It's time for a status of knitting in 2014. It has been an exciting year with a lot of adventures. A total of 3 knitting festivals, 1 knitting-vacation and lots of happy hours, although the new apartment and all the painting resulted in a somewhat smaller production than what might have been the result.
In total, I knit 7185 grams of yarn and 62 finished projects.
2 kjoler (str. baby)
2 ponchoer (1 til mig)
1 tæppe (baby)
5 andre ting: tehætte, baby-jeans, suttekæde og 2 par babyvanter.
These projects are:
22 pairs of socks (2 pairs for me, 4 pairs for baby)
9 hats (1 for me, 4 for babies or teddybears)
8 cardigans/sweaters (none for me, 5 for baby)
6 vests (all for babies)
3 shawls (none for me)
2 scarfs (none for me)
2 tops (1 for me, 1 for baby)
2 dresses (baby-size)
2 ponchos (1 for me)
1 blanket (baby)
5 other things: Tea-cozy, baby-jeans, a holder for a pacifier and 2 pairs of baby-mittens.
Produktionen må til gengæld gerne komme op over 8 kilo.
Årets bedste strik? Helt klart min tempelblomst! Eller tehætten. Den var sjov!
Årets værste strik? Det var nok sweateren, der krympede. Øv.
Looking at last year's resolutions, the only thing I succeeded in was knitting for baby. I neither bought less yarn, nor made it to Pfaffenhofen.
But next year? I need to finish something for me. The things about buying less yarn and Pfaffenhofen are welcome next year. At some point I must succeed! The production hopefully exceeds 8 kilos.
Best knit of the year? Definitely my temple flower! Or the tea cozy. That was fun!
Worst knit of the year? I guess that was the sweater that shrank. Yikes.

Josephine
During the Christmas days, I was with my brothers family, including the parents-to-be, expecting a baby girl in February/March. My third holiday-project was a baby surprise jacket in girly colors. (Since the one in April was called Joseph, this one in pink needs to be named Josephine!)
It was finished in just 4 days and was fun to knit. Mostly because the recipients could follow the process! The funniest part was finishing it and ask them to fold the "rag" into a baby-cardigan. It wasn't that easy, and my nephew actually had to give up.
But it was finished, and I think it's very cute. It's made with Noro Taiyo Sock and weighs 60 grams.
This pattern is always a fun thing to do, and the result is good. Like last time, I made the sleeves a bit longer. This was the last finished project this year.....

Nytår! / New Year!
In just 2 days, we celebrate the new year, and it's not too soon to get started on planning what to wear for that special night!
Think festive, elegant and possible a touch of something homemade. It will hurt no-one!
The fine head-thing will cheer everybody up, and I think you can just about finish it in time.

Bryllup, sjal og forventninger / Wedding, shawl and expectations
My nephew was married yesterday. It was a wonderful, happy day, and everybody enjoyed themselves. Belgians are not as dry and boring as I thought (the bride is Belgian), and very quickly, the learned to shout HOORAY and bang the glass to make the couple kiss.
The shawl went nicely with the dress, as you can see, and the bride told me that had some nice photos with it at the photographer's.
She just never used it for the wedding. I was really disappointed, but once more I need to remember, that when you give something away, you don't decide what it's used for anymore. She was so happy when I asked if she wanted a wedding shawl, that I had no doubt she would be wearing it.
Well. The shawl is still very pretty. I have decided, though, that in the future I will only make a wedding shawl if people specifically ask for it themselves. I don't want to spend that many hours and that much effort to make something that beautiful if they just say yes to make me happy.
Still, it was a wonderful day. I do care very much about both of them, and wish them the very best for their brand new marriage!

Den ukrympelige / The unshrinkable
The new sweater for my youngest nephew needed a Christmas vacation and an evening watching Titanic in order to get done. But now it's finished, although it actually took a month to make it! (There was a shawl in need of knitting.)
Now it can be washed and dried, and then it's ready to be packed and mailed. It will be so nice sending it to Michigan!

En lille prinsesse mere / Another little princess
Another baby is coming along in the family this February. Another nephew is going to be a dad (and I'm going to be "bedstefaster"again!) and the ultrasound foresees a girl. Even though you never know for sure if it's true, I joined the excitement.
The parents-to-be wished for "something in milk yarn for baby" for Christmas, so I made another little Clara-dress in the softest milk yarn.
I used size 3 mm needles and it weighs 125 grams. It was well received.
I bought the pattern at some time, but actually, you can find it for here.

And then Christmas Eve came. So wonderful! Even though I thing the level of excitement is much lower compared to when I was a kid. The Christmas tree was extraordinarily beautiful, since my niece's boyfriend picked it specially for her family.
Also this year, I was lucky to get a tree ornament. An Elephant Order! It doesn't get much more royal than that, and next year it is certain to be on the tree in a light blue ribbon!
Min niece foldede fine servietter. (Hende med juletræet udvalgt af kæresten).
Kjolen blev forresten også færdig. Den må I se en af dagene.
My niece folded the napkins nicely (the niece with the Christmas tree picking boyfriend).
The dress was finished too, by the way. You'll see it soon.
Jeg fik dejlige gaver. Helt igennem dejlige.
I got some really nice presents. Completely nice. When you get both needles and yarn, it is very difficult not to start something new, but I'll wait a bit....
I hope, all of you had a wonderful Christmas!

For the first time (well covered by anti-histamine in order not to break down sneezing with watery, red eyes), I visited Café Miao. The cafe with cats, were you can order Cat Latte.....
It was a really nice and cozy place, and the cats were used to the attention. They did what cats do, and ignored humans more or less. Except when they found a chance to steal something extra delicious from a plate, you know.
The food was delicious, and the room was nice and clean. So if you happen to go to Copenhagen and would like a special experience, I give it my best recommendations!
The reason for the cat-visit was a cozy little "welcome-to-the-family" bachelorette-party for my nephews girlfriend before the wedding on Saturday. It was so nice! We were doing creative stuff, so I was knitting, of course..... Right now, I'm making another little Clara-dress, and I hope it will be ready to deliver as a Christmas gift for the parents-to-be. The dress is identical to the one I made in June, and the milk yarn is exactly as soft and yummy as it was then!

Lys / Light
You just have time for making a little decoration for you tree for the day after tomorrow! (Well. Or for the 25th.)
If the candles and glass ornaments or electrical lights are not enough, you could crochet a tiny, colored light bulb or two for the tree. Everything looks nice!
The pattern is this one.

Yesterday, I went to Malmö to do some important Christmas shopping. For instance the almond-prize for the rice pudding on Christmas Eve. (An important Danish tradition!) But of course also, because it's so nice going to Malmö.....
As you can see, not many people were around. Partly due to the heavy rain (fortunately, it stopped!), partly because all the Swedish people go to Copenhagen in December (which is why it's a nightmare going to the center of Copenhagen on a December Saturday because it's so crowded!).
The trip wasn't very long. From the central station through the shopping-street, visiting the usual shops, and then take the train back from the station at the other end of the street. The little orchestra in the shopping street was nicely decorated with knitted clothes due to Christmas.
Or was it due to Lucia-day?
The Swedes are great at yarn-bombing!
I bought delicious, Swedish specialties that I can bring for my brother and sister-in-law when I'll go there for Christmas. I'm sure they will be wondering what this is!
Julmust - which the Swedes apparently drink plenty of for Christmas - has a taste that's difficult to describe. Like a failed batch of cola or such. I feel quite sure they never tasted it before! Kalle's caviar is always nice with eggs, and the green jelly-balls have been a tradition for my parents for years, so no Christmas without those!
Tilsidst lige lidt bonus-info.
Thinking of my crochet lamps in the kitchen, I happened to by a lamp-shade as well. Couldn't it look nice some place?

Tilbage til nevøen / Back to the nephew
The sweater for my nephew has been sleeping for a few weeks, like a Sleeping Beauty. But now it'd better be finished, right?
The body is done, and the sleeves are next. I do hope it will be finished and ready during the Christmas days!

Vest
6 mdr. Godt det samme. Han er 2,5 måneder gammel og vejer 7 kg. Noget af en basse! (Men SUPER nuttet!)
A little baby-vest also found a new home this Wednesday, for the yearly gløgg-and-æbleskiver-hygge-knitting-Disneymovie-day. (This year, I actually knitted a bit!) It's for my niece's little nephew, who came home in his mothers belly as an extra souvenir from Africa.
The pattern is the good, old one from Ruth, and I made size 6 months. Which was lucky. He is 2.5 months old and weighs 7 kilos. He likes eating! (But was SO cute!)
Armed with the vest (which is so fashionable right now. Especially the hand-knitted ones!), socks and mittens, he can now meet his hood with his head held high.
His mother was really happy, so it was a nice gift to give!

Sjalet! / The shawl!
Here it is! The finished, blocked shawl. Oh my, I was so happy with it, once it came off the piano-threads and needles!
It is made with very thin yarn that I bought in Hapsaalu this summer. A skein of 100 grams runs 1400 meters. I still succeeded time and time again in having the tip of the needle go in between the two strands of yarn. Pretty annoying!
The pattern is from a book with Icelandic shawls, and I can't actually remember where I bought it.
The shawl weighs 50 grams and is made with needles size 3.25 mm. (Because that one was wooden and I was going on a plane when starting the shawl)
The corner is really well done, even though it was troublesome. It is the first time I made a corner this way, but it looks nice how the pattern continues and "disappears" up in the triangle.
The "arrow-heads" (or is it flowers?) along the edges are pretty too, and as it went on, I learned it a bit by heart......
In the written pattern you need to knit the edges on their own and then sew them on, but fortunately, it worked very well knitting them on as a went.
Jeg købte dem her.
The bottom corner is also so pretty....... For blocking, I tried something new. I got a tip on Ravelry and bought piano-thread (very cheap) and used it as blocking wire. I bought 4 of them, and they were just too short for the sides (as you may be able to tell from the single flat loop?), but otherwise it was easy and great. I bought them here. The shop is very close to "Sommerfuglen", so if you happen to be around that place, you're welcome to try. Just make sure to wipe off any oil.
All in all, I'm very happy with the shawl and proud, too. My nephews girlfriend was also very happy with it, so everything is fine. And NOW I'm going to enjoy a few evenings WITHOUT knitting a shawl! (Even though I have yarn for another one)

Stædig er mit mellemnavn / Stubborn is my middle name
My day off from work yesterday had to be used on finishing the shawl. Actually, I've been so busy with the shawl that I didn't really put up a lot of Christmas decorations yet, but the tiny Christmas-mice/bears did come out to keep me company. They are so nice!
I knitted. Quite a lot! First, I made 7 motifs, before taking a break.
Took me a few hours.
Så strikkede jeg de sidste 5. Jeg tænkte, at hjørnet nok tog en time. Max.
Opskriften siger: "Finally, work one row of single crochet (US) on the angle of the front of the border and 2 rows of chained arches at the bottom of the shawl. In the first row, single crochet in every other garter at the selvage and work 5 chains in between. The second row is the same except that the single crochet is on the center of the arches in the first row. At the center, work 1 double crochet (US) into the single crochet."
The I knitted the last 5. I figured the corner would take like an hour. Maximum. So of course it took 2!
Well. Now the knitted part is done. There is also a crochet border. Pattern reads: "Finally, work one row of single crochet (US) on the angle of the front of the border and 2 rows of chained arches at the bottom of the shawl. It's not like they explain everything in detail using Youtube...... Fortunately, the pattern and Ravelry shows photos, so I'll be alright, although it needs to wait until I get back from work!

Smukt / Beautiful
Ta-daa! Et fint, hæklet betræk til glaskuglerne!
Jeg har fri i dag. Skal strikke HELE dagen. Det bliver hyggeligt!
Today's pattern is for all those of you who have too many glass-ornaments, a crochet hook and golden thread.
Voila! A pretty, crochet cover for the glass!
I have a day off from work, and I will knit ALL day. It will be so nice!

Venstre side / Left side
The edge of the first side of the shawl is done! It's the left side (I guess because it will be on the left shoulder), and I even started the right side as well.
It did take quite a few hours yesterday, but by now, I can make a motif in just 30 minutes (if I don't make mistakes) instead of the 37 minutes I started out with. Approximately.
The corners, where the edges are started, are some of the most difficult I ever knitted. About the level of two-end-knitting, believe it or not! The right corner was even harder, since only the first half was charted. Afterwards, it read "use the chart for the left corner, just mirrored". Icelandic knitting is not kids stuff!

Cuba
(Læs mere her)
Do you remember the hats for Cuba? It's about 4 years ago. My colleague, who was in contact with the neonatologists in Cuba came to me and asked if I would help collecting 1000 hats. A THOUSAND! I though she was a raving lunatic!
But everything went beyond any dream with the help of all of you, and I ended up giving her 2853 hats that were sorted and used for premature Cuban infants, to help them get CPAP and have the ventil sit in the nose. (Read more here)
(I min ferie.
These were all the hats. What a mountain!
Well. But now things happened that I am fortunate enough to be able to go to Cuba in January. For the course in tropical medicine. (In my vacation. I pay myself. If anyone wishes to know.)
I do hope to see some of the hats again, but started thinking that it may be fun to bring a few more? They probably worn some of them out.
Actually, I would also like to have my patterns translated to Spanish, since they actually knit over there, but I need to find out how.
If anyone of you would like to help knitting some hats, I would be very happy. The patterns are here.
I'm leaving on January 23rd, and you can have my address by mailing me at christunte@yahoo.com

Guld(agtigt) / Gold(ish)
A few weeks ago, one of the secretaries told me she found an old knitting-book. If I wanted it?
If?
Yes, please! A good, old book from the 70'ties filled with knitted toys is not something to turn down!
It's very strange, since I seem to remember some of the photos. Not this one, though, although the owl is so very cute!
The patterns are clearly English (dolls wearing school uniforms and stuff!) and extremely charming. Maybe I will even knit something from this book one day?

For først kalder arbejdet lige. Men det elsker jeg jo heldigvis. (Glæder mig alligevel til at få nogle fridage snart!)
This week came with a bit more work than I remembered, so when I not only had last night off, but even got to spend it at home (alone!), the evening was spend knitting the shawl most of the time.
At the same time, I got to listen to my very first audio book (starring Hercule Poirot), which was incredibly smart when sitting there, staring at the yarn thin as sewing thread.
I can reveal that a murder was committed, and there are plenty of suspects!
Who the murderer is, is unknown until the weekend comes. First, work awaits. But fortunately, I love my work. (Can't wait for a few days off soon, though!)

Rundt om hjørnet / Around the corner
The wedding shawl is about to get the first edge started. The knitting-on-the-main-part thing is working well, but otherwise this pattern is quite demanding of my concentration.....
No TV. Preferably no talking. Music is okay, fortunately, because otherwise I would grow insane! The edge has 43 stitches and 18 rows in a repeat, and lots of stuff happen going back and forth in the cob-web yarn.
You will get to see this edge quite a lot over the next days. I just wanted to warn you! I want this to be done by next Wednesday. But my work seems to steal quite a bit of my knitting-time, so maybe I wont be able to make it. Fortunately, the wedding is not until December 27th!

Find mønsteret her.
I also like Christmas.
Why not combine those 2 things?
Birds on the Christmas tree are popular, including tiny robins, but on the other hand you don't find a lot of penguins on the trees......
Shouldn't we change that?
The pattern is right here.

De sidste / The last ones
This years last pair of birthday-socks are done. As usual, they are for my niece, who turns 18 this time! (I'm sure she has been longing for that day)
The pattern is my plain vanilla pattern, which I'm unable to knit in my sleep, unfortunately (but I can knit it while reading), and would you know - her birthday is not until Wednesday, so the socks are ON TIME!
Herligt!
The yarn is some Regia sock-yarn that I had in the stash for years. Actually I thought it was mostly purple, but it turned out to really like orange. The socks are very close to identical when comparing the stripes (just a row's difference), which is very satisfying.
I used 80 grams of yarn, so there is not much of the skein left.
The rest of this year? I'm only going to knit the socks I feel for. For instance for me. Lovely!
