Strømperne til min nevø er færdige! Han har fået dem og er tilfreds.
The socks for my nephew are done! He had them and is happy with them.
Totalt modsat i farverne!
They are very large, knitted with size 2.5 mm of a total of 130 grams of wollmeise twin in a dark green and a black guinea pig color. Here they are on my legs. Totally opposite colors!
The weird thing is that the colors look different on every picture. Strange!
The pattern was really fun to knit, and I do think I would make them again. In a bit more crazy colors for one of my nieces, who also has her birthday during fall.

Besøg / Visit
Ind imellem tager jeg til Odense. For at besøge venner.
F.eks. disse to søde kaniner.
Sometimes I go to Odense. To see friends. Sometimes to see my dentist (if you have a good one, you'd better stick to that dentist!). Sometimes just because......
This Tuesday was a combo. First my dentist, then good friends. Among other things, I owed them some Easter eggs that I hadn't given them yet, so it was very important seeing them, although it would be short!
I arrived earlier than the ones I was visiting, so I had time to say hello to other parts of their big family. For instance these two cute rabbits. The grey was incredibly hungry, but after 10 minutes of constant dandelion-feeding, I succeeded in making it tired and full!
I also met these. Not VERY interested in contact, since I didn't bring any food. Sometimes I think that a bag of wool from one of these would make an awful lot of yarn. Probably very scratchy. But there is a spinning-factory that will do it, right? Sometimes I dream......
My friends arrived back home, and we had a lovely time. We ended up among the blackberries and picked a lot. That I got to bring home!
So now my house-mum-genes took over..... As you can see, there is plenty of marmalade in 3 different flavors. But oh, so delicious! (And great for presents.....)

Fred & George, 2
There will be 2 whole socks very soon. Pretty lucky, since they are to be given away during the weekend! I still need to make a black foot, but I think I'll make it.
Even though the colors are less intense than what was chosen for the pattern, I do think they will end up looking funny. The pattern is really nice. Things are happening, but it is also easily memorized. I really recommend it!

Huen / Hat
My reluctantly knitting nephew came by this Sunday and did "phase 3", thereby finishing the hat.
He knitted the two sides together on top while casting off, he did the tassels, sewed in the ends and (almost) learned how to cast on.
I think he is really, really good, of course, and that the hat is beautifully done. He made it in just 4 weeks, and it is the first thing he ever knitted.
It is also the very first thing made from the thicker wollmeise DK here at my home, and I must say it's really nice.....
Selv. Til hendes mors store skræk!
He will bring the hat and give it to his girlfriend next week. She has been warned that it "looks funny", and he really didn't calculate on finishing it so soon.....
The only worry? His cousin, my 11 year old niece, wants to knit one like this. Herself. Her mother is horrified!

Heart-breaking elephant news
Maybe you've seen it already. Maybe it's not the kind of hat you see every day in a Danish landscape, but really. Now fall is coming, the apples are ripe and delicious, and this apple-hat is the cutest.
Shouldn't we just start a new trend for little kids?

Mirabelle
Tak for alle jeres kommentarer i går.
Thank you for the comments yesterday. The pillow was happily accepted, and was adopted by the daughter of the house right away. She is 6 years old, and the pillow is perfect for her to sit on.
It measures around 55x55x30 cm, making it pretty big.
The gift was given in the new summer house. It was so nice! Since I had plans today, it was a short visit, but I brought something home.
There were mirabelle-plums behind the house, and I was free to take some. I found a big that didn't look too big and thought I might as well fill it.
It ended up half filled, but there was PLENTY! All evening I was making marmalade. Partly pure mirabelle, partly mirabelle and apple. Ended up with 3-4 liters of marmalade that tastes heavenly. Maybe I'll have to make pancakes today just to celebrate it..... I guess today's visitors will like this as well. My nephew comes to start "phase 3", and his cousin (my youngest niece) comes just to hang out and relax.

Gave / Gift
Since the gift has been given, I can show you , what the 4 strips were for. They all needed to be sewed together (in lots of places. Actually all sides were sewn!), which I spent an evening doing while watching a nature-show on the jungle of South America. During the night. Quite interesting!
Afterwards, it needed felting.
When the felting was right, it was stuffed with 7 IKEA-pillows (they are 20x20"), the opening was sewn and the pillow pressed in shape, sort of, by sewing buttons on both sides. I bought a mighty long needle in a craft-shop - they were called doll's needles, funnily enough! - and this was pretty easy. Afterwards it dried for a few days.
The pillow is for my long-time friend who bought a summer house and would like some floor pillows, I was told. And that is what she got.
The result is much better than I imagined when looking at the strips! It has the right size and doesn't sink to much when used. The pattern is from a pattern-book by Sandnes, called number 32, "toving". Since I used thinner yarn, the pillow is smaller.

Fred & George
The other day I stumble across this pattern collection at Frau Putz's. It didn't take many moments for me to decide that I needed this one. Especially since these pretty socks are in it!
They are called Fred and George, like the Weasley twins, and they are pretty fun, don't you think?
My nephew who is 13 will turn 14 very soon, and there is no way he will get around having these socks. He did get to choose the colors himself, though, and even though his taste of colors is a bit more conservative, I'm sure they'll turn out nice enough!

Hvad Kærlighed kan gøre..... / What Love can do.....
Kan I huske ham her?
Endda ret hurtigt.
Do you remember this guy? My 21 year old nephew who had fallen so much in love that he had agreed to learn how to knit, because of a lost bet.
That is a very hard fall, my friends. He is the one who NEVER wanted to start knitting!
A few days ago, he send me this picture. He is through "Phase 2" of the hat and ready for "Phase 3" (just sounds more masculine if you call it phases).
Isn't he just cool? And a genius at knitting, even though this is his first project. Ever.
Now we just need to cast off and decorate the hat, and it will be done! Pretty fast.

Stilhed / Silence
A very long time ago, while my oldest niece was visiting, she bought some wollmeise lacegarn from me for a gift. Quite some time later, when she was visiting again, she asked me "Do you remember the yarn in the perfect blue shade?" I didn't, but after finding all (ALL) my lacegarn, we discovered this particular skein.
She still loved the shade very much, so I have been thinking about making her something with this exact yarn.
Now I started the project. I needed something to knit while reading articles, and I'm a bit tired of making socks......
It will turn into this: "Silence" by Annette Danielsen. A pretty pattern that we saw "live" in a yarn shop in Århus. I just need to buy a skein of dark blue alpaca, but I still have 26 cm to go before I need it, so I guess I'll have time......
By the way - caught a major cold. I hate it! So annoying during the night. Tonight I'll have a rum-toddy!

3 x 4
Uh. Spændende!
The 4 strips are done. In total, I used 6 skeins of Cascade 220, and I'm quite satisfied with the result, although it was extremely boring knitting them.....
What they will become is not easily explained, but at some point I'll show you the result.
Oh. Exciting!

It wasn't very bad starting work again yesterday. The reason why my vacation was a day shorter, was the yearly outpatient clinic meeting. Usually it takes a full day, and the first hours are about discussing how to do our work the best way. Afterwards there is a program just for fun, and then dinner in the evening. The purpose is to make sure we work well together.
Yesterday we went to the Zoo. It has been so many years since I was there last time! In spite of the Zoo being very close to were I live, I haven't visited since my youngest nephew was in a stroller. And it is 5-6 years ago.....
I learned that ice bears have the cutest feet. EVER! Oh man, I would really love to massage this teddy's toes!
They had lion cubs! Also totally cute, and in 2 different sizes.
On the way through the Zoo, we were divided in teams and had a contest. Really fun way going to the Zoo! We wanted to win, of course, so my team started by looking at how many answers we had straight away, and how many answers we needed to search for.
Dejlig dag.
That proved a good strategy. Every answer led to a letter, and the letters were to be put together for the solution. When we had a good part of the letters, we guessed for the solution. And WON!
The prize was this little sun-cell driven, dancing flower.
Nice day.

Esme top
In spite of the sun shining and Tivoli celebrating its birthday, I still used my last vacation-day on sewing. ALL day.
I bought a pattern on the internet, from the US. Don't remember exactly how I found it, but it was probably by reading a blog. I read somewhere else, that the sizes were big, and chose a size smaller than what I really thought I would need.
Since I've learned that a wise tailor will test a pattern by sewing it in something cheap, and since I wasn't too happy about my top the day before, I started with finding some fabric that I wasn't too happy about. The color was a bit odd and such......
Nok snarere Rowan. Men meget fint!
But to my big surprise, the brown top turned out really well! Even in spite of me not reading the pattern properly (why waste your time reading patterns?) and therefore not noticing that seam allowances were included in the pattern pieces, so I had - very neatly! - cut out the pieces with extra seam allowance. The top is a bit wide at the neck, but otherwise I just LOVE it! (I wore it straight away. Must be a good sign!)
The "real" stuff has been brewing in my stash for a few years. I bought it in John Lewis in London, and even though I've been sure it was Liberty, I found out today that it isn't. It is more like Rowan. But very luxury!
Actually, there were 3 different fabrics, but only 2 of them made it to the top. Maybe it is a bit colorful, but I love it! This time I cut the fabric according to the pattern, and the top is perfect. The sleeves are just the right length, the body is nice and long, and the detail with the bib on the front is nice. The color is just right.......
By the way, I ended up choosing a fifth kind of buttons, found in my button-box. They look nice for this top, I think, and right now I can't wait wearing it at work today!

For some reasons I always feel it is ever so difficult and slow to sew something. So for a few years I've had the pattern and fabric for a summer-top lying around waiting without sewing it. Actually, I found it and put it somewhere obvious during the spring, but didn't take the sewing machine out until now.
The fact is that it's really quick and nice to sew. You can see the results within a few hours! Still I felt like having to write an essay. Did this and that until I finally got started.
Faktisk kunne den godt have været 2 numre mindre.
And here it is! Pretty, right? The pattern is from a magazine a few years back. Didn't take me long, once I got started.
What size to choose is really difficult. I looked at the size-table and decided that it should probably be the largest size. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know how the pattern actually is compared to the table. So it is quite big enough! Actually, it would have been better if I had chosen to make 2 sizes smaller.
On the back I sewed some elastic to make it just a bit smaller. It helps a bit, and I'm sure I'll get to use this!
Since the sewing machine is out now, and since my closet vomited a huge pile of fabric out on the floor, I'm sure I'll sew a bit more. Really exciting, how the next model turns out!

Breaking elefant news
There really is another elephant baby on the way in the next few weeks! It just had some small, early contractions when I met her a few weeks ago.....

Aarhus
This Sunday I went to Århus to visit me oldest niece. Today I will go back home again. It is really nice. She moved into a teeny-tiny house (but it IS a house!) with room for guests, and I couldn't wait.
Fint! (For ikke at nævne Asterix! I rya!)
Yesterday we went to The Old City and also saw the 1974 exhibition. So funny! Especially the hippie-commune, but it was also funny to just see all the old things and colors. There were quite a few knitting projects lying around, and some very interesting, old magazines.
There was also this knitted blanket for a child's bed. (Not to mention Asterix! As a rya rug!)
Afterwards we went to a cafe, and we visited Tøndering strik (a yarn store) to see all the models by Isager and Annette Danielsen in their knitted state. I bought two little pattern books.
My vacation is nearing it's end, but it is fine. I'm ready to start work again on Friday!

Til flasken / For the bottle
Today's pattern is to prevent a problem all of us know. Bottles dripping!
That you can actually solve this with a knitted cuff is really smart, don't you think?
It is quickly made, and I'm sure you will have time for making these for Christmas presents as well.....

Zelda-hygge
Last night I had visitors for a barbeque in the back yard. Afterwards, my 13-year old nephew played Legend of Zelda, while his younger brother and I were watching. It was so nice!
We cheered him on, and I knitted.
My youngest nephew will turn 8 soon, and his biggest wish is a BMX bike. He is very worried that I will end up giving him a pile of knitted socks (he is the one with the smallest feet, so it shouldn't be too hard making them!), and it's really funny teasing him, telling him I'll knit something. Actually, his face will look like Link's on this picture every time I tell him.
Well. Yesterday he was a little cold and got a few shawls to cover his legs. And a blanket. Then he said "Moster - can you knit a blanket for me? That I can wear in the morning, if I'm cold? Can I have this?"
Then it was me looking like Link!

Kort / Map
Yesterday I didn't do much. For instance, I DIDN'T go to Jutland. But I took a trip bringing my bike to Hillerød in the evening. It was my fathers birthday, and for the first time in the 11 years since he died, I needed to just go seeing the grave. It was nice in a very weird way!
Afterwards I rode down to see Frederiksborg Castle and the Baroque garden. It is a very pretty place!
It was really nice going there. I went to school in Hillerød, and after I moved away from home, my parents came to live there, and so I spent many, many hours in Hillerød.
Today is pretty calm as well. In the supermarket I found this wall with a world map. At a friends place I saw one of these with needles in all the countries she visited. I wanted one of those too!
There are plenty of places I haven't visited. Yet. A fun way to start me dreaming!
