Lille Frk.
Little miss T1 will turn 3 very soon. She looooooves Doctor McStuffins, who is treating her sick teddybears (no, I never heard about that show before either!) and named her room "The Clinic".
My dear sister will come to Denmark very soon, and was encouraged (by me) to bring some Doctor McStuffins stuff from the big US to someone who will be over the moon happy! I also discovered that Jo-Ann's has fabric with the very same Doctor, so she is even bringing fabric!
Her var det så, at min plan på en eller anden måde gik galt! For det bliver MIG, der skal sy.....
And this is were my plan somehow went wrong! Because I will be the one sewing......

Værd at fejre / Worth celebrating
During the night, I had my last shift at the hospital, staying in. Being awake most of the night ISN'T my favorite, so of course, I needed to celebrate!
Which is why I brought "flødeboller" made by Spangsberg. A perfect, Danish thing that was immediately loved - even by Swedish nurses! (Oh well. And by me. I had my share!)
The night-work thing has been the single most negative thing about working in Sweden. It will be great being able to sleep a bit more (still at the hospital and with the phone close by, though) and honestly, I hope I'll never have to start over again in this way.
But apart from that - the children's hospital is cozy in the middle of the night, and now I sit here with the last cinnamon bun. I do need a new excuse for cinnamon buns apart from surviving night work!

Dream on
Working in Sweden holds some advantages. For instance, the shops at the railway stations have a nice collection of knitting magazines, and often cheaper compared to Denmark.
Another advantage is how they right now celebrate "spring" (or maybe just to increase the sale in this cold weather?) by not only selling ice cream at 50% off, but having enough of it, so the offer continues after some weeks. Which I enjoyed on the way home one day. Is it possible that the weather can get so cold that you can't eat ice cream?
Novita is a nice knitting magazine. I think it is Finnish, but translated into Swedish. This time, there were several nice things for me to watch while waiting for my projects to get done.
I really like this top - it's straight, but still has the effect of increasing and decreasing on the side panels, making it interesting.
This thing - crochet edgings in the middle of a knitted piece - is SO pretty. Not that I ever used it myself, but maybe some time? I looks airy and beautiful.
Furthermore, there was a knitted princess dress! Brilliant (and warm!) and very simple.

Første ærme / First sleeve
It took me 5 days, but by now, the first sleeve for Ewden is finished. It was quite boring knitting it, but still quite fast.
Oh - I'm so looking forward to this one being finished!

Inspiration

I also bought a few knitting magazines. I do think Drops improved a lot these past few years! And I like getting patterns on paper. What do you think about Drops out there?

Velkommen / Welcome
Disney-characters are cute.
Babies are cute.
Why not combine those two?
Today's pattern is for a crochet Mickey Mouse outfit for a new little citizen of the world.
Maybe it's worth a consideration?

Næste store projekt? / Next big project?
I have big difficulties deciding what kind of knitting to start for me. The sweater-shelf is bursting, so it's not that I need anything. A lot.
Of course, I have sweaters that I don't use very much, and which might be happy to continue their lives some other place, so I'll have to look through them thoroughly....
One thing I could med, is my Bohus-sweater. Bought at Fanø a few years back, and deemed to be a slow project. 2.5 mm needles for adults will always be slow!
It might be this one, since WOW, it is pretty!

Carl og mig / Carl and I
Working in Sweden means long days. There is plenty of work to do, the train ride is a long one, and every day, I have this pathetic hope of getting home "early", which means being able to watch Jimmy Fallon at 6.30 p.m., which in reality happens maybe a couple of times a month....
I do think the blog suffers from this. My life is not generating a lot of creativity and excitement right now with plenty of knitting, but still, I continue writing a little every day. Just because I really like it somehow.
Well. On the daily train rides, I've been sitting next to Carl for the past months. Carl Hamilton. The Swedish version of James Bond. I'm on the 10th of the 13 books, so I have plenty of lovely hours to come before it's over! Audio books are just great for commuting, and wonderful looking forward to, both if I knit or if I'm too tired for knitting.
Once I'm done with the audio books, I'll have to watch the movies. Carl is a wonderful but deadly person, and I would love to get some images as well.......
I still love working in Sweden!

Snart 2 / Almost 2
The front for my nieces sweater is almost done. Oh, it's going to be just great! The Rowan yarn, which is almost a crochet string, is incredibly soft and delicious. It also terribly white. Or creme-colored. It is so pretty, and I'm very afraid to make it dirty. Still, it joins me on the train every day, and I really hope it stays white.....
So far, I'm on the 6th skein of the 11 I need. So far, I think I have enough.
Actually, this sweaters worst opponent is the fact that it's made from "itchy wool". Soft as a peach, but "itchy", since it's not superwash. It will be very interesting whether she will think that this sweater will be itchy.

Anemone
I needed a small project, and since those small people grows like weed, and since little Miss T1's vest is sitting ABOVE the belly button by now (which her mother very specifically pointed out!), I started another Anemone. Using the most pink, easiest to find superwash-treated yarn in my apartment. (What is the use of a gigantic yarn stash, when you don't want to look through everything every time?)
It will take som time, using size 3 mm needles for a size 4 years, but I'm glad summer is coming!

Mad / Food
This Easter, I did an incredible amount of cooking. I actually do believe, that just yesterday, I spent more time cooking than what I normally do in 2 weeks! (Mostly since I get home so late and eat something easy.)
First, I made gluten-free buns, which went surprisingly well. I started off with this (Danish) recipe, used more water and made porridge from the oatmeal, and ended up with something tasting quite okay, and I was rather proud. But like Pippi said: "I've never done this before, so I'm sure I'll make it!"
Then I did the mashed potatoes and filling for Shepherds Pie for the guests I'll have tonight. Everything is ready, waiting on my balcony, since - oh MY - it's gotten cold again!
Oh well, and on Sunday, I did brownies.
The gluten-free buns were for this soup, which is classic. Butternut squash, sweet potatoes, chili, coconut-milk plus some more. This time served as the recipe showed.
Somehow, it has been nice cooking this much, although I am looking forward to many days without this much kitchen-time.....

Tillykke, Dronning / Congratulations, Majesty
I går havde dronningen fødselsdag!
Yesterday was the queen's birthday! She was in Aarhus, I was in Copenhagen, so this year it was a bit difficult seeing her wave to the people. Today, it is kind of too late as well......
Well. But to celebrate (maybe in due time for next year?), today's pattern is a chic little queen's crown. Crochet.

Uvant / Unfamiliar
I am no genius in a kitchen, but the lamb yesterday turned out so delicious and tender! It was too big for my roaster, so I put it in a cooking bag instead. Spiced up with garlic and sage, put in the bag with more garlic, brussel sprouts, carrots and parsnips.
After 5 hours of 120 degrees celsius, it was so tender that I drew out the bone when trying to lift it out from the bag, and my idea of pretty slices was impossible. Because you needed to take a piece of lamb using a spoon! The hardest thing to chew was the rice......
The sweater for my niece grew considerably. The back is actually done, and the front started. I do have big problems with the pattern, though. Knitting size small is so unfamiliar to me, and I keep reading the wrong instructions. I actually had to "tink" twice!
But it is so pretty and soft as a peach. I hope the rest of it knits up as quickly, so she hopefully will be able to use it just a few times before it gets really warm.....

I dag / Today
I aften. Det bliver en dejlig dag.
There are many things I DON'T have to do today. I'm not going to work, and I hardly need to leave my home if I don't want to.
What I AM doing, will be yarn- and knitting related (although no plant-dyeing), I'm going to make lamb in Römertoph and I do hope I'll find som rosemary, so I won't have to use lavender for spicing!
I'll also go to church. Tonight. It will be a lovely day.

Gode kolleger / Great colleagues
This Tuesday, my colleague walked around, putting little post-it notes here and there with encouraging messages. My sweet, fun, tough colleague, who has had more pain in her shoulder after a fall, than I would ever guess, but which she revealed on facebook later that day. Still, she had the energy to give everyone verbal roses, and yesterday, this note still hung in the elevator. "You are pretty when you smile!"
The idea is passed on.

Men hvad.
Finally, I've started the sweater for my 14 year old niece. Quite late, actually, since it's wool and alpaca, and the winter has kind of ended in Ann Arbor. But still. She will have to use it next winter, because I really would like to get this done and removed from my list!
The yarn is some incredibly nice Rowan yarn, bought at Garnkisten, and the pattern is this one.
It is knitting up quite nice and fast, so far, - a christening and a train ride from Jutland helped!
Next winter, though, I think I'll promise to knit less sweaters. This winter really kept me occupied, and I do think they will be able to stay warm for a while.....

Pippi
Today, I would like to celebrate Sweden, considering what happened in Stockholm last Friday.
The very best thing about Sweden, were the stories by Astrid Lindgren. They took up quite a part of my childhood, and the very coolest of the cool was of course Pippi Longstocking. The strongest girl in the world.
So today's pattern is for a Pippi-sweater. Very classical Swedish, and every bit as beautiful today as it was in the 70's.

Jylland & 11
Today, the youngest member of our family will be baptized. His wish list is incredibly practical. Help to get a nice celebration!
Of course, this won't be anything he can look at as he grows up, so apart from the few things I already had for him, I found fabric in my closet and sew a pair of pants. It really didn't take long!
Later, I rode the train across Denmark and then north, and discovered that the sun actually sets a bit later in Jutland compared to Copenhagen. It's amazing that our little country has a time difference!
I got a quick shot of the bridge across Storebælt (great belt), while the train sped past.
On the train with me was this year's eleventh pair of socks. WITH the yarn bowl, since the second sock was stuck in this. I knit all the way there and finished the second sock right before we arrived, which was perfect!
The pattern is Finnish, and I only dared starting these, because there was a chart. I was very impressed with the cable, which is pretty and very different!
The yarn is yummy, hand-dyed BFL sock yarn, bought at Tine's shop. They are made from 2 different skeins, and the shades are a bit different, but I hope it works out. The idea is to use the rest of the yarn for my oldest niece, who is married to the recipient. I have plenty of yarn, since these socks only weigh 80 grams! Made on 2.5 mm needles.
NOW I need a few weeks of sock break! Next victim will be little Miss T1, who will be perfectly happy if the socks are pink. I'll fix that. In a few weeks......

10!
The next pair of socks is done! A nice train ride to Gothenburg yesterday sped up the process, so I started with half a sock in the morning and ended up with 2 socks done in the evening.....
Once more, it's dip dye socks, once more I dug down in my Arwetta-stash, but this time, I had to top up with some Regia silk (the grey part). But I got to use some bright 80's cobalt-blue that looks almost purple on the photo above.
The pattern is really fun, actually. It feels like you can combine the craziest colors and still it will look nice. They work up quickly on 4 mm needles, and I used a total of 130 grams for this socks for my nephew, who turns 25.
So now I need to knit half the foot of a sock, and then hopefully, I can show you a finished pair again tomorrow..... Exciting, huh?

Tivoli & 9
I store mængder!
I Tivoli.
Her er de med en veteranbil!
Tivoli has opened! Just in time for Easter, and for the first time, decorated with Easter eggs. Plenty of them! Yesterday, on the opening day, they had a bit more decoration. The next pair of socks, the 9th pair this year, which got finished. In Tivoli.
Here they are with a veteran car!
There wasn't a crowd of people, and the weather wasn't amazing, so I don't think too many people noted the crazy lady taking pictures of socks.
Here they are with Pelle the Pelican. The pattern is inspired by Mads Nørgaard sweaters, and I didn't have a finished pattern. But I do think they turned out well.
Again this year, there were hyacinths in pretty colors, and in general, it was just beautiful. But socks always look decorative, right?

Fimo
My old name-tag wasn't doing too good - Olaf lost his nose, one arm and his hair, and he looked kind of miserable!
So I bought fimo-clay and started working, and I'm quite happy with my very first sign, I need to say. Okay - he looks a bit fat, since I had to press him together to make room for him AND his hair on the sign, but he sure looks like Olaf!
I can't wait to bring him to work.
(By the way - in case anyone wonders - I will NOT start a production!)
