I ved det godt, ikke? Jeg er tosset med dr. Who.....
You know already, don't you? I'm crazy about dr. Who......
His Tardis, which is his spaceship taking him through time, is bigger on the inside compared to the outside. Amazing!
It's also very much alive and can be hurt and sometimes very unhappy about specific persons.
Winter is drawing near, and a pair of mittens are a necessity for most people. Today's mittens are with Tardis-pattern. Ooooooohhhhhhhh..........

Riga i sol / Sunny Riga
I går skinnede solen. Hele dagen!
Yesterday, the sun was shining. All day! It was a nice chance after the rain, and we went to see most of the old town. First we met some yarn bombing, in a restaurant.
I the great market halls there was plenty to see. Butchers, bakers, fish sellers and so on. Shop after shop after shop after shop.
We could have spent the rest of the weekend cooking!
Der var også frugt.
There was fruit as well.
Og marked. Med mange, mange boder. Bl.a. med garn!
There was a market on a town square. With many little shops. Some selling yarn!
Husk forresten min give-away i posten under denne.
We bought some good stuff (and no - this is not all mine!)
Remember my give-away in the post below this.

Riga give-away
Today we went to visit Hobbywool again. They sell some very pretty kits with yarn and pattern for a pair of Latvian mittens, and since it's been a long time since I held a give-away last time, I though it would be nice to share some of the joys of Riga with you.
So now you have the chance of winning a mitten-kit and a bonus peppercake directly from Latvia!
Leave a comment for this post by October 14th, and I will find a winner on October 15.

Regn i Riga / Raining Riga
We arrived in Riga. And landed in a giant, wonderful apartment in the center of the old town. With plaster decorations in all rooms, and this head on the end wall.
It's raining. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But constantly.
Ikke, at det skulle stoppe os! Vi var skam i garnbutikker! Først i Hobbywool.
Not that a little rain would stop us! We went to the yarn shops! First Hobbywool. My friend, who was here last year, knows her way around the old town and knows where the shops are located.
At the entrance, this knitted horse greeted us. Very typical for the rest of the shop, which was filled with Latvian gloves in amazing colors and designs, both knitted and as kits, beautiful, knitted sweaters, nice bags, jewelery and funny small things.
The back room is were the yarn is. Cones filled with alpaca, merino, a bit of yak and lots of Noro on cones! Soooooo fantastic! Unfortunately, we didn't see everything, and so we are forced to come back today....../
The evening was spent with knitting, chatting, redwine, hygge and admiration of our yarn. Perfect evening!
I tried starting cat mittens on 3.5 mm needles, but they turned out enormous! So they had to wait for the 2.5 mm needles to be empty of socks in order to start again, and this time they look better. It feels very weird only bringing 2 projects that need to share the same needles, and my friends expressed how puzzled they were.

På vej / On the way
Hurra!
Blogindlæg i weekenden afhænger af mulighed for internet. Men I skal nok høre mere!
Sweet Rita fixed everything for us at the airport. So in a little while we'll be airborne! Only an hour later in Riga. Hooray!
Blog posts during the weekend will depend on whether there is wifi. But you'll hear about it. Promise!

Udflugt? / Field trip?
The sewing circle (although we knit) is going to Riga for the weekend on a Field Trip. Or so we hope! Last night I received a phone call with 'a great offer' from Air Baltic, due to the cancellation of our flight. Or so they said.
But it WAS cancelled! And now we're in our way to the airport to see, what SAS can offer, since they sold our tickets......

Min chili / My chili
For my birthday I had a chili-plant. With eatable chilies! At some point I had to start eating them, and yesterday I started harvesting......
The ingredients were ready for soup made on butternut-squash, sweet potatoes, different vegetables/spices with coconut milk and chili. The ingredients looked very pretty!
It looked the same way in the pot. But it wasn't very pretty when I put my chili-juice-filled finger in my eye. Yikes! It was really unpleasant! Even though the finger had been washed a few times.
The finished soup had a very nice color and tasted incredibly good. And do you know the best? I have enough for tonight as well!
Opskriften var herfra. Købt i Føtex engang i foråret.
The recipe was from this book. Bought in a supermarket this spring. I've tried 2 different recipes, and both were very nice, so I guess I need to look through it again. That chili thing sure has a lot of fruits! (And even though I only used 2 tiny chilies for the soup, it did taste very authentic.....)

Yesterday was my oldest niece's birthday, and of course she was having a pair of socks with her gift...... What else?
One day I had to hurry up going somewhere and just caught a caked skein of Wollmeise. I think it should have become Pfauenauge. The pattern should have been Mojo, but I have to admit I'm kind of lazy. Really don't want to trouble myself knitting socks from the toe up, when the other way around is working so well. So I copied the idea and started from the top.
The pattern is placed differently on the two socks, and they really look nicely crippled! Under the foot I didn't copy the pattern completely, but used stockinette instead. I guess it's nicer to walk on.
In total, I used 120 grams of lovely yarn that was mailed with the present yesterday. Then it can arrive just a day late....
So - what socks should I start now?

EXTERMINATE LACE!!!!!!
Who fan. Hun vil være dig dybt taknemmelig!
Every now and then I'm talking about Daleks. Those robots from dr. Who, wanting to exterminate everything and everyone.
In a way they are cute but in a very aggressive way. They are highly predictable, but still scary.
That these guys can look pretty on a lace shawl what not something I saw coming, but it sure is pretty!
Knit if you know a fan of dr. Who. She will be so very grateful to you forever!

De sidste gaver / The last presents
The very last birthday presents have been given to me. First you need to see what I got from the gift card, that really burned inside my bag until I used it this morning. After that my friends were happy not to hear me babbling about the gift card any more.....
We were at the yarn shop as soon as it opened, and although I had to take a turn around another dress, I went straight to this pattern and "my" color of yarn.
I have promised my sister that it will be done by Christmas so I can wear it, and so I do need to hurry up finishing all the other things..... I think that is a good decision!
From Johanne I got this amazing vase looking like a cone of yarn. It is so cool! I can´t wait to use it!
From Anette I got delicious, organic yarn and some cloths with knitting patters. Very nerdy and nice and useful!
From Johanne I also got new flag-earrings that she crocheted herself. I can´t wait until tomorrow when it´s my oldest niece´s birthday!

Workshops og nye bøger / and new books
Yesterday was workshop-day. First with Annette Danielsen talking of her new pattern-book inspired by the far East. Of course there were some technical stuff as well, and I tried 2 new techniques.
In the afternoon I learned how to design my own sweater from a designer/technical writer working at Rowan, and I took a photo of the sweater above that was found in a 25 year old, Dutch knitting magazine. Doesn't it look nice?
In the last weeks, a lot of new pattern books came out. I have been waiting for Fanø before buying any, but now they are MINE! Two of them even signed by Annette Danielsen and Christel Seyfarth. They are quite heavy, but I had to bring them home, you know!
Today awaits the glories of Sønderho, while everyone else are at their workshops. Hopefully that will give us the possibility of actually entering the market Hall. This island is so stuffed with people! I heard it's 10,000 participants or visitors......
I'm also going to use my gift card for the yarn shop.
Uuuuuuu - I can't wait!

After work, and after a nice train ride with knitting and talking (this year, Johanne and I were 'the embarassing knitting Ladies'. Very funny.), the boat took us to this sign (saying 'Fanø knitting festival'). Did we take the right ferry?
On the harbor, this house suddenly looked like this. Yarn-bombed in the prettiest way!
Sommerhuset ligger så fint, lige ved stranden.
The summer house is located right next to the beach and is very pretty.
Og vi havde pakkeleg. Den BEDSTE pakkeleg. Med irish coffee. Mums!
Om halvanden time starter workshops. Jeg er så klar!
And we held the gift game. The BEST ever. With Irish coffee. Yum!
In 90 minutes, the workshops starts. I'm so ready for this!

En lille smule panik / A touch of panic
Jubii!
Last night there was a bit of panic as I was packing. My workshop-confirmations were printed (but one of them happened not to be about designing lace-patterns, but just designing patterns. Too bad.), the papers with all the practical stuff were found and the bag packed. But WHERE WAS MY BADGE THAT NEEDS TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES?????
I looked and looked, until I finally found it in the (obviously very logical) place where it was safe from disappearing.
Whew!
Now I just need to finish work today, and then FANØ awaits. Yahoo!

Ret kedeligt / Pretty boring
My knitting projects right now are far from being very complicated or extremely exciting. The sweater for my niece in stocking stitch (right now my reading-articles-project) and a pair of socks for the very same niece, right now my bring-along-project.
Especially the sweater is eagerly awaited, and the socks should be finished by Monday, since that is her birthday. I guess the only thing to do is reading more articles.....

Arbejde på en mandag / Work on a Monday
Yesterday was a very entertaining day at work. My facebook-friends already had the pleasure of seeing these pictures, and now you are forced to hearing about my day too.......
It kind of started as soon as I arrived at work. Who said child labor is forbidden in Denmark? It looks like you have to start at a very young age in order to get a great career at Rigshospitalet!
The day was spent in the outpatient clinic (as usual). This special day had a very, very angry 6 year old visiting me, who DEFINITELY didn't want to do anything and only uttered angry "no"-sounds.
Our idea of making a skin prick test for allergies was shot down immediately, but I didn't give in so easily. I tried my best to show the child what a skin prick test is by making one on my own arm. I tested cat, that I know I have a reaction to.
So what came out of this? My arm was itchy like crazy, and the child STILL didn't want a prick test done. Total loose-loose situation......
Later that day I wanted to make a full skin prick test. On me. All my known allergies were confirmed, and I had a new one (dog)! All the nurses started talking of my yarn stash and what it would do to my dust mite allergy. Ha! "Fortunately" my entire stash is in plastic bags and boxes out of fear for moths!

Måske finder du ham her i et æble?
It is time for apples. Large apples, small apples, green, red and yellow apples. Juicy apples. Sweet apples and apples with more taste than sweetness.
Maybe you will find this guy in an apple?
(It's worse finding half a worm.....)
He is definitely much cuter in the knitted version, if you ask me! The pattern is this one.

Delte gener / Shared genes
A few weeks back I had the pleasure of helping my youngest nephew with his math homework. He was driving me crazy! It was amazing how many things he just needed to do before calculating the next equation. Or just writing down the result of the previous one he calculated. It took like forever and a few adults (we had to take turns!) before he was done.
Can you guess were this post is going? I'm writing a review article. Have to read some articles on the subject first. It's amazing how many things I just need to do before reading the next one. Or just before finding my knitting project so that I can have a nice time while reading!
Now I bought this. A book-stand to make things even simpler. Especially the knitting-while-reading part. By now I just have 3.5 weeks to deadline, so things are tightening up. Hopefully I can get started soon, then!

Glemte de her / Forgot these
Flere gaver / More gifts
The good thing about birthdays is that they sometime last for days. (That means that you will spread out the getting a year older, right?)
So I've received a few more gifts (and I even know that there will be more next weekend!) The first one is from my colleague, who went to Barcelona for a congress and brought home a gift for me. A tiny plate, made for crushing garlic by sliding them on the plate. Very pretty and handy.
My oldest niece gave me more than the scarf. I got 4 skeins of rayon/linen too. Would look nice for a crocheted scarf or wristwarmers, I think.
Her brother and sister also bought me a gift that I picked up at the post office yesterday. Tea, a tea-egg, caramel-syrup and 2 kinds of licorice. Yummy!
Today I just enjoy my very slow Saturday. It is so nice and relaxing..... In 10 minutes I'll be leaving for knitting-cafe. Also very nice!

I dag har jeg lært.... / Today I learned........
It is practically impossible to have a serious talk with a dad, if his daughter with asthma is sitting next to him, looking like this......
My oldest niece has gotten really good at knitting! This scarf was my birthday gift from her. It's amazing! She designed it herself.
