(Okay.
My youngest nephew will turn 13 soon (and become a teenager!) and of course he is going to get socks. He grows like weed, and his feet are ever so long. He loves to pull up his stockings, so of course he will get the long ones like last year. (Well. Maybe a bit shorter!)
I did dye 2 "blankets", but only used one of them, so I guess he'll have the other one this year.
Maybe a bit boring, but the socks turned out really beautiful! He will even get green stripes on the leg this year, to make the yarn go longer, and help him recognize the new socks.
So I do know what to do during today's meetings!

The next pair of socks this year - for my oldest niece - are done, and THOSE were fun to knit! I started out wanting to use Wollmeise, since I only have the girlish colors left. The red skein looked good, and then I started hunting down a pattern in my latest sock book and stumbled across "Textured Lace Socks". Since it's both pretty and not too complicated!
In the line for the catacombs, I learned the pattern by heart, and from there, it went really fast. It was easy to take just one more repeat, which was only 12 rows.
Tror, hun bliver glad.
They actually took a bit less than a week to make, which I'm very happy with. The pattern is beautiful, and to be honest, I would like socks like that for me!
They weigh 135 grams, I used 2.5 mm needles, and these socks need to land around Aarhus during a few weeks. I do think she will be happy.

Pludselig var der en vest / Suddenly, it was a vest
F.eks. i København. (Uha!)
Jeg synes den bliver så utroligt fin!
A lot of bubbles later, I've come so far with the sailor-bubbles that it just needs sleeves. I hoped to find buttons in Paris, but that didn't happen. I guess I need to take a deep look in my box of buttons, and if that doesn't help, I will have to buy. For instance here in Copenhagen. (Really!)
I do think it looks so pretty!

Eclair
One of my favorite French cakes is eclair. Wonderfully light and yummy, with lovely chocolate or coffee cream.
The good thing about French cakes is, that they are so petit and pretty. And you eat them with a good conscience.
Your conscience will be spot-free with this crochet version! It's guaranteed calorie-free.

Katakomberne / The catacombs
I would really love to see the Paris catacombs, although I didn't really read about them.
So yesterday, we went there and saw quite a line.
I guess we were a bit optimistic and thought that it really couldn't take that long.
Within the first hour, all of us were working on a project, but afterwards, we got more tired. After 2 hours, we were REALLY tired, although we had pizza (yes, in the line), and after almost 3 hours, we could hardly believe that we were next in line!
Meanwhile, though, I learned the current sock pattern by heart. Which was really good.
We went very, very deep under ground, and then we walked in these semi-dark, narrow passages, and started wondering if we ever got to see all the skeletons.
The catacombs were made when a lot of graveyards were moved, and the bones are nicely organized.
Men SÅ kom vi til knoglerne! VILDT mange knogler!
But THEN we got as far as the bones! Lots and lots of bones!
It looked a bit unstable, all these thighbones in a heap with old sculls, and I started wondering whether it would be possible to be buried under bones.......
It was a bit creepy, to be honest.
How often do you have the possibility of a selfie like this?
Man KAN bruge 3 timer bedre.
I haven't ever seen a sign like this before. On the other hand - when would it ever be okay to grab someones skull?
After walking around in the darkness, we went up in a completely different place.
It was interesting to visit the catacombs, but if you get the chance, and you're smarter than us, then buy the tickets online and spend 3 hours having more fun than standing in a line.

20000 skridt/steps
These past days, we used our metro-card, which means we walked a LOT! The stations are huge and confusing, so a lot of the steps were taken under ground.
Yesterday, we went to Notre Dame. A lot of people were waiting, but the line was a fast one.
Inside, there was a wedding, and we happened to be next to it! It was really cool to see. The bride was black and the husband was wide, and it was obvious which guests belonged to which family.
They had a very good choir as well, and I'm sure most turists in the church enjoyed having a wedding as part of their memories!
Of the brides family, many were dressed in the beautiful African fabrics which I LOVE! I have some fabric at home, and although I'm afraid that it primarily will make me hard to loose, rather than pretty. (But I'll still sew from it! For me!)
After a nice lunch, we bought tickets for a "Dinner-cruise" on the Seine. And in the evening, there we were. We had a delicious 3 courses menu and a boat trip where everyone did their best to make us spend more money.
It was SO nice! If you go to Paris, you should try it.
We went all the way to the Eiffel tower and the little statue of liberty standing on a small island.
Afterwards, we ended the day by going to the Eiffel Tower to see it lit, and can you imagine - we saw a proposal! I don't think I ever saw one in real life before. (I guess she said yes. They wouldn't let go of each other!)
It is not very often a day starts with a wedding and ends with a proposal!

Yesterday, we went to Arc de Triomphe on Champs-Élysée. It is very impressive to look at, but we also looked forward to seeing the very large roundabout around it, with it's cars rushing around in several layers, without any marked lanes, but still they find their way out!
It was very easy going there with the metro.
First, we walked all around it in the centre, and saw - among other things - "Grave of the Unknown Soldier", which has an eternal flame. Well. It is re-lit every evening......
We agreed it would be fun to go to the top. And so it was! The view was amazing, but WOW, there were a lot of steps going up! After the staircase ended, it almost felt difficult walking straight ahead....
Vi sad også og strikkede lidt. Bare fordi.
We sat there knitting a bit. Just because. I started a sock for my oldest niece.
It was kind of warm in the sun, so we didn't stay long in that spot.
Herlig butik!
Afterwards, we went to La Droguerie, which is described as a quilting shop. Fortunately, they hold more yarn than fabric, and I think of it as a yarn shop!
They had all the delicious yarn just hanging there, just like last time I visited.
Lovely shop!
We ended up by buying rose-ice cream on the way back.
I don't know why, but they TASTE better, when the ice cream is a flower!

Montmartre
Our Sewing circle (which is mostly about knitting) has gone on a tour! To Paris!
We got up in the middle of the night to catch the early morning flight. Some might call it early in the morning, but 3.30 a.m. FEELS like the night!
Because of that, we had an entire day in Paris yesterday, and went for a walk to Montmartre from our apartment.
On the way there, we were on a bridge crossing a graveyard which looked very different from the Danish ones. Small, very old grave"chapels" or large sarcophagi. It is the Montmartre graveyard.
Many famous persons were buried there, but also a lot of people we didn't know. It was interesting to see!
Afterwards, we walked on. Uphill. We got closer to other tourists and a variety of mills.
Just 2 kilometers can feel quite long, actually!
Fortunately, we found an ice cream shop before we totally melted. The weather is very nice and warm right now.
Man bliver lidt træt i fødderne.
On the very top of the hill, we went to the Sacre Coeur cathedral. It is so beautiful! Not only on the inside, but even outside, with the view of all of Paris.
Afterwards, we took the metro back home and all agreed that the idea of a metro-card sounds good!
Our feet were so tired.
We also visited a yarn shop and found another which had closed due to vacation. We need to find some more today!

Woolstock
I have another week of vacation this week, and I'm ENJOYING it! These first days I've spent at home, and I LOVE IT! This weekend was pure ego-joy.
Yesterday, I went to Rigshospitalet to talk about an article we're to make. Which will have one of my favorite figures. (No, I'm not sick. No, I'm not going to work there again.)
Afterwards, I went on to Østerbro to check out the new café, Woolstock, which is located in Præstøgade 2A.
It is so cozy! It's a real café with (homemade) cakes, coffee and some sweets.
There are plenty of tables and chairs, both in and out. Lovely and inviting.
But it also has YARN!
For instance, this pretty decoration above the disk containing yarn. There are bookshelves with yarn, and nice kits to buy and knit from.
The café/shop is 10 weeks old by now, and has been a long time in the making, as the owner told me. She has collected old furniture from various places, and dreamed for years about making this café.
It is so pretty everywhere. Just look at this beautiful showcase with yarn!
Of course, the sign for the restroom was knit. And so was the "Open" sign.
There is a kid's corner with crochet/knit play food, and for the adults, there are magazines to look through.
Even the china had the name of the café!
Everything is so well thought through, and if you get the chance, please visit.
Shouldn't we make a deal to make Woolstock one of those cafés that will do really well? A totally unique concept.

Fisk / Fish
Opskriften er her.
I like fish. A lot of people don't, but everybody is different.
These fish are something I suspect everyone can like! They have been eaten, for sure.
The pattern is here.

Kogle
For ca. 7 uger siden (Ja. Tiden flyver!) fandt min niece noget helt utroligt lækkert garn i Spun i Ann Arbor.
About 7 weeks ago (Yeah. Time flies!), my niece found this incredibly nice yarn in Spun, Ann Arbor. We also found a pattern, and last night, I cast on for her sweater. The pattern is called Kogle, and the yarn is called Får, although both yarn and designer are full-blown American. But there is a Danish grandmother somewhere in the family, I've read. The yarn is so crazy soft that I actually just feel like squeezing it. But doing that won't knit up a sweater.......

125 gram garn, pind 2,5, 72 masker. Totalt standard, og virkelig dejlige.
Det næste par strømper skal vist have mønster......
The "ordinary" socks for my nephew are done. Made from lovely wollmeise (actually the last skein in a not too shiny color, which men seems to prefer). They got a few stripes, since I couldn't cope with knitting what seemed like 2 kilometers of brown.
They are flying off to Michigan today, and then I hope they will be in time for his birthday August 31th!
125 grams of yarn, needles size 2.5 mm, 72 stitches. Very standard, and really nice.
The next pair of socks will get some kind of pattern.......

The entire week, I've been hearing about "Malmöfestivalen" (the Malmö festival), how nice it is, and how I REALLY should pass by one day on my way home from work.
So yesterday was the day. Especially since it wasn't supposed to rain. Today, it should be rain.
The festival started very close to the central station with a small fairground.
I walked up the street, and on the bridge, there was this nice, big sign.
But on the other side of the bridge? There was nothing. I did find it a bit tame to just go home without buying dinner, so I decided to walk back to the central station to see more stuff.
It was a beautiful evening with sun and blue sky! Plenty of people were out, and it really WAS very, very nice and cozy!
I walked back to the food tents.
I was really hungry, so when I got the chance, I hurried to buy 2 Mochi ice creams. I'm not quite sure where they come from. I've seen them in the US, and it's ice cream in some kind of rice dough. I just love them, and they were perfect to raise the blood glucose enough to let me decide on the food!
Totalt eksotisk!
In the middle of the Indian, Arab, Hungarian, Thai, Greek, Nordic and Ethiopian food, I found this tent the most exotic.
Well - we hardly ever eat moose in Denmark, and moose prepared in wok? With lingonberry sauce and raw onions? So exotic!
It was so good!
Next year, I'll definitely go again. A bit of Swedish culture in my free time won't hurt, right? (Oh well. "Swedish". It was quite international.)

Strik i toget / Knitting on the train
My nephew turns 19 very soon, and he specifically asked for "ordinary" socks. So I'm knitting plain socks.
So this week, the train-rides are for sock-knitting, and I do guess that if I'm really good, then they will get finished very soon, and I have time to mail them.
Afterwards, I'll be knitting something else........

Viggo 1
The first little Viggo sweater is done! The smallest one of the planned 3, actually.
It is SO pretty! Cute model, nice colors, warm and light.
there were SO many ends to sew. It took surprisingly long, but it is finished now. I even found brown buttons that fit well (actually, I found so many buttons that all sweaters can get identical buttons), and I am very happy with the result.
Men altså.
The seams look so pretty with the raised masks. Overall, it is just a pretty pattern which is quite easy to knit from. I'm not that happy knitting with 2 lace threads. It is so annoying, when you realize you dropped one of the threads a few rows done. Anyway. I need to concentrate!
It weighs 135 grams, and as I wrote, the smallest one. Looking forward to having all 3 done!

Opskriften er her.
The summer vacation is coming to an end. Both in Denmark and Sweden. It is great for talking with the new school-kids - just ask about their school bag.
What color is it? What pictures does it have?
Today's pattern is for a blanket made with pencils. If the poor kids don't get enough school and pencil cases at school, you can start reminding them at home.....
The pattern is right here.

Regn / Rain
Yesterday, I was just at home. I had so many plans with a list of stuff I wanted to do - enough for a few days, I guess!
What I did was shopping. Making lasagna. Take a long walk. Finish up Viggo. Doing the dishes.
Oh well - and then I stood there, looking at the rain. My new little bird got a bid scared, I think. Don't think he saw much rain in his life!
It has been a very unusual summer in Denmark to make a Dane fascinated with looking at rain....
