cheaper compared to the local yarn shops. I bought Madelinetosh Pashmina for my sweater in this shop (and a few skeins for the stash). The truly horrible thing about this shop is that your package will not only contain yarn and some candy, but also scratchcards for their lottery. You can win yarn or money on your store account. Well. If that's not the straight way into addiction, I really don't know what will do it for you.... I actually think they will ship for Denmark, but again - beware of taxes!

Garn i USA / Yarn in USA
You might agree that I have gained some experience shopping yarn in USA.... So I thought today and tomorrow would hold advice concerning shopping if you go there yourself or if some of your friends travel and are kind enough to offer bringing back some yarn for you.
Personally I really like looking around different yarn shops, seeing what's on the shelves, but it's also very nice, if you have a package waiting for you at the hotel.
If you like local yarn shops, the place to find them is to look at the "yarn" page on Ravelry. In the bottom left corner you will find a search option for "local yarn shops directory". This will not only give you the address, but even show you the exact location on a map! AND if you find the yarn-shop Ravelry page, you can see what other people bought in that particular yarn shop. As an example you can see here, what other people bought at "Sommerfuglen" (look under "recently stashed")
Talking about internet-shops, I will start by mentioning "Knitpicks". Great shop - especially since they sell (you'll never guess this!) Knitpicks needles! Somewhat cheaper compared to Denmark, and even in sizes not available in Denmark. I've bought a lot of double point needles, and I love the 6 inches needles most. Perfect length!
Quite often they have a book-sale with very cheap knitting patterns. The yarn is also nice and not too expensive, and they also have just everything for dyeing your own yarn, which is so much fun! I love the sock yarn blankets most....
Apart from the fact that it is very, very nice to have a package waiting for you at the hotel, it's also incredibly easy, if you have friends going to USA. They don't have to run around town finding the right shops, and you will know exactly what you ordered....

Muligt / Possible

The little girl of some of my friends wore this pretty dress to church on Sunday. It looked totally handmade, and was bought very cheap in Istanbul, which meant they didn't know anyone having this pattern.
But it is so extremely cute that I took a photo and thought I might redo this pattern at some point. Knitted side-to-side, with an elastic pattern made from alternating knit and purl rows, lace pattern at the bottom and a textured pattern in the middle. Should be simple, right? Well - - - - when I have time for it, eventually, AND if someone (I would consider knitting for) would please have a girl! Right now everybody's having boys. WHY?
