I wanted to sew during the weekend. And I did! The first big step was to cut up the pretty fabric. I bought everything they had in the store, about 3 yards, and I wasn't sure if I had enough. The pattern is this one. I made it before, and I really do love it.
There wasn't an ocean of fabric, so I had to fold and move and cut one bit at a time. Once I was done, the leftovers looked like this. Not much left!
As I was sitting there, sewing on Saturday, I put on some music. Ended out with "Magic Flute", and only far into the music I realized, that the bird catcher Papageno was perfect in every way.....
Den endte sådan her. Undulater OVERALT!
It ended out like this. Budgerigars EVERYWHERE! I am looking forward to wearing it, although it is a bit hot for it right now.
I cheated with the buttons - it is my third Esme top, and with the first 2, I was very well-behaved, sitting there, sewing buttonholes that were too small, and sewing the buttons on through the buttonholes. This time? I just sewed on the buttons without the buttonholes. I don't think anyone will notice.
Well. It was FUN to sew! I have so much fabric, so I just need to keep the spirit up!

En bi mere / Another bee
Opskriften finder du her.
The bees are disappearing, as you know.
Today's pattern is for a bee, which will not go away easily.
Make a pretty, yellow crochet backpack!
The pattern is found here.

Yesterday, I went for a walk. Well - I was going with my bottles to the shop, and went for detour. Those 10,000 steps don't come by themselves!
Anyway - I went to see the new shop of Tante Grøn Cph, after she moved. It is pretty!
She just got back from Portugal and brought some really, really nice and interesting yarn back to her shop, Mondim. Made with wool from Portuguese sheep breeds and dyed in small lots. It is like sock yarn, but without the superwash and without nylon. I just LOVE stuff like that! The colors are also really pretty and a bit mottled.
Very quickly, I got an idea - bubbles in 2 colors, using the striped as bubbles. Actually, I started already, although I have other stuff I should knit. I'm really excited about how this will turn out!
And then I got to think of all my "crazy" yarn from Michigan. If the little cardigan turns out nice, one might imagine all this becoming bubbles for me? Sometime.......
Going for walks can be dangerous.....
But if you pass Frederiksberg, then pop by Tante Grøn and feel the yarn for yourself!

Weekend
It is Saturday, and I don't have too many plans. I love being at home! I plan to enjoy it and hopefully, I get to sew from my parakeet fabric. I can't wait to wear that top!
I had the photo of little I this morning. Wearing her new dress from the US. Usually, I buy clothes back home for the little ones. It is so nice! I LOVE looking at all the kids clothes, and I never had anyone myself to buy for. The parents look happy, so I'll continue! (Although I was kind of anxious, the first time I needed to buy 5 sets of clothes.)
When at some point there are even more kids, I guess I just have to split it, so that not all kids will have something from every travel. (And if they are not happy with it, I'll stop)

Sommer / Summer
Mens jeg spiser halvgamle Sun Lolly is. For mon ikke næste sommer bliver anderledes?
Summer in Denmark is a bit like playing the lottery. The year I painted my apartment, it was melting hot, but during the last 2-3 years, it hasn't really been extraordinary.
All I remember from last summer is rain and cold. Which probably explains why all my ice pops are kind of a bit old, since I clearly didn't want to eat them in cold weather.
But this year! Oh my. Since I remember the rain and cold, I have just enjoyed the sun and heat this year. That is - until Wednesday evening, when my bedroom turned into a sauna!
In spite of this, I enjoy it. While eating my slightly old Sun Lolly Pops. Because there is every possibility that next summer will be very different from this.

Greenfield village
While I was in Michigan, we spent a day in "Greenfield Village", which is part of the Ford Museum and is a very nice outdoor museum with interesting houses where historical people livet, but with a lot of focus on technique and on Henry Ford's own life.
You could try riding a Ford T. It was so much fun! The cars were made from the original plans. A bit like the Tivoli veteran cars, only with real cars and a driver!
There were also slave huts. I never saw any of those before, and it was really interesting learning a bit about this sad chapter of history. I would love to say history of the US, but Denmark had quite a lot of slave trading, so I'll find some other day to wash my hands.
The thought of someone else owning you is so totally surreal to me. But I know I am a person who really values my personal freedom!
Magic Oil!
We went to a shop. The kind of shop where you can buy EVERYTHING! Tools, shoes, kitchen-stuff, clothes, everything for crafts and so on and so forth.
They also had catalogs for ordering stuff. For instance woolen bathing suits which I didn't take a picture of (unfortunately). I love the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, and in some of the last ones, they bought fabric and other stuff in a shop like that, and then the mother sewed dresses. And then they wore their dresses until they were totally worn out.
They also had an advertisement for the kind of medicine that fixes anything. ANYTHING! At least the name is very promising, right? Magic Oil!
The old school of Henry Ford was also there. Including a kind of tough teacher. She had a lot of great stories to tell, and I really enjoyed it, although I'm sure my niece thought I did ask kind of a LOT and really made them stay there a long time!
On the blackboard, these wise words were written. Advice to get a happy life. I'm quite sure they are still good advice.....

Langsomt / Slowly
I'm not sure what I thought when I bought yarn and planned to knit THREE Viggo-sweaters!
The first one is not growing super-quick, as you can see. But the second sleeve and it's top-part is soon done, and then I guess the body will be quick. Because then I won't have to think....

Tilbage på arbejde / Back to work
A rather annoying adverse effect of early vacation is that you also get to go back to work early.
The vacation is over. Work is calling. Sigh.
Today's pattern is for a crochet face mask. It is mostly to play with, but it does cheer you up, right?

9 år / 9 years
About 9 years ago, my oldest nephew started talking about how he would really love to have a knitted moose head to hang on the wall. About 7 years ago, I made Zelda-blanket instead. But he just kept on talking about his moose head.....
A bit less than 3 years ago, he found out that I bought this book and got so HAPPY. He even said that the stag would make him happy, and that if he got one of those, he wouldn't start asking for something worse.
About 6 months ago I thought, that if he was ever to get that head, his 30 years birthday might be a good occasion.
I al hemmelighed.
So when in the US, I bought heavy, cheap cotton (the meterage was right) and started. In secrecy.
It didn't really take that long, making the different parts, and I crocheted them here and there during my vacation.
Keeping it secret was a bit difficult! I couldn't write anything here, since I feel sure he would know someone who would tell him. But I whispered about it with a few persons and was looking forward to getting it done.
This Friday was spend stitched together the antlers and sewing on the different parts. (Yes, my fingers hurt!) Afterwards, I took it to the garden to take a picture, while trying to look like it was the most natural thing to carry around a crochet stag head........
Og her er han så med sin gave! Han blev MEGET glad!
And here he is with his present! He got VERY happy!
Bare man plager længe nok.....
It was hung on the wall right away, and I have to admit - it looks good on the wall! He sticks to his promise of not starting to wish for even worse stuff, but on the other hand he says that he now showed his siblings and cousins that it is possible to convince me to make something I don't want to make. All they have to do is beg long enough......
I made the head in "Sugar'n Cream", the cheapest supermarket-cotton I could find, and I used 465 grams of yarn. I used crochet hooks size 4.5 and 3 mm.

Min ældste nevø fyldte 30 i tirsdags.
My oldest nephew turned 30 this Tuesday. Today, he is celebrating. Of course, he is getting socks! I do find them quite purple, but I guess it's my eyes that are the problem.....

They are made with self-striping Opal yarn using 2.5 mm needles, and they weigh 85 grams. Quite boring rib pattern, but they fit really well!

Garnfarvning i Jylland / Dyeing yarn in Jylland
When I was packing for Jylland, I wrote my 21 year old niece if we by any chance could meet? We don't get to see each other that often, but fortunately, she already planned to come by.
Then I asked if she felt like dyeing yarn? Fortunately, she said yes!
After the micro-wave, the yarn was cooling outside. It is so exciting once you're ready to open and wash out the extra color, being able to see how it really looks!
I dyed a sock blanket. Plenty of color in that one!
My niece also dyed one and planned on striped socks. Once she learned how to knit them.....
Bliver interessant!
I thought of socks with a green stripe at the top, then a mix of colors, then a green heel (with a bit of luck!), then a mix on the foot and a green toe. Plus some extra green. Will be interesting!

We used the micro-wave to fix the dye, so the dye was applied on a lot of newspapers and vitawrap. She dyed 3 skeins of yarn that was a bit thicker than sock yarn. Unfortunately, I didn't measure anything when mixing the color, so the skeins didn't end up identical. But they turned out pretty!

My nephew and his family moved to Mariager. Another city that I never visited before!
They live quite close to the viking fortress Fyrkat, located right on the other side of Hobro, so yesterday, we went to see it.
I don't think I ever saw one of those real viking fortresses before, and my expectations weren't too high.
But it was really exciting and nice! A small center with different houses and activities from the viking period was what we saw first. They had families who spend their holiday as vikings, and they did different things. For instance, some were sewing and preparing to dye yarn.
You could try real viking clothes! So we caught the kids and while they protested, they were dressed as vikings. (Well. The small one didn't protest. He just ran off!) We turned out to be a really pretty viking family!
Afterwards, we went to where the remains of the fortress were. Harald Bluetooth is supposed to have lived there, and the view was really nice. I understand why he chose this spot!
The fortress itself was huge! They had a model of a long-house, and if you imagine all the houses in there, it must have been a bit crowded. Especially, if you were sitting there, waiting for the enemy to come.....
Apart from Fyrkat, Mariager is a very pretty little town. I'm looking forward to coming back here!

Ny fugl / New bird
My left-over bird had been looked after by my brother for 3 weeks, and most of the time, she had just been sitting and staring at the other bird in the mirror. Once she got home in the window sill, she started talking, but I had no doubt that she really felt very lonely.
So on Sunday, I went to Amagercenteret to buy a buddy. It is kind of strange going home with a bird in the bag!
Female budgerigars are quite territory conscious, so in the beginning, they stayed in separate cages. The old bird was not very interested in the new one, which I took as a good sign. If she had been very mad, she would have stared some more! So they got together rather quickly.
So far, they are getting along fine! I had 2 blue birds for the past 5-6 years, so I like the new green one. It will be fun to see how the new bird behaves and whether it is really a male?
Oh well - and then there is all the fuss about the name. Quite difficult.

There were a lot of jellyfish (and poison ones, too!) when I was camping. Some of the few brave who went swimming in the cold water, got a surprise from the poison jellyfish.
Well. Today's pattern is for a jellyfish. If you met the poison type out there, you might make it in natural colors, and then burn it after you're done. That would teach the stupid poison jellyfish a lesson!

This past week, I've been camping with my church. Close to Haderslev, with a view to Aarø.
Usually, it is such a nice week, and so it was this year as well. In spite of my jetlag during the first few days.
This year, the weather has been incredibly nice, and most days, we didn't see a lot of clouds. It is great being away from home, close to the water and in the company of good friends. The water was incredibly cold, though - I think it's the coldest place in Denmark! - but a few brave souls (winter)bathed every morning.
One of the days, we went by ferry to Aarø and walked around the island, ending at the winery.
I just love the little ferries, although I'm very happy that I don't depend on one of those to leave home and go to work!
At the Aarø harbor, one thing to do was crab-race. Both the winner and the losers ended up back in the water, and then you could only hope for them to stay away from fishing rods........
In the harbor we also saw the usual little boat carrying the Maltese cross. I do think it's the sea rescue service that has this boat, and I still don't get the connection between them and the Maltese cross, which in my mind is connected to packets of yeast...... (No. I don't want to know the right explanation. I do like connecting it to yeast.)
One afternoon was spent in Haderslev, which was nice. We went to yarn shops, and I bought a new pattern booklet. So now I'm back home for a few days. In a few hours, I'll go to expand the family, making my leftover budgerigar feeling less lonely.

The ultimative best book that I bought home from the US, was this. A book about quackery and all the stuff that has been used as alternative therapies since the Middle Age. It actually goes all the way back to Hippocrates.
It is SO much fun!
The book shows illustrations of the different treatments, and rather detailed descriptions. The worst thing is how many treatments are still used. For instance deep enemas which have been used for centuries.....
This little guide for spinning was bought because I thought I need it if I'll ever get started.....
The baby botanicals was bought, because I have the other 2 books by the same author. Those books are great, and I figured it would be just as pretty for little children!
Pompom hæftet havde jeg hørt om. Det er nogle sjove og anderledes opskrifter.
I had heard about the pompom book. It holds some fun and different patterns.
And Agatha Christie? Moving around the audible books, I haven't run into this one. I've got to read it! Preferably not right before flying......
