Here is a tiny post. Unfortunately without photos, since the wi-fi is sooooooo slow....
So you have to imagine taking a very local plane, riding in a bus for a long time while watching the beautiful mountains and then experience the most amazing boat-tour in a giant lake, while the sun sets over the mountains.
Right now I'm at a hotel on a floating island in Lake Inle. The fish are jumping sometimes underneath my room, I can hear the waves and it is so nice.
I finished a pair of socks! Soft, warm and wonderful. Looking forward to showing them to you.

Palace
Yesterday we went on a trip! We managed to visit 2 hospital (one large, one small) and a health center. On the small hospital was this very informative poster. Something about the tiger telling the mosquito that everybody is afraid of a tiger-bite when going to the forest, but in reality, mosquito-bites kills more people........
There were some pretty houses behind the health center. Build with lovely, airy walls made from straw! I bet they are quite comfortable when the heat really starts.
We also passed a real emperor's palace! Turned out that Burma has had a dynasty of emperors, just like China, and it was kind of big. At some point, they even ruled over Thailand! This isn't the palace, though, but the house of the "Bee throne". The emperor apparently had several thrones. Why it is called the bee throne. I have no idea why........
The inside of the palace itself (right next to the Bee throne house) was amazingly beautiful. Spectacular, but still kind of simple, held with the gold and mirror-decorations. Actually I believe this may look good for my living-room?
This pattern could be used for a sweater.....
Of course we saw a lot of ill children as well. Some were really nice to see, while others made you feel very sad. It is not a very easy thing treating children when you have only this many investigations, treatments and follow-up things to do!
All in all, it has been really inspiring and wonderful to be here. The Burmese doctors are very good clinicians and very engaged, and picked some diseases for us that we definitely never meet in Denmark!
Tomorrow the course ends, and vacation is coming up. I count on an internet connection, but we'll see....

Noget strikket / Something knitted
In the first 3 days, I actually knit quite a lot...... In spite of jet-lag, things grow really fast when using 4 mm needles!
This will turn into "Faith can move mountains", a pattern from the new book by Annette Danielsen. Made with Isager Tweed and Rowan Silk Haze, which is a really nice and soft combination, although very different from the one used in the book (viscose, hemp and alpaca)!
The pattern on the front is clearly visible.
The back is done too - as far as the sleeves! It is so soft and warm and delicious that I'm almost looking a little bit forward to going home to the cold weather......

Kurset / The course
The course, I went to Burma to attend, has started. This time it is not "just" a course, but also a symposium with all the Burmese pediatricians for the first 2 days.
It also meant that we got pretty congress-bags! I wonder who got the blue one......
At the front of the room there were couches for the professors. You should know your place! All the rest of us had nice chairs, though. I was knitting, and it went well.
That is, apart from yesterday, when everyone had the most crazy jet-lag. I guess no-one really were able to stay awake all morning! I never before nodded this much or fallen asleep so fast! If I kept my eyes closed for 2 seconds, I started seeing dreams right away!
I meant, that my sweater, which is ribbing (4 and 6 knit or purl, respectively) was too difficult...... So I gave up counting to 4 and started knitting my ribbed socks instead. But after falling asleep after knitting 2 stitches and then waking up, not remembering that the next stitches were purl 2, I gave up!
Today went well, though.
And here they are, all the professors, summing up the meeting.
From tomorrow, we will be less doctors. All the Danes and the Burmese doctors from the hospital, and then we are going to see some patients. I'm looking forward to that! However strange it may sound, it is really exciting getting to know some new diseases, and you learn best by seeing real patients!
We are also going to see the hospital. Also very exciting!
Maybe tomorrow I'll show you my knitting? It is coming along nicely.

Shwedagon Pagoda
Yesterday I promised to tell you a little about the big, golden pagoda that can be seen from the hotel window. (The one our Crown Princess Mary just visited.....)
There are lots of photos and few words. The entrance was really impressive! Funnily enough, only foreigners had to pay entrance. Fair enough, I guess......
Meget smukt!
The pagoda wasn't just a house, but a very large complex of Buddha-temples in all sizes. Everywhere were gold and glitter. They even had houses covered in tiny mirrors. Very beautiful!
In the middle is the pagoda itself as an impressive mountain of gold! You couldn't get inside, but it was easily seen from all sides, and was so amazingly big!
Der var Buddha-statuer OVERALT! I alle størrelser. De fleste med gult silketøj.
There were Buddha-statues EVERYWHERE! All sizes. Most with yellow silk-dresses.
Nogle havde disko-lys-glorier!
Some had disco-light haloes!
Der var munke med smartphones.
There were monks with their smartphones.
There was an extremely well dressed boy who was lead around the entire place in a procession. I wonder, what it was all about!
There was also a large group of women, suddenly sweeping the place! You really had to get out of their way.....
Today I went to the course. More about that in the morning (which will also be all day course). ;-)

Rejse / Travel
The travel to Myanmar was really long. The first 10 hours of flight were good enough, but almost without sleep, and landing in Thailand on a beautiful morning was really tough........
From Thailand, we flew on to here, and after getting a lot of information (which very quickly left my brain again!) when arriving to the hotel, I went straight to my room, laid on the bed and regained consciousness after a few hours. Man, I was so tired!
From the hotel room, we have a view over the golden pagoda across the park. Very beautiful! we actually went to see it, but photos will follow tomorrow. Right now I just need some sleep.
But you just need to see dinner! I had tea-leaves salad as a starter. SO yummy. Apart from the green beans on top, which turned out to be some pretty strong chili-fruits! I have to learn, that "Spicy" in Myanmar is very far from "Spicy" in Denmark!

Hvad skal man strikke? / What to knit?
The biggest question with courses is: WHAT TO KNIT????????? I had been thinking hardly without being able to decide on anything except that it would be way to boring only knitting socks......
But then Johanne said: "When you are going to the East, you have to knit something from the book "East of the Sun"!"
Of course she was right. And i had everything ready!
So now I packed for 3 pairs of socks (oh yes) and plenty of red yarn for "Faith moves mountains". I can't wait!

Even though the secretaries told me I was crazy, I just WANTED to finish the baby blanket before traveling. So in the middle of stress and documents and packing, I crocheted the border. (Am I a yarn lunatic or not?)
It has been washed and dried and is really nice, I think. Big, warm and soft!
The pattern is from this book. In the end, I (almost) followed the pattern for the final gray triangles. The only change was that I stopped 1 row before the pattern told me to, and cast of all stitches in one go. It looks okay.
The blanket is made with Cascade Eco +. Nice, soft yarn, bought especially for this in the US. Every skein holds 250 grams, and I used about 210-230 grams of the white and gray, and about 20-30 grams of the yellow. All in all, it weighs 470 grams, so that's a lot of yarn!
It measures about 37.5 x 37.5 inches and is pretty big for a baby. That is fine.
Besides packing my suitcase, I also decided to send my application for authorization as a pediatrician before leaving. It should take the health authorities a few weeks to finish it. I also paid the 800 dollars for the application. (My bank guy must think my New Years resolution was using as much money as possible!) Now I just hope they are happy with all the papers and everything works out fine!

En smule lettet / A little reliefed
Hurra!
It is one thing to knit cute, tiny baby socks and laugh at my nephews skepticism about whether feet could actually be this small! Well - I did see a lot more baby-feet than he did, right?
Something completely different is to be sure that they would actually fit a real baby! I was a little worried.....
On Tuesday, the boy formerly known as Svend Matthæus, who is now around 5 months old, came to visit, and he was forced to be a model. He didn't complain, but just looked a bit surprised. Well. They fit! Hooray! (They do sit good and tight on the feet. No pulling this socks off!)

Sushi
The sushi-scarf is completely done. Weaved, sewn, washed and dried...... Not embroidered, since I couldn't make it look nice. Actually, I do think it looks just as nice without the embroidery.
It has actually been fun! All in all, it (miraculously) only took 8 days, so it is finished and can be given to my niece in due time before I'm going traveling. She must need it right now, when it is so windy and freezing!
A bit of facts: The scarf is from Twinkie Chan's book, Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies (again). It is a really fun book!
The patterns are really well written, so even if you are not a crochet-nerd (just like me), it is quite simple making them.
Highly recommended!
The pattern uses plenty of acrylics. Since I'm totally a yarn-snob (as you may have noticed!), my scarf was made with yummy yarn! A lot of the colors were not in my stash, and I wanted to make it with malabrigo, because it is so nice and soft, so I had to buy a lot. (A large part of my family would probably tell you, that this was just an excuse to buy yarn. Don't listen to them!)
I used 6 colors of malabrigo worsted, and black and white mayflower easy care classic. Furthermore a bit of silk/mohair and some alpaca/wool from my stash.
The result? It is SO soft and lovely! It weighs only 145 grams, though.
I believe, my niece will be happy with it!

Først de her vildt nuttede babysko.
Der er den cool badeand! (Undskyld. Übercool....)
Kasketten til den cool baby!
Endelig er der sko til voksne.
Johanne and I went to visit Rasmilla, when it turned out Johanne needs a pattern for knitted rubber ducks. This is a response to that need!
First "real" ducks.
You could make some pretty socks, too!
If you are willing to pay for the pattern, there are some possibilities too. First these heartbreakingly cute baby's shoes.
There is a cool rubber duck! (So sorry. Übercool....)
A cap for a cool baby!
Finally, slippers for adults.

Mere sne, tak! / More snow, please!
Ihvertfald ikke her i København!
We haven't seen much of the snow yet this year. At least not here in Copenhagen! The little snow we had, melted quite fast, and I know at least one 8-year-old who would really like to see some snow. (I know quite a few adults feeling the same way, but kids are just so much cuter.....)
If you are not willing to share, those of you who had plenty!, we just have to wait. And knit snowman's-mittens while waiting..... Maybe it will help?

Reje / Shrimp
Since stubbornness is my middle name and because I was just late for the train from Næstved this morning (it was at the platform! Argh!) and had to take the slow train to Copenhagen, I only need to make 3 shrimps and a pink fish for the sushi....
The shrimps have started.

Al min sushi / All my sushi
It had become quite a pile, and actually, I 'only' need to make another 8 maki rolls, 1 (larger) pink fish, 1 red fish and 4 shrimps in order to have all the pieces.
So far, I have a lot of ends to weave in the pieces I already made, but I do hope to get a long way tonight. Hopefully, I will have a lot of time for that! I have a very impatient niece waiting......

Midt i en opvask / While I did the dishes
Just like last year, I'm going on a course in a warm place. I'm so excited! Just like last year, it makes me long for some summer-clothes, which is kind of difficult, this time of the year!
So just like last year, my sewing machine stepped in. I had an idea, and in no time, the floor was filled with fabric. (It looks so nice!) The dishes had to wait, while I cut my way through a pair of old jeans and found the perfect fabric.
It didn't take long, cutting the right length, sewing the edges and make the fabric wrinkle. Actually, my dishwater didn't have time to get cold before the skirt was done!
The skirt is really nice, and I'm so happy with it, that I'm going to wear it at work today......
I would like to sew some more. The fabric is still lying around! Don't know how much time I'll get, though.

Flere striber / More stripes
The blanket is showing some progress. I made it to 9 white stripes, and since it needs 16 white stripes to be done, there is still some way to go. But I guess an evening with Mr. Darcy tomorrow can help a little? Must do the trick....
Maybe I would have made more progress, if not for this guy! On Tuesday, I was visiting a home with a vacation-cat. A really sweet, active and curious cat! The yarn was sooooo interesting......
After doing a very long performance of sniffing and coughing, I chose to go home early. I guess my cats allergy is alive and kicking? Every symptom disappeared while I was on my way home!

Her 2 år senere!
The sushi is coming along. The ends are sewn in and the pieces sewn together when I make them. Otherwise it will be really bad when I finished all the bits! Right now, I'm producing maki-rolls, and the last bits will be the shrimps, and them everything will be connected.
My next scarf-crisis is here already, though. My youngest nephew don't want to be left out, so he ordered a popcorn-scarf!
Before I realize what's going on, I will have made my way through every single pattern! But it was a great gift that I really find useful! After 2 years......
