Engang. Op ad dagen. Der mangler jo en lille status!
Tonight we'll wave goodbye at 2012. A wonderful year, filled with exciting adventures, surprises and sorrow when my mother died. I really enjoyed going to China, visiting family, get back at Rigshospitalet and especially this blog.
I know that I don't have to write a post every single day, but I really like it..... And I just LOVE all your nice comments! I'm also aware that these are virtual friendships, but it definitely led to a lot of wonderful things and real friendships in the real world out there!
I want to thank you all for this. I can't wait to continue in the same way in 2013!
Today has been a slow day. I've been knitting and watching tv, hoping that the shawl would get done this year by some kind of magic. Well. It won't. Hopefully it will finish next year! (Just need 9 more rows to go.)
Wherever you will celebrate New Year tonight, I hope you'll have a wonderful party. We'll talk again tomorrow. At some time. Late in the day. I need to make a 2012 status!

Sidste øjeblik / Last minute
I'll have visitors in an hour. I asked them to come, but still - the last days have been filled with work and traveling and a shawl to knit, and I didn't really spend every available minute on tidying up.
On the other hand - it won't take long to make my apartment look fairly okay, and they will come to visit me, not to check the cleaning. It's going to be nice!
I just happened to think of biscuit-cake. It's a Christmas thing. Fortunately it's quick to make - now I just hope it will be cold enough before they arrive!

Ikke bare øreringe / Not just earrings
There were other gifts for me with a more knitting-related content, and I want to show them to you.
Starting from the left, going clock-wise, it's a skein of silk garden sock and 2 cookie containers with a knitted pattern from my friend in Esbjerg (actually they are from her teenage-son, but do we really believe he bought this?). I also had a shawl pin, but it's not on the picture.
The new book by Lene Holme Samsøe also fell in my basket. There are several really nice models! My 18 year old nice told me that she will need to look through it again before I'm knitting something for her.....
From my friend in Sønderborg I not only had the beautiful clutch (made from coffee bags. Still smells a tiny bit of coffee, which I love!), but even a set of the new carbon needles from Knitpro! I can't wait to try those!
Finally, in the center, lies my yarn-ball-candles. I have 4 by now, so I guess I can manage burning one of them soon......
How about you - did you get any knitting stuff?

Hygge
After a few days off comes a few days work. I guess we are several people sharing this fate, even at Christmas time?
The good thing is that I'm at home a few evenings - how on earth was I ever supposed to finish the shawl if I didn't have time at home!
And how would I ever have time for enjoying my Christmas tree with all the candles lit? I do think it's ever so pretty. Weird ornaments or not. As long as you add some bling, it will look good.
The shawl is as far as the beginning of the border. It's so soft and yummy! I still need to knit around 40 more rows of lace pattern, so I guess this will ensure me a few more hours of entertainment.
Do you know the most crazy thing? I got this far using less than a 25 grams skein of cashmere lace. This yarn goes far!

Som fjer / Feather-like
The shawl is growing. It's so pretty and light and soft! Yesterday, after knitting all day, I counted the stitches and found a difference of 3 stitches between the 2 halves, instead of the 1 stitch difference there was supposed to be..... There were 2 mistakes. On one of the sides I made 1 less increase than the pattern said, and the other side had an extra stitch. I have no idea of the origin of this....
I hated unraveling, but now it's growing again. I ended up with a mistake on purpose by not making an increase on the side with a stitch in surplus. You'll never see it...

Næste dag / The next day
After a wonderful Christmas Eve on which I tried walking around the tree in the company of a dog for the very first time, I just passed this funny house.
I'm knitting the shawl on my way to Northern Jutland - looks like it will be beautiful!
This year I had so many amazing gifts that I will show you some other time. I had yarn (made from wool and some made from candle wax), music, patterns and some really funny earrings.
Happy Christmas Day to all of you!

Glædelig jul / Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas all of you! The link is for a very nice video (in Danish) about Christmas, if facebook had been been invented back then.
Furthermore I just HAD to show you what was in my advent calendar today! I wore them while doing rounds, and one of the patients (a 2 months old baby) was very fascinated. It's been a great calendar!

Ny pynt / New ornaments
Elvis-hunden var den første på juletræet.
The Elvis-dog was the first one to get on the tree.
Der er også kommet en lille julepostkasse. Sød, ikke?
There is also a little Christmas postbox. Cute, right?
Så er der nogle ting fra Kina. Et kors.
Then there are some things from China. A cross.

Dagen før dagen / The day before
Tomorrow is Christmas! Today they promised a snowstorm, but this time I'll just sit inside, looking out. I've been to church, did my shopping and bought a Christmas tree, and apart from the frozen laundry that I have to go outside to get, I won't have to go outside for the rest of the day. I can do whatever I want. (Including a bit of ironing and a lot of knitting. And decorating the tree, of course.....) I will make shrimp and peach soup tonight, and the tv shows Lassie!
All the presents are bought, so the snow and Christmas Eve can come as they please. I'm ready!

Jeg giver op / I give up
Men vil I hjælpe mig?
Even though I haven't gotten very far, I have to realize that it's not wise to design and knit a shawl in just a few weeks. I can see by now that you need a very good imagination to recognize all the holes as stars.
And so it will be a pattern designed by someone else. The important thing is that it will be a pretty shawl, making my old director very happy!
But can you help me? I tried limiting the choice to 4 different pretty options, but have a hard time making up my mind......
The first is a Flukra. A shetland hap with a garterstitch triangle. Pretty and simple and nice and warm for the neck and shoulders.
The second choice is an Icelandic shawl, Hyrna. I really find this very exquisite and elegant. Really my favorite, apart from all the holes on top. How warm will it be for neck and shoulders?
Nummer 3 er Tiong Bahru. Også meget, meget elegant. Kanten ser nærmest hæklet ud!
The third one is Tiong Bahru. Also extremely elegant! The edge looks like it's crocheted.
Og endelig nummer 4, Wing It sjalet. Interessant facon og flot mønster.
Hvad skal jeg vælge?
And finally number 4, the Wing It shawl. Interesting shape and a pretty pattern.
What to choose?

Min kære søster / My dear sister
My sister and I have this thing about decorations for the tree. The other sister's tree......
Last year she bought me a pretty glass steak, that I put on the tree. Looked okay. But this year she outdid herself! As you can see, Elvis didn't live for nothing......
I wasn't sure what to think, except that the little glass postbox I bought for her just wouldn't be enough!
So that's why I spent part of the evening knitting a tiny little sock for their tree (or whatever tree they're going to be dancing around.....). But it's like a bit too cute, don't you think?

Hjernevask og idéer / Brain-wash and ideas
Yesterday I picked up my sister's kids and brought them home for a couple of hours. We had such a nice time! The reason was that their parents needed to go Christmas-gift shopping, and this mission went well.
The kids were very happy. All of them talked constantly and at once, so even though I really tried, I'm not sure I heard everything ;-)
I'm not really sure of whether they acquire woolen brains when they come here, but they ended up wanting to use my yarn ball-winder all of them and took turns in making nice yarn-cakes. My youngest nephew brought home "his" yarn (and then I can work on "his" knitting project every time I visit!), while the 2 big kids found each a skein of wollmeise sock yarn with pretty colors. (I'm also not quite sure whether it means I have to knit them socks in these colors! Don't dare asking......)
The yarn in front was a ball I made. It is pure luxury! Hands-spun camel, a very generous gift from Susse when she send me hats for Cuba a few years back. Now I found the perfect pattern! The yarn that is soooooo soft that you would find butter itchy after touching this, will become this pretty neck-thing. I do think the yarn and this pattern will be perfect for each other, and my neck will be so lovely warm this winter!
I'd better finish the shawl first, though......

Start!
A few hours at home and a train-ride gave me the time to make the star-pattern this Sunday. And now I even started the actual knitting of the shawl! The first 2 stars are done. The yarn is very, very soft and just plain delicious and extremely thin. It's pure cashmere, and really is supposed to be soft and yummy!
I have a lot of knitting to do before January 5th when the shawl is to be wrapped and given away, but so far I'm hopeful of being able to do it.

Til træet / For the tree
Mønsteret er her.
Christmas is upon us very soon! Did you knit everything? Also something for the tree? If not, there is no reason for despair. Today's patterns are really fast and easy, and I bet you can make more than one.... The are tiny, but give a lot of joy!
The first pattern is something that really should be on every knitter's Christmas tree. Did you ever see anything as cute as this yarn basket? I thought not.
The second pattern is sniffing through your stash. Didn't you buy a skein or two of sock yarn over the years? Or don't you have some sock yarn left over from a pair of socks? (I KNOW YOU DO!!!!)
The tiny owls won't take much yarn. They are really easy to make in all different stripes and colors and very cute!

Kommende stjerne / Upcoming star
Yesterday my choir held the very last Christmas concert. Tonight we will have a farewell-dinner, and then it's finished. The director is retiring and the choir will cease to exist. The concert was as always - wonderful! The children's choir sang as well - but it was still very sad, even though I believe that it will be really bad in the new year when we are not starting rehearsal again.
Our director can celebrate her 70th birthday in the beginning of the new year, and I would really, really love to make her a very pretty shawl. A shawl with a pattern that tells a story of some of the songs and big things we did over the years. I don't have a lot of time (it's not one of my strong sides, making sure to start early and have plenty of time!), so I figured I'd better get started.
I haven't been able to find any other shawls like this, so I had to find out exactly what to do. But now I have an idea! I guess it will be highly influenced by Christmas, but since it's going to be a black shawl, I hope it will be useful all year.
The shawl will be a triangle, started from the top. For the first bit I want to make stars. Six-pointed stars. I'm practicing, but I think I'm almost there. This picture is the second-last (I hope!) try on 2 different stars.
But this is really something I have to work on! I have to make swatches and a chart and all kinds of troublesome stuff! I'm glad it's a shawl, because gauge will not be important. And I guess I know what I'll be knitting all the way through Christmas......

Plisk plask / Splish splash
My guests had a really nice time last night and stayed quite late. It got so late that my niece slept over instead of using 3 hours for transportation.
When I woke up this morning the light was turned on and I heard that she was awake. Then I heard some splashing sounds and figured she was taking a bath.
The splashing was kind of slow and went on and on and on.
Took me a while to find out that it wasn't a very long, slow shower, but actually the snow melting!

Man kunne f.eks. bruge denne opskrift.
Og SÅ må det være weekend.
Tonight my brothers children plus a few extra will come for "æbleskiver", "gløgg" and "hygge". We are also going to play Super Mario (lots of "hygge" comes with playing Super Mario!) - and I hope I will be able to crochet a little.
We need homemade æbleskiver, of course. They are just a million times better than the store-bought ones......
And THEN it's finally weekend!

Præmie! / Prize!
I snevejr. Dagen efter. (Og det er lækkert!)
TAK til både Charlotte og Ellen!
About a week ago I won a gift in Charlotte's advent calendar.
Two skeins of Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino (also known as KPPPM)!
The prize was sponsored by Ellen, and I had to call her and tell her what color I wanted. In the end, however, Ellen called me because I was so slow. Is that just the best service or what!
On top of this, the yarn was delivered by bike. In the snow. The very next day. (And it's really soft and good-looking!)
THANK YOU, Charlotte and Ellen!
