Can you imagine - I've come so far with this year's production of socks that I actually made enough pairs of socks to fill an advent calendar!
One of those calendars where you some days might be lucky enough to find a pair of socks you could actually use......
My second nephew from the top, who has always been wonderful since he was running around with his blond curls when he was 2, turns 28 years tomorrow. He is still just amazing, although the curls are long gone.
I thought he needed Wollmeise socks this year, so that was my starting point.
I wanted to do something with mosaic knitting, and a few weeks ago, I stumbled across this "Spearhead" pattern that I had in a book. So that's what I chose. I changed the last rows a little bit, but otherwise followed the pattern and did the rest of the sock in stocking stitch. So it was actually quite fast.
They weigh 110 grams, and I do hope he likes them.

I think I'll get to knit a lot of socks this year!
The extra pair I made while in the US, not only had my nephew wanting to pick yarn for extra socks for him, but also got his older sister quite upset that she didn't get the pair I made while there.
There are also some birthdays coming up.
So right now, I'm working on 2 pairs - 1 for my youngest nephew, 1 for his cousin who has his birthday very soon, and then there is som black yarn with glitter waiting.
I have no idea how many socks it will be in the end.....

This Thursday, it's Halloween.
You can think what you want about importing other countries traditions to let someone make money. I really like our own All Saints Day, although I really had fun with all the Halloween preparations when I've seen it in the US.
Well. Today's pattern. It's getting cold, so why not be practical and fun by knitting this hat?

Mus på arbejdet / Mice at work
I was working yesterday. And tonight. Fortunately, I got to sleep a lot, now when the night became an hour longer when changing to winter time!
In the department, in the nurse's room, there are a couple of tiny, knit mice. They are so adorable, although they look a bit dangerous with their black ears, nose and tail! I don't know what pattern they used, but the mice are 36 stitches around the stomach, and the increases and decreases are in 6 places. The tail is an i-cord and the nose is black, since the very last round was knit in black and then the thread was drawn through the stitches.
They really are cute!

Overraskelse i Stockholm / Surprise in Stockholm
This Thursday, I was in Stockholm for a meeting. That ended earlier than expected. So I had a really nice walk to the station and found a yarn shop that I haven't seen before.
It's located quite close to the main station and is called Klara Tyg och Garn.
Really nice shop with a few home made designs and really nice yarn.
Yes, I happened to buy a little bit. So pretty! If you are ever in Stockholm, then take a look.

Endnu en babyvest / Another babyvest
I made another babyvest using this beautiful pattern.
This time, I used thinner yarn and needles and made the small sleeves, so hopefully, it will fit a 6 months old baby like I thought.
I found the yarn in my stash, and it's really soft with angora. The color is a beautiful guacamole green, and I really do like it.
I used size 3.25 mm needles, and the vest weighs 55 grams.

Fine farver / Pretty colors
When at Fanø, I bought some very pretty, hand-dyed, soft yarn from Susse.
I wanted to make a tiny sweater, and since it's so colorful, I wanted a simple pattern and chose a "Rajas Raglan".
I started size 2 years, but using 3.5 mm needles instead of 4 mm, so the big question is whether it will fit little I. If not, she luckily has a baby sister.......

Kunst og strik / Art and knitting
On Friday, everybody were at work and in school, and I needed to decide what to do. My sister suggested that I went to Doylestown centre to take a look, and maybe even visited a museum? I had been to plenty of large shops and bought Christmas presents and such, so I thought that was a great idea.
I visited Michener Art Museum, which is located in an old prison, and right across the street from this rather unusual building - a castle in concrete, which is actually also a museum.
The art museum is really nice, and in the first room, I met this rather insisting painting. It actually beats my own small picture of an angry, staring chicken.
To be honest, I'm not sure I would dare having this painting on my wall at home.......
Tænk, at farve et strømpegarnstæppe sådan her!
In the next room, it was totally different. I will not dare saying which style this is, but from this painting onward, I ONLY thought of knitting.
Can you imagine dyeing a sock yarn blanket like this? I'm quite sure the resulting socks would be over the top amazing.
Or how about this one as a sock yarn blanket? It really wouldn't be bad doing a pattern with squares like this, and then having totally different colors in a small square!
Denne her "dør" kunne man skam også godt strikke.
This "door" could also be knit. I just love the colors, but I guess it shouldn't be like socks. Maybe more like a sweater.
Outside, they had this stone wall. It could ALSO look great if knit! All kinds of gray, beige and brown "stones" bound together by the light mortar.
Well. No matter how much fun it is having ideas like that, I'm continuing on the stuff I'm working on. It will not finish by itself! I just need to save these images in my mind so I can remember it when I'll be dyeing something again.

Tid til kage / Time for cakes
Og iøvrigt dulme abstinenserne med "The Great British Bake Off" på Netflix.
It is fall and on tv, the new season of the baking contest is on. I love it!
It was quite a challenge in the US, where I was unable to watch Danish tv, but then I was looking forward to going home. And I treated my withdrawal symptoms by watching "The Great British Bake Off" on Netflix.
I would never spend that many hours on making a perfect cake. But you could knit one! This weeks pattern is for a cupcake baby hat. (It's in Norwegian)

The vacation is almost over. It was a really nice vacation! I have loved spending time with the Frikke's, and although there has been work and school, still we spent a lot of time together.
It was the week when my youngest nephew got beaten by his mother in table football.
Bailey got his share of liver paté, although he definitely thought he had too little. This time, the liver paté lasted about 4 days before it was gone, but we did do our best, eating warm liver paté as often as possible! The rye bread is not gone yet, but fortunately, it can be eaten with other stuff as well.
Doylestown is definitely build for cars. Thanks to Google Maps on my phone, I discovered that there are actually busses. The only problem was, that you had to walk almost 2 km in order to get to the buss. AND that pavements are not the top priority thing in Doylestown.
AND to get the last bit to the bus stop, you needed to go down to a supermarket and the parking lot by following a road were - drum-roll - pedestrians were not allowed.
I am SO not impressed......
But I got there and back, safe and sound. The photo, by the way, shows a place with a little brook. The pavement (obviously) ended, so you need to walk by the side of the road in order to cross.
Sover.
It was the week when we walked the nephew to the school bus (his sister drives herself and starts very early) and afterwards took a lovely walk with the dog. The very dog who seemed quite happy with me being at home for a few hours, so that he wasn't alone when sleeping.
Because that is what dogs do! Sleep.
On Friday night, we went out for dinner - everybody except the oldest one who is in college in Ann Arbor. Everyone is looking forward to my brother-in-law getting a job in Doylestown so that he can move over there as well full-time.
I loved seeing the new town and the new house, and most of all being with them.
I'm already looking forward to next time......

Garnbutikker / Yarn shops
Endda helt nye butikker for mig!
I also went to yarn shops this week. Actually, totally new shops to me! And more than one......
When my sister and I went to Philadelphia this Monday, my youngest nephew came along. We had SUCH a nice time. (He actually almost sounded like he would be disappointed if he wasn't forced to look at yarn!)
I was going to get the last of my birthday present, and my sister found "Yarnphoria" on 1020 Pine Street.
The shop is so nice! There were beautiful crochet and knit stuff, for instance this plate with wine and cheese, displayed in the shop. It looked amazing and quite real.
I got to pick really lovely yarn that goes with something I have at home, and I actually got a bit extra, since my nephew wanted to pick yarn for socks.
Apart from the more standard brands of yarn, there was quite a lot of Turkish yarn in the shop. My knowledge on Turkish yarn is limited to people buying cheap yarn on the internet. (Often with varying degrees of acrylics in it) But this yarn was hand-dyed and really, really pretty! Unfortunately, I can't remember the name.
Yesterday, I even visited the yarn shop in Doylestown. It looks tiny from the outside, but I shouldn't be fooled by that! It is a few rooms deep and has plenty of beautiful yarn. I found the skein of sock yarn I needed to go with my nephew's yarn from Philadelphia, and I got to look on Noro yarn and other nice stuff.
It will be nice to come back there some time when I pass by again......

It is so weird, but suddenly I felt like knitting a pair of socks without anyone celebrating their birthday. I had a skein of Opal in my suitcase, and then I found this pattern and got started.
The most weird thing is actually that I KNIT A DIFFERENT HEEL THAN WHAT I USUALLY DO!!!!!! It was actually kind of fun, although I still think that the "normal" heel sits better on the foot.
They look really strange as they lie there, but once there are feet inside, they look very nice.
Bailey got to play the model (and had the socks taken off really fast afterwards. They are far too slippery for a dog.....)
My niece instantly claimed the socks as hers. She believed she could get socks that were not for birthdays! But when I discovered, that she had taken over her brother's dog socks that he couldn't get on his feet, I changed my mind. A total of 3 pairs of socks in a year is a bit too much in my opinion, so instead, my sister got them. I guess her daughter can borrow them now and then.
The socks weigh 80 grams, which is kind of good. The problem is that I now bought yarn for her brother for extra socks, so I guess I'll just have to start again......

Inderst inde
Before I left home, actually on Friday night, when I was supposed to pack, I sewed in the ends and crocheted the edge on this very nice little undershirt.
I made it in a bit less than 1 week (it was fast, since I had an extra long day with train rides and a meeting), and I wanted to get it done before I left.
The pattern is this one. Always so pretty and classy, and surprisingly easy to knit.
I knit in the round instead of back and forth, which I think is a lot faster. The only problem was, when I had NOT read that the first row was on the back, so I had to flip it over when I came as far as the lace pattern. But using a wrap-and-turn went well. (And while writing this, I realise that I might as well just have moved the stitch marker 2 stitches! Just sigh.....)
I did the crochet border in the armholes as well as the neck. Just because it looks so nice.
It's made in Arwetta for little D (who turns 2 tomorrow. She isn't a baby anymore!) and it took 70 grams on needles size 3 mm.

Longwood Gardens
On Sunday, we went to Longwood Gardens, a very big, really beautiful botanical garden about a bit more than an hour away by car. It was really impressive!
We got to see the big fountain show, which was very impressive. This photo is just an instant, and the water is not even at it's highest, but you can compare the water to the people standing in front of it and see, how far up it goes! The performance showed the water kind of dancing to music. At least that is what it looked like, swaying from side to side.
The greenhouses were really big and held, among other things, some orchids that I've never seen before. There were also flower plants that had been groomed to make the flowers sit like this.
I needed to bury my nose deep in it to check that it was really a plant!
Outside, there were little ponds with water lilies. Oh, how big and beautiful they were! There were so many kinds of flowers, and I felt like having some at home!
We even climbed the bird watcher tree to look down.
We didn't see everything, but the family got yearly passes, and so they can get to enjoy it to the fullest. I'm sure it's beautiful when they do the different decorations for the holidays this winter!

Tid til græskar / Pumpkin time
It's become time for pumpkins and Halloween decorations.
So today, you'll get a crochet pumpkin. But not just any pumpkin.
Oh no - it's Cinderella's pumpkin equipage!
The pattern is actually in Japanese this time, so this is something out of the ordinary.
Have fun!

Ferien er i gang! / My vacation has started!
It is SO easy just flying to New York and then not having to change flight! I could actually even buy a bottle of good gin for the Frikke Circus this time!
It does feel a bit strange that they moved to a totally different place, but the new house is really pretty and big and located right beside beautiful nature, so I do think I'll survive.....
Even Bailey seems to recognize me! He got even more excited when he smelled the liver pate, although it was really well wrapped.
So now I started a week with my absolute favorite humans, where we are going to hang out and talk and go for walks and eat cake and check out the town and over all just relax. It will be great!
