Offwhite

I'm knitting all I can on the shrimps! The socks look really beautiful, and I did hope that I would have enough of the offwhite yarn. Especially since I did not get to the Malmö yarn shop in time.
What I had left is the top skein. Not at all enough!
But fortunately I found some more when I looked more thoroughly in my sock yarn stash. You know - that was really lucky!
I do love my sock yarn boxes so much......

Farlige ting / Dangerous stuff

Det hæklede skateboard finder du her

I do like watching the Olympics. Like with the winter sports, I like watching sports where I would die almost immediately if I tried. The ones where you can break some body part. So this week's discipline is skateboard! Oh wow, there are so many ways to fall and hurt yourself! The crochet skateboard can be found here

Lillebitte / Teeny tiny

When I was on vacation with the Frikke-family, I found this in a book store (and anything else store. Small city!) and bought one for me and one for my sister.
A teeny tiny glass bowl with a tiny amount of dirt and some microscopic seeds from a cactus. When I got home, I planted them. Without hoping that it would ever become anything.

But now look at this! A teeny tiny sprout! The tape is going off the hole when the sprout is one week. I don't know how long it's been there - I just saw it today!
So exciting! Will it survive and grow?

Strik og arbejde / Knitting and work

This week, I've had some knitting mixed into my work. On Thursday, we were visiting a patient at home in Ystad, which meant an hours drive there and back which meant a lot of lovely knitting time for me! The are some good things about not having a drivers license....
My knitting bag found a place in one of the boxes for our patient. Very practical!
I really like that we some times, when it's really needed, can find the time to go on a home visit to a patient who really needs it!
Men ak.

Yesterday, I actually left work almost on time because I wanted to visit a yarn shop to find some more offwhite yarn for the shrimp-socks.
I did found a yarn shop and managed to get there about 5 minutes before closing hour.
But alas. It was closed already! I guess I just have to see how much yarn I have left and if I might be able to find a bit in my boxes. Otherwise I will have to take the same trip some time next week. I guess it will work out somehow?

16

My eldest nephew had his birthday last week. He had a small wish for his socks - a few years back he got Japanese socks were the big toe and the other toes are split, and that was quite an easy wish to fulfill!
He will get socks in Zauberball, plain stockinette stitch with the special toes. It does look fun, right? I used 70 grams of yarn.

Starten på en reje / The beginning of a shrimp

My niece's birthday is this Saturday. She is having her party next Sunday, so with a bit of luck that leaves me with about a week and a half to finish!
The shrimps of the first sock are done, and right now I'm knitting jog-less stripes. It is kind of slow and difficult, but it will look very nice!
Cheer me onwards......

Velkommen! / Welcome!

Min nevø skal have sit første barn i dag.

My nephew is having his first baby today. I've been planning to sew a duvet-cover for the baby in some beautiful, African fabric, but only now, with the baby on the way out, did I sew it.
I figured that it would look really nice with ties in the same fabric. Pretty, right?
They were so narrow that it took an ENTIRE evening to turn the right side out. Stupid idea!

But it got done, and it's really pretty! There wasn't a whole lot of this fabric, but I do think it's used in the very best way.
Welcome to our world, little guy!

Stop!

I really DON'T like snails! They eat almost anything in my garden, and while I was quite sentimental in the beginning, now I just have to take a look at my well-chewed plants to remember my feelings towards them. So - if this potholder can be hung in the garden and be a warning against snails, I'll gladly knit it. The pattern is this one

My youngest niece's birthday is coming up - in 6 days, actually! - and as usual she has some very specific thoughts about her birthday socks.
She want socks with shrimps. So yesterday I looked through my sock yarn and found anything that had just a little bit of shrimp-color! I wasn't happy with them, though.
Det er præcis de her strømper hun gerne vil have, og de er jo sådan orange-fersken-lyserøde. Ikke så nemt, vel?

These are the socks she would like, and they are kind of orange-peach-pink. Not that easy a color, right?

So it was Saturday and I was off from work. But still I didn't manage to visit a yarn store until 10 minutes before closing time, and the only yarn I found that looked just remotely like a shrimp was this. Not good enough.

To remind myself of the right color, I bought these. And ate them. They were delicious!

Afterwards, I took two tries of dyeing in a pot. First the pink yarn, then some white yarn from my basement. Unfortunately, it looks more like a lobster than a shrimp. (And my trip to the yarn store was totally unnecessary now that I dyed it anyway!!!!)
Så nu gør jeg et sidste forsøg. Ellers må hun få hummerfarven. Hun vil sikkert hellere have den end lyserøde strømper. Wish me luck!

So now I'll do a last try. Or else it will be the lobster-color. I'm sure she would prefer that one over pink socks. Wish me luck!

Weekend!

It's the weekend! And although it's vacation time mening more people off from work and more on-call weekends, I'm totally off from work this weekend! I have been looking forward to this!
There will be time to eat breakfast outside and fix some stuff. For instance I have to find shrimp-colored yarn today.....
The flowers on the picture were outside the public swimming pool where I went this morning. I rarely feel like doing it, but I'm always happy I did swim afterwards.
Do you have plans for the weekend? What are you planning to knit?

Timber Tina's Great Maine Lumberjack Show

The last evening in Maine was used for something quite unusual. We lived quite close to Timber Tina's show, and of COURSE we had to watch it!
Even the dog was allowed to come, so we had no excuses!

The show is simply showing what lumberjacks can do and a competition in their classic disciplines. The audience each got a team to cheer on, and even Daisy understood that she had to bark for the red team (our team).
It was so much fun!!!!!!

They chopped and sawed tree trunks and battled in who could climb the trunk most quickly.
They were really fast!

The kids could also go on stage to try the big saw, and I've never seen such a long line of kids running to the front that quick! All of them had a diploma.

The last discipline was log rolling. I'm not sure how they did this, to be honest, but everybody survived. Very wet, though.
I'm not really sure who won. I guess it was the green team. Not ours. But this was seriously so much fun!
Apparently they even have world championships in all these disciplines that you can follow on Facebook when it's time. Maybe it's worth watching?

80 % (ish)

My summertop now has finished upper parts of both the front and the back. I managed to have the colors match quite well on both pieces, and I'm very happy about that!
I had 5 skeins in the beginning, now I have 1 full skein and 2 bits of a skein. It should be enough for the neck and the lower part ribbing. I do think I have to weigh the skein so I will not use too much on one piece. Last time I knit it, it went really well, so I'm hoping for that again. When I get that far, that is....

Helt anderledes / Totally different

My vacation is over and I'm back home. After a totally different week in a national park! I hadn't guessed that we were going out on trails and in the beginning I wasn't that happy. (I'm sorry, Henriette!) But as the days went by, it crept under my skin, and it was so breathtakingly beautiful!
This photo is from Thursday when it was raining, but in the evening we rode the car around the park and saw so many beautiful spots. I do think this is from somewhere near Otter Cliff. So pretty with the fog in the trees!
Men sagde nej tak!

On Friday, our last day, it did not rain. The young ones were climbing the "Beehive Trail" where they really needed to climb, and us older ones took another trail to the top to see this beautiful Bowl Pond. So pretty with the frogs quacking!
Once we got back down, I had the offer of finding a café and a croissant. But said no thanks!

Instead I went with my brother-in-law and nephew on a very last hike. Can you imagine? I would never have guessed that when I arrived on Sunday!
It was somewhat harder than the first one, and the dog and I survived partly due to the blueberries. There were a lot of them!

But the trip was SO much worth it! This is a "bubble" on Bubble Rock. Incredible how it can hang over the edge without falling down!
We saw SO many cliffs, and it was incredibly beautiful. I do think I would like to go back, although there would be a real danger of more hikes.....
Or maybe I should go up somewhere in Sweden? I heard there are places like this!
There will be more photos from the US, I'm afraid......

Nervepirrende / Nerve-wrecking

Today's pattern is a coaster with Stars and Stripes. Just because - you know - WHAT will happen with the American election? It's totally impossible to imagine what is happening before the election or who the winner will be. A few days ago I thought the biggest problem was the Biden stubbornly refuses to step down as the candidate. Then came the attack on Trump. Well. At least this is something to place your glass on when you need a bit of wine. It's needed sometimes! The pattern is this one

Hvordan gik det med at strikke? / So how did the knitting go?

I mørket.

I can hear your minds wondering about this. But it turned out that I had to re-do the neck 3-4 times and spent a lot of time on that. So I never got as far as I hoped and planned.
The socks came out to the campfire for some evening-knitting in the dark. Bad idea!
Så I went home with these sorry results. But the vacation was wonderful. Honestly! Even though I didn't knit as much as I thought I would!!!!!

Stof og garn / Fabric and yarn

Of course you need to see what I bought! Not a lot of yarn this time, and only cotton. I bought Sugar'n'Cream from JoAnn (for a towel, I think), and from the nice yarn shop in New York I bought 2 skeins of pretty, hand-dyed cotton. The book is a pattern for a very pretty crochet blanket. It started out as a KAL and turned into a book.

But I bought a lot of FABRIC!!!!! Parrot-fabric from JoAnn (I checked it out beforehand) and two different kinds for shirts for my nephew. He picked the one with notes, and then his sister suggested that he should have one with the colors from the college he will go to soon. As a surprise.....
Then all the pretty, African fabric from New York, and here from Maine both fabric with the national parks and a bit of blueberry fabric. I couldn't leave it...... Will be fun to see what this ends up as!

Bar Harbor

After 3 days of hiking (though the first days were not that difficult as the last day on Mt. Cadillac!) I really needed to go into town and just walk around as I felt like. I would like to walk out to the little island, Bar Island, and I thought there would be a bridge going out there. There wasn't! You could walk out there on a passage of sand at low tide, which was exactly the case when I arrived. So that was my first activity. It looked like this - it's hard to imagine this NOT being a passage, right?

At the tiny island, I was met by this sign as the first thing. In case I didn't go back in time, I would get caught at the island for 9 hours!
Fortunately, there was time to walk to the top of the island to see the view and then go back without problems.

The next thing I did (after looking around in some of the PLENTY tourist shops!), was visiting this really nice and quite big book shop. It was so nice looking at all the books and stuff in there, just taking my time!
Afterwards, I had a lovely ice cream while continuing.

My next stop was also something I found on a map - it was such a pretty library! I had the best time charging my phone while looking through a lot of beautiful knitting books that I'd never seen before. Some of them would have fit well in my private library, but of course they had to stay......
Just look at how pretty it was!

Afterwards, I crossed the street and took a look in the beautiful Episcopal church with beatiful glass paintings.

The last, planned stop in the city was this shop where I thought there would be yarn. Technically, they had yarn, but nothing that I would ever spend money buying. But then they had the most awesome FABRIC! All the blue fabrics on top of the table were with blueberry-pattern. I do think they had around 10 different prints! So crazy!
So I bought something in there, although it wasn't yarn.......

My lunch was SO healthy! A really yummy, vegan sallad.
After that, my time around the town was running out, but I'd seen all I wanted and was ready to go back.

Before I met up with the car, I had time to go back to the water and the passage to the island. You wouldn't believe this was the same place, right?
It was such a lovely day in Bar Harbor - a town I had no idea existed just a few weeks back!

Cadillac Mountain

In Acadia National Park, the highest peak is Cadillac Mountain. It's "only" 1530 feet tall, so when my sister suggested that we climbed it, I had to consider it a bit, but you know - 1530 feet does not sound too difficult, right? So we did!
We went up on the North trail, the medium-difficult trail. We did not believe it would be superhard, but oh my for a climb! The dog was not with us, but had her own hike with my brother-in-law. My nephew and niece were in front and started by saying that this was a "good" hike.

The view was really pretty going up. You had to stand still to see it, because when walking, we had to check were to put our feet all the time. It was really going uphill, so although it was just a 2.2 mile walk, it took some time!
It was hard to imagine going down the same trail, but fortunately, my sister's knees are not fit for climbing down, so already on the way up, the plan was for her and I to take the South trail down. It should be a bit easier.

At the summit we had ice cream! Never has an ice cream been SO GOOD! There were plenty of people up there who came by car. It felt like cheating when we stood there being so sweaty!

The view up there was amazing! It is popular to see the sunrise from up there, but to see that you need to get up at 3 a.m. and climb it in the dark, not knowing if you get to the summit in the fog. There is a lot of fog up there! We started our climb around 8 a.m.
Gys!

Well. So our "easier" way down by the South trail started like this. Climbing down a rock. Yikes!

The route is around 3.4 miles, mostly over rocks with the trail being marked by blue spots and by these stone piles. We walked down around 11 a.m. when it was pretty warm already, and we felt sorry for all the people on their way up - partly because they were going up (and down) in the heat, partly because we knew they had to climb the rock we just climbed down.
It was SO lovely seeing the car (and the kids) again! NOBODY needed any more hikes that day.

At the summit, I bought a hoodie. I will wear it proudly! I am so proud that I got both up and down. It was quite hard, actually. I will never become a mountain-climber.......
