During our yarn-dyeing weekend last year, I bought and dyed a grey skein of merino/angora (Second photo from the top). It didn't get dye all over, but got green, turquoise and purple spots and turned out nicely in my opinion. In my mind, it could only turn into a baby cardigan.
Now it did turn into one! An incredibly soft little cardigan in a quite simple pattern. With all those colors, the yarn didn't need too much pattern.
Knapperne sidder denne gang IKKE i drengesiden. Håber, han klarer den.....
The fun thing is that the colors pool symmetrically both on the front and back! It looks pretty, I think. The pattern is this one. I used needles size 3.5 and 4 mm, and I cast on 2 extra stitches under each sleeve and set the decreases a bit more apart.
The weight is (strangely) also 65 grams (is that the standard for baby-cardigans?) and I'm very happy with it. This time, though, the buttons are NOT on the boy's side. I hope he survives.....

Uventet batman / Unexpected batman
Dagens mønster skulle være en Batman-udklædning. Fordi nu er det snart fastelavn.
Men så faldt jeg over denne her!
Today's pattern should be a Batman-costume. Since fastelavn is approaching here in Denmark.
But then I stumbled across this pattern! An Icelandic sweater with Batman! How cool is that?
So hurry out, finding a 5-year old who needs to be warm in the coolest possible way. This sweater is just amazing!

A couple of years back, I did a crochet blanket in many different colors of Kauni. It turned out really pretty and very warm! Apart from the fact that in the end I hated it (of course), I sat there, dreaming of more Kauni-blankets. I thought it would look great in red colors, because I have at least 3 different kinds of red Kauni skeins. This is the red-pink kind which I bought in Estonia a few years back. It is also going in the blanket.
I think it will be beautiful! And I do think it will find a loving home, too.....

When I was going home, it was a bit sad. These weeks were so wonderful! The hospital was connected to a shopping center, and there was a bakery. The last evening, having nothing to do was packing, I just had to taste them! They really WERE good, those cakes. But I guess it was good I didn't taste them before - they tasted like more cakes!
Packing was quite a challenge. I brought an extra bag, but was only allowed 20 kilos in each, so suddenly, even the yarn was heavy!
I got so desperate, I put yarn in one of the vases. But only one of them, since I realized it might not come out again that easily!
Udsigten den sidste morgen var også smuk. Åh, den udsigt! Det var bare så smukt. Gad godt have den med hjem.
The view the last morning was also pretty. Oh, the view! It was so beautiful. I would have loved to bring that view home.
The last day, I was going to the other hospital in the other end of the city. So I had to move my more than 40 kilos of luggage up the stairs to the bus. Apparently, I'm a bit weaker, because first I carried up one bag, then the other.
The wild cats didn't need many seconds to start investigating whether this new bag next to the trash container held any food? My colleague meant that it was a big problem that I left my luggage without surveillance, but it WASN'T without surveillance! And I firmly think these cats look more like they are from the Mossad (Israeli secret service) than being terrorists.....
All my luggage was carried around all day, and everything came home with me. Yesterday, I just enjoyed being at home. Do some shopping, unpacking, doing the laundry - having a tv!
In the evening, I cast on for another little baby cardigan. In the hand-dyed yarn that I think would be perfect for a baby cardigan. I guess it will be finished soon? Today, I need to be a bit more efficient.

Hjemme igen / Back home again
Back home again, I was met by quite an amount of post. I guess from the number of Donald Duck magazines that I will have to mail a package to the US again soon!
I also got some yarn! From my friend in Esbjerg who thought I shouldn't be left out when Jane in Ho had her reconstruction-sale. How sweet is that?
The 2 little baby-cardigans need a wash. They got buttons while in Israel, and now they are weighed. They weigh the same - 65 grams, so I guess I have to do better if this year is to be productive in kilos!
They are really pretty, and next weekend, they will pass on. The one they are meant for should be arriving very soon!
I unpacked these pretty vases/decanters. One is for me, the other for a present. It won't be easy finding out which one that is for whom! (But I do think I'll keep the one with the city.)
When I went to Israel, I thought that it would be no problem knitting an entire sweater for my 17 years old nephew! The suitcase was packed with the chart and all the colors for the front. In real life, the back - the first part - was finished on the airplane home. Like I said. I REALLY need to get going!
All the wonderful cashmere-shawls also got unpacked. I bought a pile! They are SO soft and pretty and great for presents! Might have bought another pile, but since my suitcase was absolutely full, I guess it was good the shop had closed when I came back for more. Last time I bought a lot of these shawls was in Turkey some years back. I used them a lot, gave some away, while other mysteriously disappeared, so I had no doubt this was a great thing to buy in Jerusalem too!
By the way - I'm in for a very nice and quiet Friday. That's good, I guess.

Jerusalem: Garnbutikker II / Yarn shops II
Jerusalem actually has a few more yarn shops! All of them are located quite close together, by the way, if you happen to pass by! The third yarn shop is at 10 King George. I won't try to pronounce the name, but the shop welcomes you already in the entryway! It looks really cozy, although I wouldn't know what the neighbours think....
The shop has yarn in the basement as well. Again - every variation of acrylics, but also some decent cotton. And pretty buttons!
The fourth, and last, yarn shop was one I incidentally saw from the bus. I do think it's located on Agripas, quite close to the Mahane Yehuda market, almost at the corner of Kiach.
THAT is a real craft-shop! They had loads of beads, stuff for painting porcelain and anything you might want to do. They also had stuff stuffed in everywhere.
There was yarn, too! Since I "WANT to knit from itchy wool" (quoting my youngest nephew), I didn't buy this pretty acrylic fur-yarn. But they had a bit of cotton as well.
I did buy something in 3 of the shops. In the second one, City Cellar, I bought pink cotton/bamboo (because pink is a GREAT color!), some blue cotton, green yarn from corn and a skein of the pretty hand-dyed.
In the one in the entryway, I bought some variegated, dark blue cotton that can turn into something good.
Igen i drengefarver!
In the craft-shop, I bought a bit more cotton. Boy's colors once more! You know, there are a couple of baby boys needing hand-knitted clothes. (In a few years, when the yarn has matured in my stash, I'm sure there are more small boys around!)
Buttons don't really count, right? I found some very pretty plastic-buttons in beautiful colors! It is hard to get too many buttons, especially the small, round ones! The ladybird buttons are ALMOST round and just too cute!

Hello Kitty buttons are something you might always need. You just do! I'm looking forward to using them.
And then the 4 weeks in Jerusalem suddenly passed by! I guess you'll see a bit more the next weeks here and there. Thank you for letting me share this with you! It is just the best having a blog and comments.
I'm looking forward to waking up in my own bed tomorrow, and then having a bath WITHOUT having to turn on the water boiler 1 hour before, but I will miss being in Ein Kerem. It has been 4 wonderful weeks!
