Garnfarvning / Yarn-dyeing
Half our Saturday went by doing the yarn-dyeing. In all sorts of ways!
We had so much fun, and time just flew by because we had something to do all the time.
For the first time, we dyed yarn in the oven. It was both fun and easy! The baking pan held 2-3 skeins, and we discovered that it worked really well with some water, the desired colors and then covered with foil. After 1-1½ hours in the oven on 150 degrees Fahrenheit, it was done!
We dyed sock-yarn blankets. All the other skeins of yarn had been made wet with water and a bit of vinegar. This didn't, but it worked out anyway. After the dye, it was fixated in the microwaveoven.
We also dyed entire skeins of sock yarn in a pot. It was so much fun! The outer layers were thoroughly dyed and the inner part wasn't dyed that much.
We dyed a lot of skeins on the table, applying the dye with a sponge. It took a while, but turned out pretty. This skein was dyed with one color at the inner rim and another color on the outer rim. Then I sprinkled on a bit of darker color.
We also had skeins wound up into "yarn cakes" that were dyed in the pot. Here, I applied 3 different colors in between the different skeins of yarn.
It was fun and interesting to see how the yarn crept up into the yarn!
I dyed 4 skeins of Arwetta in grey, peach, pink and white, but I wasn't happy at all about how little dye that had come through all the way to the middle.
I morgen får I lov at se resultatet!
Because of this, they spent more time in the pot with some pink dye. That went well!
In total, I dyed almost 1.5 kg of yarn - I really found all my white yarn and a bit more! My 2 friends dyed almost as much, and it is incredible, how happy you feel after a day like this with dyes and yarn!
Tomorrow, you'll see all the results.

Lille julekrybbe / Small nativity set
Yesterday was first Sunday of Advent, and this Thursday is the first of December.
So there really is no way to not starting to get ready for Christmas!
Today's pattern is a very cute little crochet nativity set made with corks.
I've never seen anything like it......

Direkte i afgrunden / Directly into the abyss
Uha-uha-uha-uha-uha.....
Yesterday, we went to the sheep-farmers Christmas market. There was so many amazing things! Compared to when I was there the earlier years, this time there was so much home"bred", plant-dyed yarn in the most amazing colors! I bought lots and lots......
In spite of all my very strong beliefs about NOT learning how to spin, EVER!!!!!!, I completely missed it and came home with not only a drop spindle, but also with the most amazingly colored wool ready for spinning!
Oh my-oh my-oh my-oh my......

Nu skal jeg bare sy / Now I just need to sew
The neck on Amanda is knit AND cast off! It is actually almost like a (seriously slow) miracle!!!!!
Yesterday, I bought pretty metal buttons, so I'll just have to start sewing!
But we need to dye yarn first, you know. Guests who like yarn on the breakfast-table are just the best sort! First we are going to the Christmas market, then Johanne will come, and THEN the nerdiness begins!

Historisk / Historical
I visited my aunt, who became a widow during summer. It was so nice visiting her!
She showed me this teddy bear, wearing a cardigan that my mother knit for my cousin when he was born. So interesting to see!
I remember my mother as someone knitting a little when needed, but since I'm the 3rd child, I guess she had other things to do through my childhood. Before she had kids, I've been told she knitted quite a lot!
I do love the knit/purl pattern. The edges are seed stitch, and I kind of feel like copying this cardigan for the next generation. Could be fun!

Pink
Sock pair number 24 this year are finished. The photo is horrible, but the pattern is with really pretty cables and is called "BFF". They are designed by Cookie A. and both pretty and simple to knit.
Although I have a (half dead) principle of finding new patterns for socks (that are not ribbed), I actually used this pattern before, for my sister. It's SO pretty!
These are for my niece, who actually turns TWENTY here in December! (Honestly, she used to be 3 years old. I don't get it.) I hope she likes them!
They are made using Cascade Heritage Paint on 2.5 mm needles in a very pretty, pink color, and they weigh 85 grams.
I had planned for these socks to be the last socks this year, but my colleague just did something to deserve a pair of knitted socks, and she will just love socks, so I'll continue!

Monster mitts
The small mittens were quickly done. Only took a few days, a train-ride and 40 grams of wollmeise DK to finish them!
I used size 3.5 mm needles, so they're nice and without holes, and then I made the eyes a bit different to make them look crazier. I do think that was a success!
The only demand was for them to be pink. They are dark pink, so I guess that is acceptable. Now they are in the mail, and I'm waiting for her opinion!

Her kommer årets første juleopskrift!
Halspynten finder du her.
Christmas is getting closer. It IS! I started on Christmas music and tea already here in November, since my bitter experiences are telling me that otherwise, I might not get a lot of either.
So here is the first Christmas pattern this year!
They say that cats and knitting belongs together, so of course the cat should not miss a bit of beauty.
The collar can be found right here.

Matador (the tv-serie) is finished. Amanda is NOT! I thought the neckline and the edges would get done yesterday - the troublesome part that I really didn't want to do.
Actually, I felt so little like knitting Amanda last night, that I spent 10 minutes before leaving, just sitting there, letting myself feel intense hate to the poor cardigan.
It woke such strong feelings in me, that I think a psychologist might help? Or it would help if I finish the very last bits......

In 1 week, it starts - an entire weekend with "hygge" and dyeing yarn! No-one can call me unprepared, anyway. I found all my undyed wool and the box of yarn-dye.
I have more than plenty of wool and even enough for sharing!

Lys / Candles
Before my last night of work this week, I made candles. It's been a long while since I did this, but it's perfect for a day at home. Really nice, and not at all difficult.
I've been collecting candle-bits for a while, and melt them in a box dipped in boiling water. (The box is old and always used for this. Quite yucky inside!) The pot of water is on the heat half a day, and then I empty the box and put in new candle-bits when needed.
I have a "real" candle mold that I bought a long time ago, but since it's almost easier making 2 at a time, I also used a milk carton. The wick-string was bought in a craft store. It goes a long way. At the top, it really works well squeezing the wick between a pair of chopsticks that are still connected.
At the bottom, I made a small hole for the wick and tied with a bit of wax to tighten it.
Det fungerer forbløffende godt!I usually fill the casts bit by bit, making the candles striped. To make it look a bit more fancy with oblique stripes, I tip the carton in my sink. Works incredibly well!
And these are the finished candles. The one from the bought cast looks a bit weird with the bump on top, but it won't take long to burn down that bit.
So - of course they are not as pretty as those you buy, but it's fun and cheap, and you'll get extra hours of burning from leftover wax!

Nogen havde tabt en vante / Someone lost a mitten
Little Miss T1 lost one of the mittens she got when she was 5 months old. She is 2.5 by now, so they had begun to be a bit tight.
Her only wish for the new mittens is that they need to be PINK!
So I found a pattern and started. Can't have her freezing, poor thing.....

Projekter / Projects
Tæppet skal have kant.
You probably know this - far too many projects to work on and even more projects waiting!
My oldest niece, who is so good at buying yarn, got a promise for something knitted and picked a Temple Flower. I found some well-hung Portofino in my stash, and I just need to get started.
Amanda needs to get done! I just need to do the neck and the edges, but it feels totally unending!
The blanket needs its border. It is a really slow work with some very long rounds.
My nephew in the US is going to have a sweater. He found a motif, and the rest of it is stocking stitch in white. Great for meetings!
My niece also needs something. She didn't make up her mind yet, but I'll get to her around Christmas, I guess!
And then there are all the little people..... Sometimes, I wish I could call a day off for knitting!

And then there are all the little people..... Sometimes, I wish I could call a day off for knitting!

Prinsesser / Princesses
Hver firkant ny prinsesse. Ih......
You probably noticed - I have a big, soft spot for Disney!
Their view on women's possibilities are hopelessly antique, and I don't think real life was ever as sugary (maybe momentarily?) as in the movies, but still......
You can always dream?
I hope one day to be able to invite the little girls to Disneyland Paris and go all in on dresses and glitter, but they need to grow a bit older first.
Anyway. Today's pattern is for nothing less than a Disney-princess blanket! Every square a new princess. Oh......

En smuk dag / A beautiful day
My week of night-duty has started. Before leaving home yesterday, I recharged my daylight-batteries on a trip into town. There was the most amazing blue sky!
I passed Brorson Church on my walk. It looks like an old castle.
Jeg gik over Assistens Kirkegård.
I passed Assistens Graveyard. I don't come this way a lot, not anymore, but it is a very pretty place. The trees were still full of leaves, and it looked like a beautiful, sunny autumn day.
This time, I saw Peter von Scholten's tomb for the first time. I've seen the back of his mausoleum many times, but didn't know that this was his tomb!
When I was a kid, tv showed a film about him. Very long, with drawings and a speaker telling. Too bad, how little I remember of this. But I do remember the part with freeing the slaves!
På lågen sidder dette relief.
On the gate, this relief is placed.
Even though it was so pretty, it was quite cold as well! The leaves lying in the shadows were frosted. Definitely weather for hat and mittens, and actually time for making the edge on a certain blanket, which is really nice for the couch right now!
To bøger kom med hjem.
In the center of town, I visited the book shop. Even here in Denmark, we have gotten quite a few knitting books! I bought 2. The baby's classic book is really pretty and usable, and the lace book has some quite difficult things. Not bad for a Saturday!

Så fint og forkert / So pretty and wrong
The next pair of socks - maybe the last pair this year? - are on the way. Made with the super-pretty pink Cascade heritage, of which I have a few skeins in my stash. A good thing to have, since it seems to be discontinued. This color is not among the choices at yarn.com, anyway.
The first sock is done, and then I find a mistake! On the leg! How very irritating!!!!!!
But I guess my niece will be able to look at her socks, remembering I make mistakes as well.

Det bliver en lang vinter / In for a long winter
Sådan over frysepunktet.
Danish winter is most often rain, darkness and cold. Above zero degrees celsius. Just wet and black!
This year, however, it looks a bit different. The first snow came this week, and they promised more to come.
I Lund var der også sne! Endda mere sne! Det er herligt at have strikkede vanter osv. klar!
In Lund, snow had come as well! Even more snow! It's great having the knitted mittens and stuff ready!

2 x Yoda
Long time ago - some time during the winter - a former colleague asked if I might knit Yoda-hats for her upcoming twins?
Of course! But it took some time knitting them! The size has it's own story. Took a while to get it right, and now they are kind of big for a pair of 8 months old heads, but better to be a bit big than too small!
They are made with triple "vital" superwash. They are kind of thick, but I guess it's okay with the cold we have! There wasn't enough green yarn, so they are yellow at the bottom, but in the pattern they are 2-colored so that is just fine.
Now I'm excited what mother and babies (and dad and siblings!) think of the hats. They were made on 5 mm needles (4 mm for the ears) and weigh a total of 335 grams.
