According to the calendar, this is the last day of summer. And it's going to be a fine day!
I hadn't been to the beach this year, and happened to tell the nurse yesterday. I also told her that I would like to do it this summer, and then she prescribed a sea-bath for me......
So this morning, I got up and biked to Kastrup Søbad. It was a very pretty, foggy morning, although the sky really looks threatening on this picture!
There were people there already. Some celebrated a birthday. Some just dropped their clothes and jumped in the water.
I walked carefully down the stairs. Yikes, it was cold! (And clearly, I'm NOT the winter-bathing type!) But I got in the water and took a little swim. So lovely, actually!
So I got around bathing this year as well! I need to get my swimming started again. It's really nice beginning a Saturday morning by swimming!
And so I'm totally ready to enjoy the weekend!

Hækling i hængekøjen / Crocheting in the hammock
It has been very warm, which was also the case last night, when I placed myself in the hammock using the last sunlight to finish my mat. There was only so much yarn left in the two skeins that apparently lasted a bit longer than the third one.
I just LOVE that hammock! I do hope I will be able to use it a bit now and then in the next weeks. Even if I have to wear long jeans, a coat and a woolen blanket!

Dejlige overraskelser / Nice surprises
While I had my vacation, I had a few surprises.
The first one was to find a yarn shop in Tårnby! It's not screaming out that it's there, but once you're inside, you'll find a really large selection of lovely yarn. I happened to pass by and had a (very) positive surprise, actually. You will need to check out the opening hours, though, before you go, but otherwise, it's worth a visit!
The second surprise was found in Glostrup. I had an extra Kaffe Fassett book in Swedish (the one on the right. The first of his books that I bought, and I actually knit quite some stuff from it!), which I felt very sure that Ellen, who is the owner of Strikkegarnet, would be having.
Turned out that SHE had a book in Swedish that she meant I needed! And she already had the other one.
It was so nice visiting her, and of course I ended up bringing home a little yarn, besides from the now TWO books!
It was a lovely trip.

The little "Hjerteblad" dress is getting close to being a Spice Girl size dress. And you know - it can be very cute when you can see the panties/diaper, buuuuuuut........
There is still some way to go before it's 30 centimeters long from the arm-hole, so I keep knitting!

Jeg havde aldrig troet / I never would have guessed
Suk. Der er vel ingen vej udenom.......
I wrote the other day, how my youngest nephew wants socks with a picture of his dog. And then LOOK at what you can find on Ravelry!
With slightly different colors it could look like sweet Bailey. Apart from the ears, you know.
Sigh. I guess I can't avoid it......

Hjemmelavet tomatsuppe! / Homemade tomato soup!
My tomato plant monster really gave a lot of tomatoes. I used rainwater from my barrel, and I think it's not always that clean..... I figured it would be better if I cooked them instead of eating them raw! (Especially the ones lying on the ground.)
So last night - a lot later than I planned - when I had emptied the bucket of paint, I made homemade tomato soup for the first time in my life.
It turned out surprisingly good!
I used this recipe. Or something like it. I had almost 1.5 kilo of tomatoes, and there was a lot of stuff I did differently. So I guess I can post a modified recipe here? To make me remember it for another time.
I used 1.4 kilo tomatoes in halves or quaters
2 onions
4 cloves of garlic
Truffle-oil (because it was there and feels luxurious!) for roasting onions and garlic
1 glob of redwine-vinegar
1 table spoon of sugar
1 liter of vegetable bouillon
1 nice glob of ketchup
1 pot of fresh basil
2 tea spoons of salt
enough pepper
And after cooking it for about half an hour, I mixed it and poured in a nice glob of whole fat milk.
I ate it with tortellinis.

En anden slags projekt / A different kind of project
My house, you know? I LOVE it! It's so pretty and cozy and mine, and I love being here. I have this nice carport, that I mostly use for drying clothes and for my bike, but it really looked like it seriously needed some paint. Wood tend to do that, you now - even the impregnated kind!
As you can see, the black color was completely gone all the places exposed to sun and wind.
I was very surprised, when the neighbors told me that they couldn't remember it ever got painted during the 20 years they lived there, so I guess it wasn't so strange it needed paint!
I talked to my brother, who had his house for 25 years, to hear how to do it, and to the guy in the paint-shop who reminded me about painting on the inside of the open fence. So I sprayed with the cleaning stuff and brushed it off after a few days. Really a challenge! Quite a few places looked like this, and brushing inside a fence is not so very easy......
My hands look like this, and I'm sore in all kind of strange places. But today, I want to be done! The inside of the shed will not be painted, and the entrance bit neither. It will have to be some other time. But the rest I want to get done, and THEN I need to lie a bit more in my hammock before the vacation is totally over......
(And maybe find some garden gloves before next time!)

The next pair of socks this year has actually been done for at least a week. These are for my nephew in the US who will be 20 very soon.
He has got terribly long feet, and I actually did think that I made the socks big enough. (They surely looked very long on little D! All the way up to her thigh.....) But then I tried them on, and they weren't quite as too biggish for me as they should be.
Suk.
So that's why I spend a boooooring morning on taking out the toe and knit the socks 10 rows longer. Fortunately, this is the kind of thing you are grateful for doing afterwards, because while you do it? Sigh.
Afterwards, the were the perfect too big size for me. Pretty smart, actually, knowing how too big socks need to be to be the right size.
The pattern is called "Madder Ribber", but I changed it a bit, since I didn't want to make an ordinary rib at the top. Instead, I modified the pattern. The heel and toe was made as I usually do. It works fine, you know!
But otherwise, it was fun knitting ribbed socks with a pattern that was a bit different. The yarn is from Lana Grossa, "Meilenweit", and it was bought in Flensburg. The socks weigh 85 grams, and I used my standard 2.5 mm needles.
So NOW I really need to speculate how to do the socks for his little brother, who wants socks with a picture of his dog.......

Mere nyt / More new stuff
I also started a little dress during my vacation. Little D's mother was CERTAIN the child found my yarn and talked about a dress and a vest. I am not that sure, but since it is almost 1 year ago since she had something knitted last time, I guess it's about time.....
So I started a "Hjerteblad" dress for her. I'm sure it's done soon......

There is a new project coming up - and this time, it's CROCHET! I wrote earlier on, that I would like to make a small blanket for my kitchen, and when I went to the supermarket, I accidentally found some big cakes of "rainbow" yarn, made of 4 thin threads that changes color separately, to make the color-changes more smooth.
They had 3 cakes, and they were cheap (AND pure cotton), so I bought them right away. And now I'm crocheting from all 3 cakes together for a small, striped blanket. The 3 threads has their color changes a bit differently, so it turns out really nice.
This is my last week of vacation, and I really went down into relax-mode! I love seeing the sun again, and I discovered that it works quite well to crochet in the hammock. It's SO wonderful.....
I do everything I can to keep the spirit and crochet until the next color-change and then another row and another row and so on. I would rather not halt this until it's done! It's quite exciting how long it will be.

Blod er vigtigt / Blood is important
De røde blodlegemer finder du her.
Blood contains a lot of important stuff. So much that we really need to survive!
A lot of these things is not so important that you can't survive for a while. But the red blood cells are hard to be without. Without them, there will be no oxygen for your body or your brain.
So now you can knit according to your blood type. Or something. Maybe knit blue blood? The red blood cells can be found here.

So now you can knit according to your blood type. Or something. Maybe knit blue blood? The red blood cells can be found here.

Virkelig nemt / Really easy
I dragged my little guest down into the basement to look at fabric while she was here. I figured it could be fun to sew a little skirt for her. It's so easy and fast, that even a 5 year old should have enough patience to look at it!
This really is the most simple concept. A square of fabric that's about 5-8 cm longer than what it should be in the end, and really wide. I sewed the edges, joined the sides to make a tube, and sewed the hem. (Freestyle. Very obvious when it's lying still!) Last, I made a casing for the elastic band and put it inside. It needed a seam in the center, since it curled up all the time.
And seriously - it only took like 30 minutes!
It fit, and she liked it. Immediately, she had all kinds of plans of what more I should make in My Little Pony fabric, and let me say this much; those other projects were not things to sew in just half and hour.......
Afterwards, she needed to go home, but we had some very nice days (and I really enjoyed my peaceful home alone afterwards!).

August
Absolut værd at læse.
The August book has already been read. I started in July, reading slowly. Then my vacation started (again), and things really sped up!
I got it from my sister, and it's about adopting girls from China. Shown through one particular, poor family, who gets a lot of money during the economic growth, but unfortunately too late to get the girl back who was adopted.
The ending is the best!
But apart from the ending - it's a really great book. I'm afraid it hasn't been translated to Danish yet.
It shows the adoptions from an interesting angle. I do think it's useful if we have all our ideas on this subject shaken now and then. Absolutely worth a read.

Mini-ferie / Mini-vacation
Bare to overnatninger, hvilket vist er rigeligt.
The biggest one of all the small ones - she's more than 5 years now! - is on a small vacation at my place. Just 2 nights, which I guess is more than enough.
We are having a good time! She got to try the yarn-winder, and was really into it. It's fun, how kids like that!
To make us go outside, we went to the pet shop which is located nearby. We had SUCH a nice time!
Apart from looking at all the animals, we also found a toy for the last kitten to leave home (it went to live with my niece, so it didn't go far away!). We spend quite some time there, and talked to the (not too happy) parrot, who just had it's claws cut. NOT that it had willingly agreed!
Afterwards, we went to the paint shop (I bought expensive paint there yesterday, and wanted som action for my money!) to look at wallpapers. We had SUCH a nice time!
All these pretty wallpapers you can buy! I suddenly felt like putting up some here and there.....
Oh well - and she got to look for yarn for her up-coming cousin. We had a deal, that she could pick the yarn and pattern. I only let her look at Wollmeise, and all, ALL the multi-colored ended in the pile.
This baby boy would drown in clothes, if all this should be knit! Well - and I guess I would develop stress and tenosynovitis.
I might as well tell that it WON'T happen. But one of the skeins have been prepared for knitting!
Today, we going to the movies and McDonalds! Since she's only been there TWICE in her life! Also, we'll have pancakes.
I think we will enjoy the day.......

Dagmar vest
The Dagmar vest is done. Turned out so nice! I really like the red and pink stripes, and the very nice contrast stripes.
The neckline was a bit wide in my opinion, so I did a crochet border like on the sleeve edges.
This is how it looks with the crochet neck edge.
I made size 6 years, and little T2 will have it. I hope she likes it!
The pattern was totally hopeless! Actually the worst pattern I ever used. There were 3 sizes. The bag was marked with the small size, but due to the pattern, all sizes used the same amount of yarn. But the kit didn't include that much yarn!
No stitch numbers were right, and the pattern didn't show either measurements or gauge. Fortunately, I found measurements in another pattern.
The pattern at the bottom was also described wrong.
In general, it was just a pattern that was really sloppy, like no-one ever read through it. But the kit was so expensive! I guess it's just like money paid for my education, and leave the kits alone next time.
Well. I used size 3 mm needles and the vest weighs 90 grams. I just need to write down how I did the increases, since I really like the neck-line I ended up with.
The pattern itself? It will go with my friend for class to show a really bad pattern.

The weather forecast says rain, rain and rain. From today. So yesterday - the sunshine-day AND the first day of my vacation, I ran my bike to Amager Fælled to find blackberries.
I actually never found those blackberries (will have to be some other time!), but I found sea buckthorn and agreed with myself, that these would also be worth taking home. (They are crazy sour! There has to be SO much vitamin C in these!)
I also found lovely, red mirabelles, that were easier and faster to pick up, and I thought that the sour buckthorns and the crazy sweet mirabelles probably would work well together.
And here is the result of berries and QUITE a lot of sugar. Lovely marmelade! It does taste great and is just a bit sour, which is great.
So now I just have to eat quite a lot, or give away some, I guess. I will never eat all these 5 jars up by myself!

I just bought new earrings. That looks like peas. Exactly. Little green, bumpy lumps, which inspired me to today's pattern.
If you need a really quick project, then make a pair of peas. I do think they may be usable as earrings.....

My sister's oldest son did not get a new sweater last year. So this winter, it's his turn. He very nicely sat looking through all my books last time we met, and then he decided on a combination of these two patterns.
The mosaic pattern at the bottom, and the pattern from the men's sweater on top. I do think this can be really nice!
I decided on Arwetta - it's so soft and washable, and there are so many colors to choose from. He picked these two, and I found a good offer at Garnværkstedet.
(It's really wonderful having to pick up a package filled with yarn!)
So now it can wait a bit until I start. I think this will keep me occupied all fall!

Gør-det-selv / Do it yourself
I flere tråde tynd bomuld.
Har I andre erfaringer med hjemmelavede gulvtæpper?
I'm wondering about making a small blanket for my kitchen floor. You know - just for the "hygge"! It would look so much nicer than a large, empty floor!
I went searching in my stash, which has become so much easier, although still a bit confusing, and found these two pieces of fabric-yarn.
There really isn't enough for anything, but it is the beginning of an idea! You could also knit instead of crocheting. Or use many strains of thin cotton.
Have any of you made a blanket yourself?

The Dagmar top, with the totally hopeless pattern, has come so far that I need to start the contrast-stripes.
It turned out that I didn't really have enough yarn for the large size, so I guess it will have a bit more stripes than the pattern says. But it's no use if it's too short!
I still think it's so very pretty, but I guess I should have weighed the yarn before starting, instead of just assuming that there were 50 grams of each. (The pattern said 50 grams for all sizes!)
Just need to get focused and get it done.......

(Ja. Jeg strikkede.)
Last night, I stayed a few hours in Lund after work. Because I was going to "Stadsparken" to see Henrik Widegren perform.
They moved the arrangement to a larger scene, and we were lucky (or something) and sat down all the way front, were we were sitting rather uncomfortably up the hill, but with a great view!
(Yeah. I knit.)
The evening was about the sick history of health care. Both educating and fun, if you ask me! We heard about Ignaz Semmelweis, who discovered bacteria (he just didn't know) and found out that it's a great idea for doctors to wash their hands.
I guess he would never have imagined that he would become the main character in a doctor/nurse drama!
Everything was spiced up with songs. I would really like to some time see him singing in the operating theater, when we have a common patient. If he did, I guess it would look almost like this.
Most songs were really funny (and if you by any chance know any Swedish, please find him and listen!), but he also sang about Paolo Macchiarini - the totally crazy surgeon who mesmerized Karolinska in Stockholm and killed quite a few patients, not too many years ago.
Of all my colleagues in Lund, he is the funniest one. Oh well - and then he is actually a really great doctor!
(Yeah. I knit.)

En dag derhjemme / A day at home
This is a bit old news, but here it is. This Saturday was one of those lovely days at home alone, when you get to do a lot of stuff you don't have time for otherwise. Do you know those days?
My house was build in 1958 and really very solid. So I borrowed a power drill, and this Saturday I got it used. My lovely knife magnet came up on the wall!
I hung up a lamp. So lovely! It's nice having good light.
It was also the day when I delivered my bike for repair. Poor bike - one day, when I came back to the station, it was just gone! I found it down on a pedestrian path, and I do think it had been thrown down there. It was really kind of twisted!
After all, I was really happy that 1) I found it! My pretty, pink Anton Berg bike! 2) I have an extra bike (and now even an extra lock!) and 3) it's "just" a bike. Not a car. It really is cheaper after all, you know.
I also got around cutting the hedge and cutting the grass and cleaning. Maybe it's not that weird that I felt really sore at work this Sunday.
It also turned out to be the day when I checked if my watch was waterproof. Which it IS! And by now, it's also rather clean........
